Had sopapilla for the first time, light, crispy and delicious with honey. Also had very good carne adovada. I don’t care for overly spicy food and this dish had just enough to make it flavorful. The green chili sauce, savory and not overly spiced. We ate in lots of restaurants in our 2 week stay traveling all over New Mexico. Casa de Valdez was recommended by a friend who lives outside of Taos. This restaurant was by far the best food we ate. Highly recommend.

We are locals and this is our«go to» place for excellent Margaritas, smoked meat, steaks, and Mexican food. Our favorites are the rib eye steak, always cooked correctly, the Diablo shrimp, fajitas, and enchiladas. Good service, always clean, and the kitchen knows what it’s doing.

We had a nice meal here, in a relaxed atmosphere. The service was stellar: friendly, low-key, and efficient. We were both growing weary of New Mexican cuisine(two solid weeks of red and green under our belts) and so we chose steaks and shrimp, which were very good. The brisket at an adjacent table looked so good(and the people eating it were making such luxuriant sounds) that I considered grabbing it and running.

delicious food, great service, nice space, 4-hour happy hour! came to Taos for a work trip, this was the best part. I asked for something that wasn’t at all spicy and that part didn’t exactly work out but it was so good I suffered through the spiciness. be careful with your order if that’s a concern.

Best chile relleno I ever had! The chile was battered lightly and grilled, extremely flavorful. They had pit BBQ with brisket and ribs, which are also superb. We had the house marg, it was good but not excellent, the happy hour beer price was really good too. We also had beef tacos, they came with chunks of steaks instead of ground beef, so tender and juicy, highly recommended!

Some of the best places for appeasing your palate are not well known. This is the case with Casa de Valdez. Some friends had invited me to join them for dinner and I enjoyed the most succulent medium rare Ribeye steak I had enjoyed in years… perfectly prepared and tender beyond comparison. There are other establishments that are known for their steaks and I have been very disappointed. The meal included two sides and I chose the stuffed baked potato and Caesar Salad — also perfect. Don’t miss an opportunity to partake of a meal in this establishment.

Nothing but good things to say! We had a great meal tonight. Very friendly and attentive service. I had the Chili Rellenos. They are grilled instead of breaded, VERYGOOD. My husband had a ribeye steak with baked loaded potato, he enjoyed it. Margaritas were good too. We finished with a fantastic Flan, some of the best I have had. The restaurant is classic, very clean. We will be back!

Stopped by here after a long drive from the scenic highway. First thing i saw was the sign outside with hickory smoked bbq. Did not disappoint. Small yet cozy restaurant. Great food at affordable prices.

Good food in not so big portions. Just right. You also have to try their bread pudding, with chocolate, blueberries, and ice cream. The bread for the pudding is very light. My wife loved their chile rellenos.

This is a family owned retaurant. They have the best margaritas in town, made with tequila. The best chiliereleno i have ever had. Made with hatch green chilies. All home made. The service was great great. Its a hidden gem in taos. Reasonable prices. A little off the beaten path, south end of town, just across the street from guadalajara. This is my second visit here and would definitly come back.

Stopped through Taos on vacation, and found this restaurant online(and saw that it had good reviews), so we decided to stop by. The food was excellent! Service was also excellent! This place deserves every good review it gets.

Thumbs up for this great newly remodeled restaurant. We were a party if 3 and all enjoyed our meals. We each ordered something different and had tastes of all. Highly recommend the smoked brisket. Excellent German slaw. The menu is easy but diverse. Slow smoked BBQ cooked meat and chicken, grilled steaks, fish as well as Mexican and local fare. Did not have desert but they sounded great. Well priced and great service. Just eat there you won’t be sorry.

Delicious lunch — babyback ribs, brisket, chile rellenos, local beer on tap… The road is under construction in front so you have to enter the parking lot just north of the restaurant — worth a stop!

This place was great! Small, inexpensive, fab food and a couple of nice small outdoor seating areas. Finally had our first great chile relleno of the trip here(at a third of the cost of the ones we’d had at lunch). Really delicious, cheesy and nice batter and a flavorful sauce to top it off. GF had tacos which she also loved. Ambience helped — acoustic mexican jazz guitar tape, sunset with birds, quiet street. It’s alcohol free, and not BYO. For its type of place, just about perfect. Tempted to give it five stars, it’s a solid four.

The food here is amazing! After closing for a number of years, the original owner and his son have revived this place! This is a family business that shows true pride in their food and service! The red an green chili are some of the best I have ever had! Can’t decide on one, have both! Any New Mexican dish should be served ‘Christmas’ style, it’ll help you answer the essential NM question, red or green! The BBQ is a must as well. The meat is smoked using real Texas wood, providing it with a flavor unmatched in NM. Don’t forget about the sopapillas! My fiancé asks one a week when our next trip to Taos is so she can get her fix!

Just ate a great meal here! I started off with a strawberry margarita, it was a bit sweet but delicious. For dinner, I got a NY Sirloin 8oz steak med rare(cooked perfect and the steak was bigger than 8 oz), a loaded baked potato and Cesar salad(delicious homemade dressing). The menu is a mix of BBQ& Mexican. My waitress was a friendly woman named Ivy. She was very friendly and nice. The décor was nice and restaurant very clean. The only complaint was the sign outside is HORRIBLE — the owners need a new one!

What a nice surprise! Casa de Valdez doesn’t look like much from the exterior but once you’re inside it is charming and impeccably clean. We enjoyed the food very much. The topping on the proverbial cake was the sopapilla’s and honey delivered with our meal. Try this place; you won’t be disappointed.
