WOW. i’m sad. i happened to drive by last week and noticed that there was no dumpling house. this confirms the suspicion that it is CLOSED forever. *sniff-sniff* i remember when i used to drive back to my aunt’s house. i would call to order takeout on the road. by the time, i arrived, my food was ready. =) hope mr. & mrs. chen have a relaxing retirement. =D this was one of my favorite dumpling/noodle house ever. *tear* love, jenny ;)

I am so sad you are retiring, but I know it’s much deserved. My family and I have been going for a long time(since I sat in a high chair), and really love your food. I’ll miss it a lot, and will definitely be going again before you close. Love and best wishes, Frances

This place isn’t so bad considering how they have decent(Jja Jang Myung) Blackbean noodle and Fried dumplings. We heard about this place from Eric C. and gave it a try. It was nice to find this Korean/Chinese restaurant that serves our favorite dishes! With nearly $ 5 a gallon for gas, this place is worth checking out if you don’t want to make that trip out to Koreatown for some decent Korean/Chinese food. If you’re expecting authentic chinese food, you’re at the wrong place. I have yet to try other things on their menu but I usually stick with my favorite dishes. That being said, this place is decent and I’ll be a returning customer. Nothing fancy. Just your hole in the wall cheap convenient place to come for a quick bite to eat. Best Korean-Chinese restaurant in SGV so far!

Attention everyone! You have less than 4 hours until this place closes for good!!! The owners are retiring and today is their last day. I’m so sad that this place is closing but fortunately I was able to have one last meal here this past Saturday. We came around 1:30PM expecting long lines but surprisingly the place was pretty empty. Steamed shrimp dumplings — huge dumplings with two pieces of shrimp inside Boiled fish dumplings — very flavorful with chives in it as well Fried pork dumplings — these are the size of empanadas! Nice and crispy with lots of pork inside. Beef stew noodle soup — the soup was watered down but the beef was flavorful but it didn’t have a lot of pieces. Not the best beef noodle soup I’ve had. Liang Zang Pi(cold glass noodles with vegetables) — I’ve never had anything like it. I love the mixture of the cold vegetable with the hot pork. The flat glass noodles are great. The sauce has the hot Chinese mustard in it so there’s a little kick. Green onion pancake — nice and flaky but a little on the oily side. On a previous visit, I’ve had the pork and glass noodle wraps and they were really good. For four people(three males and myself) this was a lot of food. Total was $ 15 per person including tax and tip. Great price considering we had a decent amount of left overs. I’m sad I didn’t get to try their dessert dumplings but I heard those were good too. I’m sad to see this place go but I wish the owners nothing but the best in their retirement.

I went to Dumpling House Restaurant with a friend and my boyfriend, and we ordered: — fish dumplings — gyoza(fried pork dumplings) — steamed shrimp dumplings — chicken dumplings — onion pancakes — one other dumpling dish that I can’t seem to recall The onion pancakes were very good; I’d get them again without doubt. The dumplings here are at least twice as big as the ones at Din Tai Fung Dumpling House, but the dumpling skins were a lot doughier and thicker, overriding some of the dumpling filling flavor. Probably that is why I got fuller off of fewer than 17 dumplings here compared to how many I ate at Din Tai Fung, haha.

Wow we ordered WAY too much and couldn’t even attempt to try a dessert dumpling. Here was our food lineup(out of 3 stars): Green Onion Pancake ** Glass Noodle Omelet wraps with green onions and hoisin sauce ** Spicy Beef Noodle Soup ** Spicy Tofu *** Boiled Pork, Cabbage, Chives Dumplings *** Steamed Pork, Glass Noodles, & Veggie Buns * Fried Pork Dumplings *** Steamed Veggie Dumplings * This was all for 4 people that usually eat quite a bit. So really be prepared, the servings are HUGE and the dumplings are BEASTS compared to other restaurants. But whatever, I have dinner for tonight and it all only cost us(with tax) $ 16 each. Pretty sweet. Meanwhile our really sweet server was constantly making fun of us, or mainly me. She would just look over and start laughing. I’m pretty sure she was wondering how on earth we were going to finish all this food! PS the tea is so freaking good. Ugh. I could drink it all day and night.

