Went there a few weeks ago. Amazing food and a wonderful time. Service and atmosphere great for small or large groups. Can’t wait to go back.

Delicious, homemade food with healthy fresh ingredients. My only complaint is that the portions can be quite small, but the lunch specials are still a great value. Great décor!

A friend and I dropped into Sassoon for lunch the other day. I hadn’t been by for ages, but gratifyingly, Sassoon was just the way I left it, tucked in a little mini mall on Ventura Blvd. in Tarzana. It’s still very clean, it’s still got a friendly old school vibe; so with free parking, what’s not to like? Our sweet young waitress was very eager to please, and our food came out promptly. My friend had a small Armenian salad($ 4) and stuffed grape leaves(5 pieces for $ 5). For about 5 minutes he did not talk very much, because he was too busy devouring his well prepared repast. I had the #14(Sassoon’s half chicken $ 10, with rice, salad, pickles, tahini, and 2 large pitas). It hit the spot, and was a large enough portion that I took half of the chicken home. Several times, our waitress came by to refill my iced tea from a lovely small blue china pitcher. This tasteful grace note of gentility somehow symbolizes Sassoon, and for a moment, you forget the steaming heat islands of the Valley(and the slightly sinister men lurking in the parking lot), and you are transported somewhere where the niceties of dining are cherished. On the way out, I saw some lovely looking cookies, so I bought 2($ 1 apiece), which Abbé and I devoured for a late afternoon snack. I love Sassoon, and I’m glad they’ve remained in business so long. The owners are some of the sweetest people I’ve ever met in a restaurant of any kind. Next time you’re in Tarzana and in the mood for cuisine made with love and care, give them a try.

Best Middle Eastern food in the San Fernando Valley. Wonderful service. Authentic food. Nelli and Gary are the best! A must go to for foodies. Try the lentils or shawarma.

Owned by husband and wife team, who are both so sweet! I was in the area collecting menus and didn’t plan on staying but the female owner was so sweet I decided to stay and eat there. Had the lamb shawerma and the lamb tongue sandwiches, both were delicious and fairly-priced. Walls have a lot of kitschy, homey signs and sayings. Bathroom is clean. The armenian/lebanese beer was excellent.

Great food as always. Love coming here for home cooking that I do not have to cook. Try the combination plate #19 you will not be disappointed.

Place is super clean. Service was super nice. Family owned restaurant. Parking lot is okay. I went here around 8pm with my bf after we wrapped from a shoot next door. We had 2 plates, baklava, diet coke, total is around $ 23. I had chicken kebab plate, 2 skewers, comes with salad and pita bread. The rice doesn’t taste like other kebab places have. The food was delicious, the service was amazing, probably best service I’ve ever had in LA.

Found this little hole in the wall on Unilocal.I ordered the chicken and my kids ordered the sherwma. The meat was so tender and the rice was very flavorful. The server was such a sweet young woman. Definitely will go back if I’m in the area. The hummus was wonderful too.

This is a hole in the wall location. The food here is fresh and the business is family owned. They also do catering which for a business this small is amazing. The meat comes out tasty and tender and everything is made fresh. They also sell whole chickens to go and they are a great deal. Most meals are around 10.00. The family that owns it will treat you as if you are a member of the family. I would give it a try but not to often as i want to still be able to get a table.

Great middle eastern cuisine! Not only is food fabulous, the owners are great! Gyros are my favorite, but everything I’ve had is amazing. If also recommend trying their baklava. I’ve eaten middle eastern food all over, but this has been the best/most authentic. Prices are also great!

Just to start I am Armenian and live in Glendale. Yet, I have to come to Sasoon in Tarzana to get the best Armenian food in the Los Angeles area. Also, I am vegan and there are a lot of great food for vegetarians and vegans. My favorite dish is their cracked wheat salad(etch). The hummus and baba ganoush are flavorful and so fresh. As is the zatar bread. The last time I was there I tried the falafel and it was so light and tasty. Lastly, the feeling in the restaurant is warm and inviting thanks to Nelly who welcomes everyone as if you are walking into her home.

This place doesn’t look like much from the outside, but what a find! The owners are always there and are super-friendly, the service is good, and the food is DELICIOUS. I come here often, and it’s the best $ 10 meal I can get!

