Ordered chicken wings. Asked before hand if they were breaded or battered. Waiter said no. They came battered, so they were soggy and fatty and not crispy. I didn’t eat them, but waiter refused to take them off the bill. Mexican food was plain and bland.

I have had many meals at La Cosina and today was a big disappointment. Arriving on a Friday at 12:30PM we were seated at one of the many dirty tables. A young man eventually came and cleared the table and wiped it down. A woman came by dropped off menus and took our drink order. After a little while she came back and took our food order and then brought our tea and water. I ordered beef tacos with rice and beans. The shells were overlooked and the beef was flavorless — no seasoning at all. The beans and rice were also flavorless, the refried beans gummy and dry. The Spanish rice also dry and flavorless. My dining partner ordered a flauta. Normally a fried rolled corn taco — this version was a soggy flour burrito with guacamole and sour cream on top. The chicken inside also was flavorless and dry. The meal was served with sopapillas that arrived in a basket greasy and cold. What a shame that this long time Raton mainstay has fallen so far from its great tradition of good food.

Not the best food and surprising since they are in NM. There are far better places just up the street. I would pass on this one and don’t order the sangria

Fabulous breakfast! Can’t believe there aren’t lines to get in… had a simple breakfast… eggs over medium, hashbrowns and sausage… with a fresh sopapilla. Holy Cow it was good! Eggs were perfect! Hashbrowns nice and crisp and sausage cooked perfectly! The sopapilla was the piece d’ resistance… with butter and honey! The menu choices are extensive! I will be back! Can’t wait to try the huevos rancheros!!!

Unilocal says there is a full bar, but there is not. Didn’t stay to eat because I wanted a margarita.

Don’t go on a Monday. The reason I’m only giving 4 stars although we love the food as it all appears to be homemade; they do reheat their baked potatoes and other items on Mondays as their regular cook is off. Two items on the dinner menu are highly enjoyable: the steak(order medium rare to get medium, though) and the rellenos. The latter are on a mobile discount site 2 for one. What makes them unique is that they make the cheese crisp, which really adds something to this dish. Service can be spotty depending whose working that night — again: don’t go on a Monday.

Meal was wonderful. Service the same. And they even have an American menu which looks quite good. They were also very sensitive to my gluten intolerance. All in all the best Mexican meal I’ve had in New Mexico

Wow, hubby and I were looking for take out since we had been eating out every night we chose La Cocina and were very pleasently surprised. We ordered our food and went to pick it up the place was immaculantly clean and the dining room charming with a fireplace in the middle of the room with the tables all around. We were greeted by some of the family members working there and our food was ready for pick they even explained how it was packed. When we got back to our hotel we opened the packages and we had enough food for 4 people even though we ordered 2 entres, an appetizer and a desert. The food was excellent I had the enchilada and steak and everything was cooked to perfection and the sauces were over the top. My hubby had the pork chops and he said the were absolutely great! We will definitely go back. Some of the best food we have had in Taos.

Neat casual place. Saw mostly locals eating there. As tourists we were treated to great service and friendly waitstaff. The dining area is round with kiva fireplace in the center. Chips are homemade. Chicken Fried Steak was big and tasty. I had the combo plate. Try the chile relleno! Unlike most dishes that serve rice as a side dish, La Cocina serves plains(white hominy) with flavorful seasoning. Some dishes are served with a huge sopapilla — mmmmgoood!

When I visit Taos, my favorite food is the food my friend’s families cook for me. La Cocina is a very close second. New Mexican food has a whole flavor of its own, and this is one of the best places to get it outside of grandma’s kitchen.

I really enjoy the stuffed sopapilla at La Cocina de Taos. Their take on this classic New Mexican dish involves a much heavier sopapilla that resembled Indian Fry Bread. Among the choices of fillings and sauces, I recommend the carne adovada smothered in red chile as the most satisfying combination. La Cocina de Taos and the Rancos Plaza Grill are my two not-to-be-missed dining choices in Taos.
