This noodle place is super close by and is my go to place when I am really craving noodles. They are known for their knife cut and hand pulled noodles. My favorites are the beef noodle soup and the shredded pork with veggies one(I don’t remember the name for this):). The service is okay. It depends on who takes your order. I’ve tried their beef roll, onion pancake, steamed dumplings, and pan fried dumplings. They’re all okay. Their food is inconsistent. Sometimes, the soup base for the beef noodle soup is more rich and herbal, other times, its more watered down and light. Compared to the House of Mandarin Deli, I would choose New Mandarin Noodle Deli’s soup base, but House of Mandarin Noodle’s beef and noodles. I hope you all find this helpful! If you haven’t tried either of those places, give it a go if you’re nearby! :D

小笼包 is way better than 鼎泰丰’s tasteless crap. It’s the taste I remember from 20 years ago where most of the Chinese restaurants around SGV were focused more on flavor than competition with other restaurants. Priced right too. Their chili oil is bomb. Will definitely be back for more. And BTW, they’re one of the original beef rolls in the temple city neighborhood so I don’t understand what all the compliments were about. Oh and if you can read Chinese, this place is obviously not based on «Taiwanese» food. The place is called Shanxi noodles…

Yummy! Our go to for fast comfort food, and it’s even parent approved. All the dumplings are pretty good; the«burritos» are also tasty, but the best would be the beef noodle soup. It’s not too strong like other places and the noodles are perfect! This place is a little gem in our small city and I’ll be coming here for years to come.

The food here is always good, service is always typical Chinese restaurant but it’s actually a little better this time. Food has gotten pretty good. The items I got were my usual. Beef stewed noodles with hand pulled noodles, spicy seafood noodle soup, Chinese burrito with Kung pow shrimp, pot stickers and pan fried noodles with pork. It’s all good and not very oily.

Out of all places to get Taiwanese food in SGV, I’m sad that we spent our cherished meal here. The food was just average, and we’ve had significantly better food elsewhere. The pan fried dumplings were too floury, and the skin just wouldn’t stay connected to the meat. I had so much trouble eating these. The hot & and sour soup was the probably the best dish we ordered. It was actually pretty good. A little too thick but not too sour. The beef roll(or burrito that they call here) was not rolled well. My first bite had only cucumber and my last bite had only meat. The hoisin sauce was lacking, and it tasted very dry. The green onion pancakes were again too floury. They were also very greasy. And finally, the beef noodle soup. I can see how some people like it because it was lighter than usual and not as flavorful. Unfortunately, that’s exactly the reason I didn’t like it. To add to the below average food, they also forgot to bring out our food, and we sat around waiting for 45 min while all of the other tables around us got theirs first. They didn’t even apologize or acknowledge their mistake. Not saying I expect good service at an Asian place, but I can expect to at least get our meal, right? I won’t be returning here. The drive out to SGV is deserving of a much more satisfying and qualifying meal.

Hadn’t been here in a while. I heard the quality is not as good since the ownership changed so I’ve kinda avoided it. I ended up trying it and I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the pork boiled dumplings and the pan fried dumplings were on point. Some other places I’ve been to recently have tiny dumplings with very little filling, but this place does it right. I also really liked the green onion pancake. I find that other places are a little chintzy with the green onions and you can barely taste it. The pancakes here are much better and full of the green onion flavor.

Just happened to walk by this restaurant and, intrigued by it, had dinner here instead of the Chinese restaurant down the street. It features knife-cut noodles. Personally, not sure what the big deal is, as the noodles are rather roughly cut, and are more like noodle«chunks». I suppose they must be fresh though. You can have your pick of beef, lamb, seafood and more, with the noodles. The lamb was very tasty, paired with napa cabbage. The beef was very tender — they definitely slow cooked for a while. Seafood is mostly shrimp and squid and some fish. Definitely would try the lamb again next time!

Went to this place for lunch for the first time. Noted that it has several names: New Mandarin Noodle Deli in English(kind of reminds me of a well-known restaurant in Monterey Park/Little Tokyo/Anaheim from way back with a similar name famous for their Beef Noodles). In Chinese, it’s either Hometown Place or Shansi Noodle House. With high competition in San Gabriel and specifically along Las Tunas, a restaurant is chosen as a place to go to based on food taste, price, and service. To me this restaurant has all. How can you beat 8 steamed dumpling for $ 6.95. The noodles are flavorful. It offers a large variety of noodle and dumpling dishes. It serves mainly Northern style cuisine(and also interestingly Taiwanese). The décor is simple but clean. I had an enjoyable lunch.

Overpriced mediocre chinese food. Warning: Whatever you do, DONOT get the beef onion burrito also known as the beef roll! Meat was cheap and low quality and oily as F#*k. You will regret it if you do. 不好吃! Other menu items were average and only thing worthwhile was the beef noodle soup. Will not be coming back here ever again. 一定不会回来。

I used to come here a lot in high school and I think from then the owner or management has changed and you can definitely taste it in the food. The last time I came here the food was bland, the server got our orders wrong and nothing we got was worth writing home about. A little disappointed since I’ve been coming to this place since I was a kid, but hey. what can you do?

Came for lunch and only had the Seafood noodle soup with the knife cut noodles. The noodles were thick and chewy and all the seafood was good except that I don’t like Tilapia or whatever fish they use. The soup is a similar to Mandarin Deli’s on Atlantic except that it isn’t ma la spicy.

