There is high grade fish and low grade fish. You can buy a whole 120lb Tuna at the fish market for $ 2000 or as high as $ 10,000. And it has nothing to do with freshness. This place serves fresh low grade fish. You get huge pieces of fish(Tuna, yellow tale, albacore, etc) over rice because they are trying to impress you with volume and quantity and not quality. Japanese owned sushi bars balance the right cut amount of higher quality fish with the right amount of rice for the proper taste and experience. Our experience was tasteless, and filling. I ordered a Japanese Ceviche which the chef said he can do. He gave us a plate of huge cuts of Tuna sashimi pieces, drenched in Ponzu sauce and some radish and tomatoes. Far from how Japanese ceviche is prepared. He could have declined and said they don’t offer the dish. At the end they charged us $ 19.00 for this embarrassment. They nickle and dime you for extra ginger and wasabi, which sounds desperate. If you like tasteless pieces of raw fish drenched in sauces and mayo, this is the place for you. It is about the same quality as going to an All You Can Eat sushi bar, except you pay more. However, they had good service.

First time here. Great service. Everyone is super friendly. Sushi was delicious and the rolls are really big. The Niko roll was excellent. The only reason I gave them a 4 star is because they were out of sho shi peppers. The place is a bit small, but it has a cozy vibe. Great spot. I’ll be back

A GEM in the Valley. A GREAT place for sushi. Service and Quality of food is GOOD. Deserves a 5-STAR as an overall. Food prices is slightly on the high side, but the sushi chef gave us a generous amount of fish on our sushi, which melts our hearts the moment we pop it into my mouth. Taste so good, especially the uni and scallop~try it!!! Service is fast and doesn’t take long for our food to be served right after we order.

Many many times including tonight have I been to this place. Fresh fish and definitely a quality sushi place. This is not the fanciest place inside, but the food is top notch. Some great items that I take(and you will like as well as I know my raw fish): Seafood Salad Spicy shrimp roll SCSS hand roll(best hand roll in town) Niko roll(ask for the cuts in small pieces or else it’s hard to place in your mouth, especially for a woman). Look I know my sushi joints. This is one of the best places in town and I don’t mean just the valley(which has some of the best rated places in the USA). Friendly service, plenty of parking of free parking, and easy access. Enjoy this place too, but if I come, you have to give me seniority if seating is limited.

I really wanted to like this place as I am a huge sushi fanatic and always looking for good quality. Let me start by saying that every time I came here they were closed. They close between 2:30−5 I think so I made it my mission to make it at 2. I came here with my girlfriend and felt very rushed. I understand that they close but it didn’t allow me to enjoy the food whatsoever. I ordered garlic edamame, albacore, yellowtail, salmon sushi, and a spicy tuna hand roll. The yellowtail sushi was the only thing that was good. The albacore had way to much ponzu therefore you can not taste the flavor, the salmon was eh, the garlic edamame was flavorless and the spicy tuna hand roll was way to spicy. On top of all this the bill came out to 37 dollars. That’s very pricy! I won’t be coming back here

I was introduced to Niko Sushi by my coworker. We went there for the lunch time special several times. Wow was I surprised. First of all, you can’t go to Niko Sushi without trying the Niko Hand roll! Not only is it extremely DELISH, it’s pretty filling as well. I ordered the Albacore sushi which melts in your mouth. Literally. Everything on the lunch menu ranges from $ 3, $ 4& $ 5. We leave there $ 15 full and happy for lunch. Give it a try if you’re in the neighborhood. You’ll be happy.

I love Niko Sushi. It was recommended to me by my former boss around 7 years ago, and I did not find a better sushi place to the date. Rice is always fresh and tasty, fish comes in generous amount and their Bule Fin Tuna is a total delicatessen.

I’ve been looking for a good local sushi spot for awhile, this place in my new favorites! It’s on the smaller side and gets busy at dinner, so make a reservation. I’ve never had a problem with same day reservations. The staff is friendly and helpful, even my toddler likes the place.(Mostly the tempura though!) The fish is super fresh! I’ve tried and really liked the lobster roll, the specialty roll that has baked scallops, Spanish marcel, Niko roll and the Armenian roll which in not on the menu. It’s all soooo good and not too expensive. I’m thankful for the Unilocal community on this one, I’m not good at trying new sushi places-but this was a hit!

My daughter has been asking for baby octopus. The only place that I know that serves it is Niko Sushi. So we came here again and we got the following: Niko Roll: it has shrimp tempura(2 pieces), spicy tuna, wrapped in soy paper and rice. Fried baby octopus: my daughter’s favorite, it was tender and very flavorful. Masago Sushi with Quail egg: my all time favorite. Yellotail sushi: my husband liked it, it was a decent size of fish. Spicy Scallop hand roll: good amount of scallops. I think the only time we will come here is when my daughter is craving for octopus.

