You know you’ve found an authentic Peruvian restaurant when the waitress barely speaks any English! The language barrier didn’t hinder our eating experience at all as the food did most of the talking. I especially enjoyed their Chupe Camarones, which is a HUGE bowl of creamy seafood soup that is equally filling as flavorful. If you’re a fan of ceviche, I also highly recommend giving this place a try. They are extremely generous with their portions so if you go as a group, you should order a couple entrees and share so everyone can get a taste of everything! The restaurant is located in a less than glamorous shopping center, but this restaurant certainly a diamond in the rough!

Someone who’s from Peru and eaten in Peru. I have to say I was very satisfied with the quality of food. Big portions and great taste. I recommend the Lomo Saltado but I’m sure every plate will be excellent. If you like seafood, try the Ceviche.

One of the worst experience in my life! The waiters didn’t seems to care for here job. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anybody. The worst service in a Peruvian restaurant. The food wasn’t that good either. The worst part was the wait 30 minutes for appetizers and one hour for main courses.

Horrible service not worth it, the food was bad everything tasted old. I honestly don’t recommend it I came all the way from Miami and it sucks to come to a place like this! They add the tip and the service sucked!

What really impressed me with the chaufa was the texture of the rice. The firm bite of each grain was a sign that they used the right kind of rice: old rice. Fresh rice has too much moisture to make good fried rice so the chef knows their stuff. In addition, the portion was gargantuan, and I had enough left to be dinner at night. There’s also a good amount of well cooked seafood mixed into it. You definitely get your money’s worth. If anything could improve, the rice could have more wok hei. I think the issue is that there’s just too much stuff and sauces in the wok. If there was less rice and less soy sauce, the wok might be able to sear in more flavor. I would be ok with compromising some of the portion size to make it more delicious.

We placed a to go order for 1 ceviche mixto and 2 orders of the platanos maduros. The woman that took my order over the phone was very nice. My issue is the food. The platanos were good but not the best I have ever had. They were also sitting in grease in the to go container. The ceviche was not flavorful. It was very bland and I have just had better in Tampa.

Blahhh! Very disappointed! The waitress did not speak a word of English so we couldn’t really communicate with her. We pointed to pictures and asked no questions. We ordered the shrimp chowder soup. it was good but the shrimp’s tail was in every bite, so we had to dig in the soup and take the tail off of each shrimp then enjoy it. We also ordered a dish that had beef, rice, fries and veggies. The beef was very chewy. .we sent it back and all they did was cut it smaller and sent it back!!! The fries and rice were soaked in soy sauce and the veggies were just onions and half tomatoe! Will I go back? I don’t think so.

Excellent service! A group of us tried this restaurant for a birthday celebration. It’s our first time trying Peruvian food. None of us was disappointed at all with what we ordered! It’s definitely worth the 45 minute drive for us!

The food was amazing. Could not say it simpler than that. The ceviche was perfectly marinated. The lomo saltado was delicious and the chafu de pollo was very good. Would highly recommend it if you are craving Peruvian food or undecided about what to eat. You will not be disappointed.

Having never had Peruvian food before i came in with an open mind & left with a full belly! We came here to celebrate a birthday & received excellent attentive service for our large party of 15VERY hungry patrons. We had no idea what to order so we left it up to the birthday boy to decide. This place totally shocked me! With every dish that came out we were amazed to see how HUGE the portions were! and what the heck was in that white sauce? not sure what it was called but we ordered 3 refills of it! it tasted like a delightful combination of garlic butter & cilantro that blended perfectly with the yukka fries! We also ordered a bottle of their red wine and no lie was one of the sweetest most tastiest bottles of red wine i have ever had! Everything that we had was simply amazing and i will def be returning here for more. HUMONGOUS portions mixed with cheap prices … stop reading already and make a visit to Machu Picchu!

Celebrated my friends bday here. Found the place when I went to the next restaurant and mentioned it to my friend and decided to try it. Sangria was awesome. And their fried rice steak and sea food. Also I found the best red wine that I like gran vino borgona! They have this sauce that make the food so much better. If you love ceviche better visit this place. I’m definitely coming back for more!

1st time here. Found it by chance and glad I did. Very unassuming décor but the food was wonderful! I ordered the Lomo and was not disappointed. The portion was generous and the steak tender and flavorful. The service was very prompt and courteous. I will definitely be going back here again!

Had a peruvian paella, which is rice with shellfish… mussels, shrimp, octupus and calamari. Very good. Great tasting food, fair prices and a lot of food. Had to take doggy bag home. Looking forward to eating here again, when in the area again.

