The service is SLOWWWWWW, food is good, but not worth a 35 minute wait for carryout, on top of that we got home and they forgot parts of our order… EPICFAIL I won’t be going back

I checked this place on Unilocal before I went in. It had some pretty low ratings but I was desperate to find something close to my sons soccer game because we were a little short on time and there was NOWAY I wanted fast food. Our waitress was VERY pleasant and attentive. There weren’t a lot of people there but it was a weekday during an odd hour so I didn’t think anything of it. I asked her what was good and she suggested the Traverse city salad or the gyro. Since I’m trying to watch my calories(haha) I opted for the salad. One of my boys had the kids chicken fingers and the other got pancakes. My salad was SOBEAUTIFUL that I had to post a photo.(check it out) It was as delicious as it was pretty. Loaded with walnuts, feta cheese, fresh fruit, and dried Michigan cherries. It came with a raspberry vinaigrette. The kids chicken was tender and juicy. The fries were cooked well and flavorful. The pancake came out with one large and two small so it looked like a Mickey Mouse. My son thought it was super cool. Sausage on the side, real butter, and a happy kid. I’m not sure why this place isn’t getting good reviews but we had a great meal, good service, and it was DIRT cheap. $ 15

Tried this place again for the first time since it opened a couple years ago and wow — Night and Day. Spotless, speedy service and the patio was really something you can’t get just anywhere. Oh… and the food was delicious. Had the chicken salad and my wife had the chicken gyro. Both tasted great. Margaritas were cheap, and it seemed like every table had at least a couple. We liked it so much we ended up getting carry out a couple of nights later. Hell, we liked it so much we thought it was worth taking the time to write a review!

NOOOO!!! A new owner!!! An uncreative, uninteresting, dime-a-dozen coney island(ie. BORING) owner. How did this happen?! If you go to Key West now, you will be transported not to the real Key West(not anymore!!) you will be taken to every crummy coney island DUMP you’ve ever gone to in the Detroit area with the same, old, tired faux Greek food service reheated items on the new, ugly menu. The amazing quesadillas? Gone! The fabulous boat drinks? Gone! The awesome burgers? Gone! You will be SHOCKED at the contrast. The old owners really must not think very highly of the local restaurant– going public or those of us who drive in from Ann Arbor just to go to this place! I almost cried!!!

Had almost the same thing happen to us Amanda A. but we were a dine in party. Service was really slow and bad. The food was cold. And they kept forgetting drinks and other items. They weren’t that busy either. I’m not one to complain because I could see how the manager(or owner?) acted when others in the party did. Even a day or two later a member of our party went up there to complain again and got nothing out of it. She said the manager came off cold and uninterested to the complaints. So there’s for sure a pattern there.

Ok, where do I start? The places is HORRIBLE, I usually forget about places that have horrible service and atmosphere, but I can not let other people suffer. When we sat down and mentioned we were part of a larger group we were told that they can not split checks on parties greater than 6. The explanation was that it was written on the menu(which it was not). As if that was some kind forbidden rule. Next, the waitress was about as sharp as a marble. I am sorry but she was WAY out of her league. I believe that they were under staffed, but come on it was TWOHOURS before we got our food. Which most was cold by the time it arrived. The bathroom was disgusting, the patio furniture was so flimsy it was laughable. I will never go there again, and I hope I save someone the same grief. I hate to be so negative but if you doubt me or the other posts about the service, give the place a try. You will be sorry. I have to imagine that the favorable posts are either friends or family or someone paid to post a nice comment. Save yourself the headache.

This place is nice for all seasons. Good drinks and desserts. Pizza is pretty tasty too. During a visit in January they had entertainment who slowed things down for me and my boyfriend. Dimmed lights down and everything just to create a romantic setting for us.

3 words — yum, yum & yum! What a cool little joint in the middle of the most unlikely place! I’m a big fan of sangria, and the first thing I see when I walk in is a billboard that said sangria is on special. Also, drafts were $ 2 and pitchers $ 6. I’m no cheapskate, but anytime good drinks are cheap, you go for it. The atmosphere is very Key Westie, from the wall colors to the knick knacks — even down to the ceiling fan, and they had a Carlos Santana wannabe playing his guitar in the corner. I was in Key West a few years ago and completely fell in love with it, so I was hoping this place would be authentic. I honestly felt like I wasn’t in Taylor at all. We were both in the mood for sandwiches, so my husband ordered the Key West Club with chips, and I ordered a Sloppy Joe with mac n’ cheese. Both were out of this world! The club was enormous, and had fresh ham, turkey, lettuce, and cheese. And the chips looked homemade. My sloppy joe was just like I had in Keys West and the mac and cheese was gooey and super cheesy, just the way I like it. And of course, the sangria rocked. They have much more than sandwiches and I was tempted by many items on the menu. And I couldn’t believe the prices. 3 drinks, 2 entrée’s, and a dessert for $ 21! And I didn’t even get to the coffee which is what they’re known for! So yeah, this little piggie will definitely be headed back.