My friends and I came here for lunch on a Sunday. We ordered several items. 1. Spicy pork tripe — This was good. The chili oil gave this dish a good kick. 2. Sesame sauce noddles — This was ok. The sesame peanut sauce was kinda weird but not too bad. The noodles that they used made the dish a bit heavy to eat. So order this if you want to fill up. =) 3. Steamed shrimp dumplings — These were pretty good. The size of the dumplings were huge. Not what we were used to from other dumpling restaurants. They did not have any juices in them like other types of dumplings. 4. Steamed pork dumplings — Same as the shrimp ones but these weren’t as good. They were just ok. A little bland so we had to make sure the dipping sauce we good. You get to make your own by using the different sauces on the table. The prices were good and service was good. They serve beer there too for those of you that would like to knock down a cold one with your meal.

I visited Dumpling House a few weeks ago when they were having a special of $ 1 beers. Unfortunately, the $ 1 beers turned out to be Budweiser. Eh, none of us were particularly big fans of Bud, but for $ 1 each, of course we all had some anyway to accompany our meal. As for the chow, Dumpling House specializes in dumplings(obviously) and food from the Beijing area, which is less common and a nice change from the more ubiquitous Cantonese options. They had some really good dishes, but the rest were average, and it always baffles(and depresses) me to have average Chinese food in the San Gabriel Valley since I know that within a 1 mile radius, I can find tons of better options. Here’s what we had: — BOILEDFISHDUMPLINGS: This was okay, but nothing special. The filling was a bit mushy and bland. I’ve had better fish dumplings at even Din Tai Fung(although I won’t go there anymore because I got food poisoning the last time I was there. See my review of that place if you really want details.) — STEAMEDSHRIMPDUMPLINGS: I liked the flavor of the shrimp, but I think the dumplings were oversteamed because the wrapper was so flimsy that the dumpling started to fall apart when I picked it up with my chopsticks. — FRIEDPORKDUMPLINGS: These were the best of the dumplings I tried. Well, they are fried, so I guess it’s not a shock, but as fried dumplings go, they were pretty darn good. The dumplings weren’t greasy and the skin was crisp. Most importantly, good«porkiness» throughout the filling. — STEAMEDPORKBUNS: Blah. I usually love steamed pork buns but these were not up to par. The filling was pretty flat, and the bottom of the bun was soggy to the point that the filling was coming out through a soggy hole in the bread. — GREENONIONPANCAKE: I liked these a lot. Flaky with a good amount of scallions and just the right amount of oil — not enough to be greasy, but just enough to be tasty. — GLASSNOODLEWRAPS: This is a specialty of the Beijing area, and consists of stir-fried glass noodles(same type of noodles as the Korean japchae) with vegetables which is all then topped with a thin egg omelet to form this omelet covered mound. This comes with the same type of pancakes that you use for Peking duck which you then fill with this omelet-glass noodle combination. Like Peking duck, you also add hoisin sauce and fresh scallions to it. A friend of mine called this the«poor man’s moo-shoo.» Whatever you want to call it, it’s unique and delicious. One of my favorite choices of our meal, and I strongly recommend it to anyone who swings by this place. — ZHAZHANGMIAN: These are noodles topped with a thick dark soybean sauce which has minced onions, zucchini, and pork mixed in. This is another popular dish in the Beijing area. It often looks odd to people who haven’t had it before because when it is served, the dark soybean sauce is just poured over the steamed noodles in a bowl, so that the noodles are completely covered and it just looks like this dark, almost muddy mound. However, when it’s made right, it can be really yummy. I often don’t order this, because many places don’t use enough onions and zucchini to balance out the flavor of the soybeans and pork, but Dumpling House’s is pretty good. Great noodle texture too. — MANDARINSTYLECHOWMIEN: This is basically stir fried noodles with chicken(you have a choice between chicken, pork, beef, combination, etc.), cabbage, carrots, leeks, etc. It was fine, but somewhat uninspired. — APPLEDUMPLINGS: This dessert is Dumpling House’s version of the Beijing sweet treat known as «basi»(sort of pronounced«bah — suh»). There are many different forms of «basi»(e.g. apple, banana, etc.) Basically, you take the fruit and cover it in batter and then cook it in a caramel glaze. They must be served immediately, since the caramel coating gets sticky quickly. Traditionally, you serve them with a bowl of water on the side, and you use the water to dip individual pieces in order to harden the caramel. Dumpling House’s version was okay, but the batter was a little thick and the caramel got a bit too gummy. Also, they didn’t serve the apple dumplings with the bowl of water to dunk them in, which would have helped. — SWEETPOTATODUMPLINGS: These are basically sweet potato pieces glazed with a sugar coating. They weren’t dipped in batter like the apple dumplings. I actually liked these better than the apple dumplings since the texture was much better. With tax and tip, our group of 12(yes, we squeezed in 12 people to this table) paid $ 13 including tax and tip. And this even included about 20 beers on the bill.

