My first time here because a colleague keeps Kosher … The food was good, I enjoyed the plating of my breakfast. Bagels are definitely fresh … Now the service, not so Kosher. As a mater of fact, it was horrible. The atmosphere was not up to par either. Better as a grab and go in my opinion. You’ll have better service and comfort eating at home.

I tried really hard to like this place… but I don’t. Everything is overpriced and the bagels definitely aren’t anything to write home about; but the service is what really makes the place terrible. The bagel area staff always seems more interested in talking to each other than the customers, and my toasted bagel ALWAYS seems to get forgotten. I understand that the line gets long, but I’ve been busier places with more welcoming staff/better line systems. I dread the idea of going here, and as a result have stopped going, despite its close proximity. It’s just not worth the guaranteed annoyance. At all.

I write this review as a regular customer and someone who has enjoyed Sammy’s for a long time. I can no longer enjoy coming here for one reason — the staff. There is an apparent culture among them of pure irreverence and disregard for the customers, where they are completely dismissive and generally disrespectful. In the last 4 visits consistently, I have stood on a long line of people waiting to be served, while at least 3 – 5 workers behind the counter were joking amongst themselves and talking to one another, while ignoring the line of customers waiting to be served.(They even do this across the store — yelling and joking to one another, as if they are all just hanging out). Again, this was not a one time fluke, but a consistent experience. I have heard them cursing and swearing loudly while talking to each other, and doing so in front of customers and children. The fact that Sammy’s prices are on the higher side is something I am willing to pay for if the food and service is good. However, the workers care little for the quality of your order and take little pride in what they present or how long you have to wait for it. I have watched when my hot order was prepared and it sat behind the counter as I kept asking for it repeatedly, until minutes later, I was finally handed my plate of food — cold. Again, not an isolated experience, but a common one. Last week, I ordered a dozen bagels for a party of guests, I was disappointed and embarrassed to serve them when I got home and I discovered that half of the bagels were burned and charred black, rather than being fresh. Who eats black bagels that are hard and black? Why were they even sold to me? It is this general lack of customer service or care that really bugs me. Finally, in their new expanded setup, to place an order can require you to run back and forth between the 3 different parts of the store and wait on numerous lines. Doing this with a table of guests or kids waiting for their food can be a nightmare. Would it not make sense to have one of the many servers that are lingering behind the counter just bring your food over to you when it was ready? On a number of occasions, I have been bounced around with nobody taking responsibility for helping me. They just keep sending me to «the other side» to get served — back and forth, where I wait in line and pay separately over and over. I know that I am not alone in feeling this way because I see many other customers complain about this and even yell at the workers behind the counter, who just completely ignore them. I have made eye-contact with many other customers who stand in disbelief at the way the staff conducts themselves. I once enjoyed this place and I hope the owners will take action to correct this, as I know they care. I have seen the management try repeatedly to point out to the employees the many things they are doing wrong — but it never seems to matter or make any difference whatsoever. If it were my place, I would do a thorough training on customer service — or completely replace my entire staff. Until something drastically changes, I am sorry to say that I will not be returning for myself, family or business.

I had a coworker bring in bagels and coffee from this place back in June and I was very pleasantly surprised. The bagels were huge and were delicious; they had the perfect consistency and was exactly what a bagel should taste like. The coffee was also very good and was definitely much appreciated. I can’t comment on the restaurant itself, but if you’re in the area and want a good bagel and coffee, this is a good place to try!

There is basically a 100% chance your meal will come out wrong. Ive been a handful of times because I dine at a local kosher(dairy) place and every single time the order is messed up. I’m sorry but its just deplorable and totally unacceptable level of service, insanely over prices, terribly run and oh so frustrating. Here’s the deal, if you pay the local rabbi for a kosher certification then they will not issue another one to a competing business. This means you have the right to run a horrible restaurant without the threat of competition. Please know I have 0 personal desire to speak ill of this restaurant. It’s just horribly run.

This restaurant overcharges — everything costs 20% more than the menu, but they don’t tell you until you get to the register and you feel bad arguing with the guy. Pizza is OK –not good. They take forever and consistently mess up orders and no one behind the counter takes responsibility for it. We are neighbors and hardly go here for a reason.

Probably the rudest bagel store I’ve been to. They make you feel like you’re intruding on them. VERY rushed, and not clear where you’re supposed to be to order, where you’re supposed to be to pay… The food is ok, not geat. I live in Teaneck, but I avoid this place.

Terrible customer service. I was on hold for about 15 minutes till someone finally helped me with a catering order. Very slow in response and very rude in response. I would definitely take my business elsewhere. I was NOT impressed at all.

The best bagels I have ever had, been going there for almost 20 years-crazy! The staff overall is incompetent, but I am still giving it 5 stars(the baker gets 10 stars to compensate for the front end staff)! I particularly like there everything stick, and there Black Russian with butter and tomato. There salads are pretty good as we’ll.

My adult kids prefer Sammy’s Bagels to the many options in the area. That said why not more stars? The reason is a simple one, service. My initial draft of this review was a little less generous then the one I’m going to post but they have a great product, poor store layout and seemingly constant logistical issues with cash registers and the service is a bit of a downer first thing in the morning. Starting your commute into the city? This will get you into that New York state of mind.

Sammy’s without a doubt has the best bagels in the ny/nj area. I have tried numerous bagel places in the city as well as nj and nothing can beat the fluffy goodness of Sammy’s bagels. They are special :)

The bagels are great. They are also huge. Everything is nice and fresh. The custom salads are a lot of fun too — though the dressings have way too much sweetener and could be way better. One thing I’ll never understand is how they manage to mishandle the long line during rush-hours or big bagel days. I don’t understand why they can’t develop a good working system. I suspect there are some seniority issues with new managers being brought in and senior employees insisting on doing things their way. Either way, there’s always bickering and inefficiency during peak hours. That said, everyone knows this and continues to wait on the lengthy mismanaged lines because the bagels are just so good.