The first time I came here which was right after it opened, I was pleased with my food. It was nothing spectacular but it got the job done. I used to work right around the corner so we decided to get carry-out for lunch. The second time we decided to get it, I went in to pick up the order and waited about 15 minutes(even though it was about 20 minutes after we placed the order, which they said would take about 10 minutes). There was a gaggle of high school girls behind the counter who didn’t seem to know what they were doing. They were unfriendly and a little snotty and I didn’t appreciate the lack of decent service. After I got our carry out and brought it back to the office, we were missing all the dressing that was supposed to come with the salads, my chicken quesadilla was disgustingly soggy, and didn’t come with the salsa and ranch I’d requested to go with it. I was charged 50 cents for the ranch so I wasn’t happy at all, but wasn’t about to go back for a condiment. I called to notify the manager and he seemed preoccupied and uninterested. It’s not like I expected anything special over the lack of dressing and condiments, but after witnessing the bad attitude of his employees, I didn’t appreciate the fact that his matched theirs quite precisely. That was the last time we got carry-out from there, especially since it’s more expensive than Pete’s Place down the street, which has much better food and friendlier service. I’d consider returning to this place though, I have a feeling a dine-in experience would be better especially now that they’ve been open for awhile.

My boyfriend & I found ourselves at Key West Coffee and Café the other night on the way home from a family function. We initially stopped because it looked like the most unlikely place in the most unlikely of places, and we were hungry and in the mood for something different. It did take us a long time to get service after we were seated, but I think it’s because the waitstaff was in a hurry to get the place set up for a musician that was coming in to play Beatles songs. Once a waitress did notice we hadn’t been helped yet, she made up for it with sincere apologies and superb service. The atmosphere is great — you really do feel like you’ve stepped into a restaurant in Key West. Being a former Floridian, I was impressed at how authentic it felt. The food was very, VERY good — in fact, my sandwich was so good I decided to take half of it home for later. The fried pickles we had for an appetizer were great — for a native Yankee who had never tried them, I was pleasantly surprised. My boyfriend had a chai latte and it was AMAZING — they used real whipped cream and some very good chai mix. I’d give this place 5 stars if it weren’t for the delay in getting service, but overall I highly recommend stopping in and experiencing Key West Coffee & Café if you ever find yourself in Taylor. You won’t regret it!

I just moved to the area from Chicago and was excited to see a restaurant with a patio and live music. I was excited to come, it is a great idea for a restaurant in this area, but I think they failed. The exterior looks great, attractively done. My first negative impression was when I walked into the breezeway of the restaurant, it smelled like sewer. Once I went through the 2nd door I confirmed the smell was coming from the inside. The inside was cheaply done, those horrible chairs they have at bowling alleys and dark carpet.(Maybe that’s why it smelled, get rid of the carpet!) We requested to sit on the patio, the hostess told us there would be a wait, but after going outside and looking, she was able to seat us right away. We were seated on the patio at one of those flimsy plastic tables that you pick up at Wal-Mart for $ 19. The umbrella over our table was made of the same pink trash bag material that those cheep lays you get in high school for spirit week are made of… Step it up! Anyway… we sat there for about 15 minutes before a waitress came over and asked us if anyone had taken our order, we said no and asked for a drink menu. She left to get the drink menu, five minutes later,(about 25 minutes after arriving, 20 minutes after being sat) we left, never to see the waitress again. I think this concept has potential, i feel like they were going for a Bahama Breeze feel, but the quality of the environment & service is absurd. I will go here again and see how it is and update this post if something changes.(I hope it does.) –Rip up the carpet — Put down stone –Get some better furniture inside and out –More/Better Waitstaff –Put a computer terminal outside for the servers can watch their sections more effectively.

Excellent place for breakfast and the BEST coffee in town. Very friendly staff with a great selection of pastries baked on the spot, breakfast and lunch. Ideal for breakfast. This is a new business and I hope they are successful and expand.