Awesome little place. Came here with a friend and tried the beef kabob plate and lentil soup. The beef was really tender and juicy. The server brought us hummus and pita bread on the house which was very nice. We took our time to savor the food and ended up staying past the closing time, but they didn’t rush us out. The couple who run the place are very nice and chill. The place isn’t very big and the parking lot doesn’t have a whole lot of space so it might be more difficult to find parking in the daytime. We went pretty late so didn’t have any issues. Will definitely be coming back again to try out different dishes!

A great place for Mediterranean food owned and run by the nicest couple who make every guest feel like family. Nelly will greet you at the door while her husband prepares the food in the kitchen. If you tell her your name, she will never forget it, even if you don’t return for months. The food here is fabulous — truly authentic Mediterranean cuisine. The ingredients are fresh and meals are made to order. The restaurant is small — nothing fancy, but the big draw is the extensive menu and Nelly’s warm hospitality. We don’t live close, but often make the trek because the food is so good. And when we know we’re driving through the valley, we’ll call ahead and Nelly will have our order ready to pick up to take home. Such a wonderful restaurant — no wonder they have such loyal fans!

Among the plethora of Armenian restaurants in Los Angeles, Sasoon is one of my top picks. Being Armenian myself, my family and I come from authentic home cooking and look for that authenticity in Armenian restaurants; Sasoon does not disappoint. Immediately upon walking in you are greeted with what can best be described as a motherly warmth. You can feel the love that goes into the food and restaurant even before you take your first bite. Family pictures, limerick-type pictures, and Armenian artwork decorate the walls, making Sasoon a somewhat divey restaurant with a homelike comfort. Everything we tried was fantastic. Lentil soup, falafel, taboule, hummus, you name it, it was authentic and fresh. The prices were very inexpensive, allowing you to sample many different entrees or come in for a quick meal. Armenian food is best meant for sharing, so order appetizers and entrees to share with your table and enjoy your visit. Literally tucked into a corner of a parking lot, it may be hard to find, but it shouldn’t be missed! The parking lot makes it hassle free to stop in, as I mentioned the food is very inexpensive but is very homemade and very tasty!

This is less of a restaurant and more of a family dining room. No, not like a family restaurant kinda feeling. I really mean a family’s dining room… a family… their house… their dining room. Welcome home… With only one visit under my belt(more surely to come) Nelda and her husband feel like my Armenian/Lebanese mom and dad(only I am Irish), and the food they prepare is pure love. You just feel a certain hospitatlity and warmth in their restaurant. We wanted gyros today, and luckily that was the special. But first it was suggested we try the lentil soup. It was a cool day, and the hot, hot soup was perfect for our lunch starter. Creamy with lentils forward, this is a perfect winter soup. For her main dish, M had the«plate» which was sliced, seasoned meat over white rice accompanied by a beautiful and tasty hummus. Warm pita bread came in a covered, homey basket. It was just enough to savor every bit of the hummus. My gyro pita was the same tender sliced meat with lettuce, tomato, a little onion and wonderful, creamy tzatziki. Not too big, and not too small. Just right. Another diner told us that the Armenian coffee was outstanding. Parking is tight in the small lot. Street parking is available, though. Sasoon offers a lot of value for the money with nice portions and reasonable, almost cheap, prices. This family has operated this restaurant for over 20 years, and it’s no surprise given the welcoming atmosphere and the delightful food. Thanks so much for allowing us into your home!

Another great strip-mall lunch find thanks to Unilocal! Very friendly, family run type of business. Décor is interesting, with lots of quotes/slogans/photos on the walls. Excellent service. Nice casual menu of Greek/Armenian/Middle Eastern items. Hubby had a gyros sandwich which he said was great, with a thinner style pita than most. I went with the rasna’na because of the amazing reviews here… it was delicious! Thin slices of sirloin beef in a thin garlic/lemon sauce… mmmmm! I dipped my pitas in that sauce afterwards! The sides of rice and salad that it came with were only average. Pitas are very fresh. Overall a solid place for lunch and amazing prices — $ 15 plus tax/tip for the two of us and we were stuffed!
