TipTop Café is a quaint, little Peruvian sandwich shop on MLK. The sandwiches are small and the low prices reflect that. I was hoping to get pollo a la brasa but they don’t offer it. They do, however, have pollo pollada, which is Peruvian fried chicken and other tempting dishes(chicken strawberry salad anyone?). They also run other daily specials, such as Lomo Saltado, so check their Facebook or website to keep up with those. I ordered a Peruvian-style chicken sandwich with fries and chicha morada. The sandwich was almost like a chicken salad sandwich. Different than what I expected but it was flavorful(on the small side though). I really liked the fresh chicha morada, which is a purple corn drink. It was the best I’ve had. It had plenty of spice(cinnamon and cloves?) and bits of apples. Really tasty. The service was very friendly. The owner chatted with me in English and Spanish. Food takes about 10 – 15 minute based on my experience and what I saw from other orders. As I said, the café is small and decorated with Peruvian touches such as colorful table clothes. They also had Peruvian programming on the TV. Nice little place to check out if you’re in the area. I’m sure I’ll be back. I gotta try the emoliente drink. I don’t remember trying this in Peru. And I’ll try out the fried chicken next time.