For the price point, ample free parking and cheap beer, this was a great choice for New Year’s eve lunch. I rounded up some people and descended on the place last Thursday around 12:30. We didn’t leave until after 3. For 6 people, it made sense to order 6 orders of dumplings, right? Along with that, we also got the fried chicken, spicy beef noodle soup, a lunch special(chicken and veggies) along with dessert dumplings and a dozen beers($ 2 for import, $ 1 for Bud and such). It worked out to be $ 25 a person. Not bad! Fried pork dumplings were not as good as I remembered nor as huge but still pretty decent. Then we had a series of boiled and steamed dumplings. The fish was my favorite but you can see whole shrimp in the shrimp ones. The chicken was somewhat unmemorable in comparison. The chicken and veggie dish was terrible with canned mushrooms. The fried chicken was much better. The onion pancake was huge, somewhat lightly greasy but needed more green onion flavor. The seafood mandarin noodles were disappointing. All the dishes weren’t really presented well but I suppose what do you want for about $ 5 a plate? Overall, I probably wouldn’t order any of these dishes again again. The spicy beef noodle soup was not spicy at all but not a bad bowl. I would have to heavily doctor it to my liking though for some reason even the spicy sauce needed a kick. Still, the thing to get are the dumplings and the dessert dumplings. We got the banana and had to request the cold water to dunk ‘em in. This caused the outer layer to harden but didn’t really do anything about the burning hotness of the dessert. Would I pick this place for dumplings over other joints? No, but I would if I wanted some place for cheap satisfying food that could hold a large party. 3.5, rounded up

3.5 stars — fried pork dumplings: it’s all about their HUGE fried pork dumplings! — boiled shrimp dumplings: flavorful, but getting it steamed would probably be better. We walked in ½ hr before closing so the steamed dumplings weren’t available. — beef noodle soup: good«handmade» noodles, not so much for the beef broth. 2 thumbs down for this dish. (pictures to follow) Service: 4 stars. friendly and welcoming. * If I go back, I’ll order the fried dumplings and try their STEAMED fish and shrimp dumplings and maybe a fried noodle dish since they’re known for their homemade noodles.

We love this restaurant. The family who owns it is super nice. It’s scant inside, but so homey. Order any of the dumplings. You pretty much can’t go wrong, though our favorites are the fried pork and the steamed shrimp dumplings. I love their green onion pancake; nice and crispy with good green onion flavor. The beef noodle soup is tasty, too. I must mention too, that I have grown up eating in little traditional Chinese restaurants like this in the San Gabriel Valley, but my boyfriend most definitely has not. I dragged Joe D. to many Chinese restaurants for dumplings, and he never really«got it» until we came here.

