Cherohala Skyway Visitor Center

The Cherohala Skyway is completely gorgeous! The staff here at the visitor center are friendly and helpful. I think they gave us more maps than we even needed. Hahaha. But thank you for being so kind! They are very glad to tell you all about sights to see along the road. From the visitor center the most popular stop is Bald River Falls. Just head down the road and veer right. They’ll give you all the instructions you need. (They say it takes only 10 minutes. But I would give it more like 20 minutes). We came along the skyway during fall for leaf peeping season. Oh the colors were magnificent! It was a smart move. If you are looking to avoid the Gatlinburg traffic come here for a more serene perspective of the mountains and valleys. My favorite stop is Turkey Creek. On the one side you look at the foot of the Appalachians and on the other side all you can see is the river valley and the towns beyond. So picturesque. You’ll love this road.

The staff here was friendly, patient, and most importantly very knowledgeable about the area.
Very clean restrooms and a very interesting back room with information about being safe around bears.
They have a gift shop, with decent prices, though I really didn’t find anything I really liked the day I was there.
Definitely worth stopping in, especially if it’s your first time through the area.