First off, it’s called the New Mandarin Noodle Deli because the current owners didn’t want to change the sign or printed awnings when they took over the restaurant. But that aside, this place is well worth a visit. In addition to standard Northern Chinese food, you’ll find Shanxi specialties. That’s a province that isn’t well represented in LA so if you love trying regional Chinese dishes, run, don’t walk there. They’ve also got several kinds of hand made noodles. Get this– they have noodles made from oat flour! These delightful noodles were a first for me. Finally, they’ve got a nice selection of cold plates. Yum. So the Chinese food scene is wildly competitive in LA. Most of the food served here is very good but very average by LA standards. It’s the Shanxi dishes that earn them the extra star.

I’ve come here off and on through the years. It’s your basic no trills Chinese food. I love the knife noodles, and the lamb chops. Don’t take it personally, if they give you crappy service. Oddly, they were more on it the one time I bought my non Asian friend with me. Payment: Cash Parking: Public lots is the back. Street parking. Service: It’s the real deal Chinese style you got to keep on waving down your waiter style. It’s nothing personal. Just order everything at once. If you drink a lot of water, order an extra water cup. Trust me on this one. Overall: Will be back and can’t wait to go back.

New Mandarin Noodle Deli! I’m not sure how many times this place changed ownership. But each time, the new owners chooses to keep the infamous«Mandarin Noodle» business name somewhere in between their restaurant name. I only know of one Mandarin Noodles restaurant, and the female owner is still in business elsewhere within the area. This noodle house has been around for a few years already after the original owner moved elsewhere about ten years ago. Anyhow, the food here is average. Yes I have tried better dumplings, better Xiao Long Baos, and tastier noodles elsewhere. But this place isn’t bad at all. I like their cold chicken dry noodles the most. It’s prepared similarly to the cha-ja mein which is also a dry noodle prepared with beef and maybe some preserved vegetables. Well, I could say it’s very similar except this one has chicken and some veggies also with a peanut taste. The bottomline was that I liked it. The noodle gravy was delicious! However I was a bit disappointed with their pork and shrimp dumplings. They do have a variety of pork dumplings they make. But for some reason this place does not serve crab dumplings. I was disappointed on the dumpling simply because the skin is too thick. The same goes for their Xiao Long Baos… I was disappointed because the skin was a bit too thick. The taste of their dumplings was a bit bland, even after dipping it in my dumplings sauce mixed with hot sauce, soy sauce and vinegar. I usually don’t eat ginger, but I had to this time to wake up my taste buds. They have quite a wide selection of foods they serve for a tiny restaurant. I saw onion Taiwanese pancakes, a variety of soup noodles along with its dry ones. They also have beef wraps, soup noodles, and a few rice dishes too. I come here because it’s a quick meal, and it’s convenient since it’s close to home. The next time I come, I will definitely order other dishes to try out. You really can’t go wrong going to a place like this one. This noodle house is very authentic despite the change in ownership. The best time to come is usually during the week. The whole restaurant is more on the quiet side. Sitting inside feels like a replica of a Chinese restaurant in Asia. The waitresses are nice and acknowledges you after you walk in. But anytime after the initial hello, the service disappears. It’s kind of weird. This place is not a two stars, nor is it a four stars. Just simply three stars. Don’t have high expectations or you’ll be disappointed.

Looking for a place to chow on a Saturday mid-afternoon, we drove by this place & thought it looks promising. I remember coming here many years ago and it was absolutely packed, though can’t remember much else. Since we got here around 3, it was near empty. We were seated at a small table against the window and remembered this was where they sat us last time we came. It was only after we ordered that I suddenly recalled we spotted 3 cockroaches climbing on the wall next to our table on our previous visit, and when we alerted the staff, they didn’t seem too bothered, just killed them w/a napkin … no apologies, no switching us to another table, no discounts. But that was the past, we were hungry and I spotted no roaches this time. We ordered the Beef Fried Noodle in Satay sauce & a Seafood Knife Paired Fried Noodle. The noodles itself were very good, chewy, firm and tasted homemade. The flavor on the other hand were seriously lacking. Both dishes were bland, no spices, no scallions, no salt … nothing. Both tasted like the cook just threw everything together and heated it all up in a pan. Both dishes reminded me of Spiceology in Arcadia: The service matched the food. Lacking. Though they did their job, that was it. When we were ready to order, one lady continued to clean tables around us, though she saw us sitting there waiting. What’s more important, new hungry customers or ones that already left? When we tried to flag down another lady, she proceeded to go over to the first one and chat a bit before coming over. Well, it must have been a very pressing issue that they needed to discuss urgently. We asked for ice water, and she forgot. So we had to remind her. It wasn’t as if they were busy. When we couldn’t finish our dishes & asked for the check, she didn’t bother to offer to-go boxes though she clearly saw there was a lot of food left on the plates, so I got them myself. When I left cash on the table to pay, the«cleaning» lady walked by several times but never picked it up, until finally about 10 minutes later. Mandarin Noodle Deli gave us many reasons not to return. Had I remembered we saw roaches the first time before walking in, that could have saved us the agony of trying to eat their bland dishes & experience their sub-average service.

I’m surprised to see this place has only a 3 stars because I had a great experience but I could see that they probably don’t have the same consistency every day for every customer. Fortunately for me, I had an enjoyable experience because my waitress was radiating smiles and good vibes the entire time. I believe she might have been the owner but I don’t know for sure. In any case, i ordered their most popular soup which was the beef noodle soup. It is unverified but I was told they hand make their noodles. I wish I could take a look in the back to confirm. Anyway, when it came out, the portion size was fairly large and generous but a bit bland. I had to add some chili sauce to give it some more kick and after doing that it tasted fine. Even though the food was ok and the service was friendly, I wouldn’t recommend it to my friends.