What can I say about this place?! I’ve been coming here since I was like 6(or should I say«over a decade» ’cause that just sounds so much cooler haha) They’re family owned which is GREAT and it’s been the same owner, it’s nice seeing familiar faces :) I always get jia jiang mian & their green onion pancake&occasionally, their dumplings :). My parents love their chow ma mian & the cold chicken with cucumber! For a while their portions got really small, but recently it’s back to how it used to be before. & also, I think maybe the décor could be updated haha it’s been like that since they opened I’m pretty sure haha. But Seriously TRYTHEIRJIAJIANGMIAN! it’s SOGOOD. I DREAMABOUTEATINGDUMPLINGHOUSE. That’s how legit it is haha. I like that they give kimchi & oranges after too :) I guess the owner can speak korean too ’cause the menu is also written in Korean.

This place got high ratings. I disagree. I was here for lunch today in hopes of redeeming myself from such a sleazy experience I had during yesterdays lunch. First let me just say… I thought I was going to this place:
Yes — the website looks nice. I thought I was upgrading. I am so sick of dining at nasty Asian joints for lunch. Its something I don’t think I will escape seeing how I work in this neighborhood. I decided not to order dumplings because I have a freezer full of them. So what its their specialty. Rather then go into detail about everything I ordered let me just say ITWASALLBLAND. Even the chili sauce was less than. I had to mix soy sauce in it to satisfy my buds. The service was the best so they get two stars. No pictures because there aren’t enough mega pixels in the world to make this food look tasty. One last thing… Onion pancakes are stupid!

This place makes a mean vegetable dumpling! The veggies are minced up to microscopic bytes and blended to make a nice filler for the dumplings inner being. Also the veggie combination is very good too if your into to pickled veggies that have a sour vinigury punch to them. Review from 7÷6÷2009. Listing moved do to being listed at the wrong location.

OMGDESSERTDUMPLINGS! So we came here for lunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon and left the ordering up to one friend. I have no idea what was ordered but all the dumplings were good but I was NOT a fan of the green onion pancake. Lets just say it was a bit too oily for my digestion, apart from the fact I despise green onions too. With our rather large group(7), they gave us a complimentary order of the deep fried pork dumplings which were alright. So yes. the dessert dumplings caught our eye on the menu. We were quite interested in seeing what it was all about so we ordered the apple ones and the lady insisted we order it Large. She first brought out a soup bowl with something and ice. One of us tried it and realized it was water. We had no idea what it was for. We found out later on that they brought it out for us to wash our chopsticks with … ok … not very sanitary. Eventually it came out and large was pretty big. The apple dessert dumplings … were overrated … It was nothing but battered and deep-fried apple chunks with super sweet sticky sauce on top. If you’re watching your weight or if you’re concerned about your dental hygiene, steer clear of these. These suckers are super heavy and stick to your teeth(probably destroys your enamel too). Anyways, its another typical tasty dumpling house with lots of other dishes as well. No lamb dumplings here though. Apparently it is run by koreans because kimchi came free. Service is rather slow. It got pretty hot in there. There was this annoying chirping sound coming from the sound. Weird paintings of tigers and stuff.

I’ve been coming to eat at this restaurant ever since I was a little girl(I’m 19 now) and I still love this place. What’s more, my family and I order pretty much the same things every. single. time. And I’m still not sick of it. In fact, I’m going to eat there again tonight! The ambiance is very nice, Asian(tiger art and wooden Chinese characters hanging on the walls), quiet, and comforting. They have a small fountain of catfish in the back of the restaurant. The owners are also extremely nice. The food is perfect and delicious every time. I always order the(broiled?) fish dumplings, chow ma mien, green onion pancake, among others. The fish dumplings are perfectly soft and juicy, but I guess if you absolutely hate chives, then you won’t like this dish. The mien, or rather any mien on the menu, is delicious, because it’s completely handmade. The sweet yams on the dessert section of the menu is pretty good too — and this is coming from someone who doesn’t really like yams. In short, this place is amazing. Go nowwwwww haha.