Ah I am expanding, now a Peruvian restaurant. The previous reviews for it certainally gave it justice. It was 7:45 and they close st 8:00PM on Saturdays. It is in an old strip center on Hillborough Ave. on the south side of the street, near Applebees. The exterior and interior are old and certainally nothing special. The owner(s) keep the inside very clean and are pretty lax on their hours. I have been trying to go to this restaurant gor 3 months and it has always been closed. Well tonight was my lucky night, I got there in time to get dinner to go, that’s cool, I’ll take it. I want to taste what all the buzz is about. I had blistec a la Ponte, a huge well seasoned and tender skirt steak, 2 fried eggs, a big batch of french fries, cooked properly, a huge portion of rice and red beans, lots of fried plantains, nice and caramelized and a garnish of lettuce and tomato. Wow thst was a mouthful both figuratively and literally. I am so glad the 2 of us split the 1 meal, we were both full and still had enough to save for a light lunch. The good news is, all of it was great! Well prepared and seasoned and just what our growling Tummies needed. Now thst I know the drill and have a take out menu, I can’t ws it to try their seafood and twice baked potatoes and… the list goes on. What’s a girl to do? Try Columbian, Peruvian, Spanish all nationalities of food, you never know what you will discover!

A Peruvian restaurant located in a strip mall off of Hillsborough Avenue — this would not be the kind of place you would stumble into unless you knew the food was worth it. The outside is nondescript, it has essentially no ambiance on the inside, and the service is always slow. Soccer is usually on the one television over the little bar. Sometimes you can get sangria, sometimes you can’t. The posted hours are not set in stone. Funny story: My boyfriend and I made arrangements to meet here on Valentine’s Day a few years ago at 7 pm, but I got there early, got a table and started reading — and then they locked the front door at 6:45 pm — hah! They still let me order for the two of us, though, and unlocked the door for him to enter when he arrived, but it cracks me up that they just decide to close early, on Valentine’s Day, even though the hours posted say 8 pm. Their Ceviche Mixto entrée(mixed seafood ceviche) is consistently awesome, however, and that is what keeps me coming back. Extremely generous portion of seafood, well marinated in lime juice, topped with onions, served with a piece of yuca, a piece of sweet potato, and two types of Peruvian corn. I always get it lightly spicy, which still has me sweating in the best possible way. I almost always get a Alfajores Peruanos(Peruvian sandwich cookies with a filling of dulce de leche) for dessert, which helps get rid of the Mixto burn. This last visit we started with their fried calamari, which was very good, although perhaps not as authentic as other places. Not only will I be back, but I’ll tempt even more friends to try it!

Machu Picchu is a terrific little Mom ‘n Pop Peruvian-style restaurant located in a shopping plaza just to the east of Dale Mabry along Hillsborough Avenue. The strip mall is best known for having a large fitness club and a Guitar Center store, and Machu Picchu is located in a small store-front around the perimeter. While it might not look like much from the outside, the atmosphere is very warm and inviting as you walk through the front door and take a seat at one of the tables. The servers are very friendly and helpful, and there’s no issue with a language barrier. The menu is influenced by Mayan, Chinese, and Spanish cultures, and so you’ll see a lot of beef, chicken, and seafood dishes. Most everything is served with cilantro rice or fries, and there are a few other options including quinoa, sweet potato, plantains, and beans. This is very much a meat & potatoes society which is fine by me! For dinner I had a small seafood ceviche appetizer which was made with chunks of raw fish and shrimp that had been marinated in lime juice, and that came with sliced red onion and chalpa corn nuts. For my main course I ordered the Lomo Saltado which is the traditional Peruvian stir fry that combines marinated strips of sirloin steak, with onions, tomatoes, yellow aji peppers, and French fries. Both courses were outstanding, and there was a ton of food. I thought that the prices were terrific, and there was plenty of food to take home for a second meal. Definitely a winner in my book!

Why 4 stars? Because they’ve earned a return customer and disciple. — — — I sadly don’t even remember what my exact order was, because the iPhone gremlin got into my phone and deleted my picture. It was some kind of steak with fries, rice, beans and plantains… and it was definitely a party in my mouth. I’ve tried other Peruvian, but this is definitely my favorite in the area. It’s an old building in a strip mall, but Machu Picchu delivers. The lack of the bells and whistles brings the price down, which is fine by me! I will be back soon with a contingent of friends, family and random people. The random people will surely become friends, as it’s the least they could do after I introduce them to this West Tampa gem.