Sushi here is absolutely great! Only 4 star because of service. The food itself was great and liked everything we ordered very much. It is a small and cozy sushi bar. I would go back for sure!

If this place wasn’t so far away… we would be here every week! This spot tends to get busy for dinner so make a reservation if you’re not going to sit at the bar. The pieces of fish on the sushi were Huge and tasted smooth as it should. Definitely get your moneys worth in fish on the sushi(not as much on rolls). Really enjoyed the bluefin tuna, albacore, and their special halibut with sea salt and truffle oil. Also the handrolls can be altered to be «less rice» aka MORE fish :)

Competently prepared sushi, no complaints on the quality side. And the ocean trout was spectacular that evening. However the young man behind the bar has a bit too much attitude for my tastes. He is clearly very self-impressed and self-important but, quite frankly, he’s not THAT good to be sending out such a vibe. It knocked off at least one star from my rating, which otherwise would have been a solid 4 stars in spite of their inflated prices.

I am a sucker for traditional style sushi bars with a touch of SoCal influence thrown in for a good roll now and again. Well Niko is that place and they do have some great quality fish served in a small, intimate setting. Sushi bar to the right and tables to the left you may have a wait during the busy dinner hours. The parking is a bit on the small side but there is plenty of street parking when the lot is full. Reasonably priced for the quality and the service was attentive if not all that accurate. We had to request several items twice and the refill situation was a bit slow but nothing all that objectionable. Some of the highlights. Blue Fin-Spot on goodness Black snapper-Good but not great a tad too gummy for my liking. Live Scallop Dynamite The only real misfire, the leftover bits from the live scallop are served up dynamite style and these were just too rubbery to enjoy. Giant Clam– Crunch-chewy as it should be Shrimp Tempura-Nice light batter, good shrimp Live Scallop — excellent but I prefer yuzu on top. Octopus salad– Tasty, tangy, sweet and slightly spicy All in all a nice sushi dining experience worth a repeat visit.

I am torn between a 3.5 and a 4.0. The food was decent overall. They had good crab sushi. Their lobster roll was very unique tasting. My boyfriend had some shrimp sushi which he said was about average, as well as a shrimp roll. However, I am all about customer service. The waitress we had, some young girl, was horrible with service. She was all over the place, never checked in with us, and just lagged. We had to order drinks several times, because she kept forgetting. She had an attitude when we followed up with her, and seemed super confused the entire night. It was a very frustrating experience. I would try this place again, just because I know sometimes first impressions can be misleading.

I’ve been coming to Niko for about 14 years or so… it’s very reliable and reasonably priced. I went in yesterday(after about a 2 year hiatus) and nothing had changed(except the menu board and some of the décor)… Nik was as friendly as ever, the pieces of fish were as generous as ever, everything as fresh as ever. Niko sushi kind of splits the difference between a higher end sushi bar where you might take a date and a casual neighborhood sushi bar were(sing it with me) everybody knows your name… but is the best of both. I’ve been here 20 or 30 times for lunch, when you want quick service, good fish, without breaking the bank. I’ve also been here 30 or 40 times for dinner when I want no pretension, just a comfortable environment to have dinner and some sake.

Quality here is A++++++. Salmon, kampachi, spicy tuna, yellowtail, Toro, miso soup, live scallop, all to die for. The albacore here is out of this world. You can tell that they pick the higher quality fish from each bite. I would say they are average prices for a sushi place but the Cuts of fish are much larger than other places so you are also getting a better deal. I think it’s better than Kushiyu but without the tapenyaki. The staff is also quite attentive. The sushi chefs are quick and very knowledgable and the owner is always there keeping the quality to the highest standards. A Gem in the valley.

I would assume we all have are«go to» sushi places. That is, if you’re into sushi and Japanese culture. We did, and the time had come to move on down the boulevard and find a new. I think the Goldilocks effect applies when trying to find a new«go to» sushi restaurant. This joint is too busy, that place is too far from home, this place isn’t very fresh, the Sushi Chef wasn’t very nice, I don’t like the vibe in here, and so on. I’ve had all those feelings on our quest. Eating sushi should be a personal experience between the diner and the Sushi Chef. You need the perfect balance of many factors to find your«go to» spot where you feel comfortable. Niko Sushi has that balance for me. The quality of Sashimi matches places such as Sasabune and Sugarfish By Sushi Nozawa. Try the Albacore Sashimi, go ahead. I doubt you will find better. They serve you a generous portion of thick cut fresh Albacore garnished with grated daikon radish and ponzu. Awesome. Niko Sushi also strikes a nice balance between traditional Sushi and more modern Maki rolls, but you won’t find any of those wacky rolls with seventeen ingredients covered in florescent pink mayo here. They do offer rolls like the Rainbow roll, Spider roll, a few custom rolls, and so on. Their Blue Crab roll is the best I’ve had just about anywhere. The service is great. Chef Niko remembers our names when we come in now. He’s the best, as is his support staff.