I came here based on the reviews I read on here. It was a party of eight and we ordered family style to share. Everyone was right about the fried pork dumplings — they were good! The green onion pancake was ok… I’ve had better at Earthen. We also ordered the vege dumplings and a couple noodle dishes, which were ok as well. The restaurant was really nice when I called in — I knew they didn’t take reservations but I asked anyway and he was kind enough to actually put me down for a reservation for eight! It ended up being about $ 10 per person, which was a pretty good deal since we still had leftovers. =)

They don’t have xiao long bao, but everything else was awesome. Went with two friends, and we just got a ton of dumplings. The best ones were the fried pork ones(everything fried is usually better), then the steamed ones were also good. The boiled ones were a bit too soggy, and honestly something I would not get again the next time I am here. We came here mid afternoon on a Saturday(around 2pm), and there were not many people at all here, which was great. The scallion pancakes were also really good, as they had many layers and it was fried to perfection. Highly recommended– Cheap, great service, and just good food. Boom.

After driving past this place like everday for the past 2 years, I finally went in! There were so many things on the menu that I wanted to try, and sadly I forgot to order the steamed pork dumplings, =(which is suppose to be one of the best items there. My friends and I got the boiled chicken and mushroom dumplings, pork and veggie dumplings, cold noodles in their house sauce, and the seafood chow mein. The dumplings were good, the noodles were a little on the soggy side, and my only other complaint was that the cold noodles weren’t as cold as I expected(then again, it was 100 degrees outside) Overall decent prices $ 6-$ 8 for most items(they have good lunch specials), yummy dumplings, no wait for a table, and they give you sliced oranges at then end =)

This was one of the few times I ever gotten humbled and needed to eat a crow or two. Not so long ago, Lisa V. and I had a running discussion about where to go for dumplings(way before Minty started the thread). It was by luck Lisa would asked for my expertise one day and I bounce a few places for her to check it out. Then out of the blue, she declared that it was all taken care of because Judy H. knows a place. Pffftttt… whatever! Like a jilted ex-lover, I begin my envious investigation on Judy H.‘s reviews and scoured to see what dumpling places she might know of and that I might not have heard of. After a decided moment, I realized there was a keyword in her reviews, so I entered the word«Yum-O» on her keyword search for her reviews. Voila! This place popped up as a dumpling joint that I had not visited so far. It was the only one that was a difference between me and Judy H. for Lisa V.‘s affection and continuation for whom to look up as the Dumpling master. So reluctantly, I decided to visit THE Dumpling House and see what was the fuss was all about. You see… I was ready to write an ONE star review to spite Judy and make her look bad in front of Lisa V. Man, what a cad, right? The place was located in what looks like a plaza for office buildings. It had an insurance office and a few clinics. Yet, this was the only restaurant or eatery place in the whole plaza. I guess they had been around for awhile and was OK to stay there. The place need some remodeling and may need to get some new tables and chairs for the place. It just looked a little too early 90-ish for me. The plastic around the place looked faded on the chairs and tables. OK, so how do the dumplings stacked up? I had ordered: *Steamed Pork Dumplings Nice succulent dumplings. With some soy sauce, these bad boys are indeed Yum-O. *Boiled Dumplings A little different method in cooking the dumplings. These get boiled in hot water while the other were steamed. More savory with these and still tasted good. *Goyza(fried dumplings) There were probably the only missed for me as I thought the skin was too rough for fried dumpling. Not crispy or crunchy and in fact, a little greasy. Nonetheless, it was served in big portions for dumpling lovers. *Fried Won tons Traditional fast food that rivals French Fries for some. It’s one of those you had to order to see how it compared. Can’t say it was better than local Thai restaurants’ won tons, but again it comes in big portions. Probably an average grade for this one. *Fried Green Onion Cake A Definite Yum-O! For $ 3, these pile of suckas are a must order for appetizers or starters to a meal. It is in bite sizes and you can rolled it up to make a beef roll or tortillas later on. I still prefer Din Tai Fung for dumplings over this place, but it is still worth checking out if you are in a lookout for fast dumpling joint. It took about 20 minutes for all the orders to be ready. Trust me, certain places would take at least 30 minutes if they didn’t have the order ready. OKOK, so I don’t hate the place and my sentiments was the same as Judy H. It pained me to say that she was right about the place and I needed to read her reviews or I would have missed this place. Yeah, I’m still bitter and probably will get over it… but it won’t be that quick. —— Personal note: Review of the Day(1÷3÷08)
