Stopped here after a day of driving. it was late, close to close. We we worried that would make the service/food suffer. BOYWEREWEWRONG! We were treated as if we were the first guests of the day! The chef came out to check on us at the end of our meals and of course we raved! I HIGHLYSUGGEST their Kobe burgers! Hands down best burger I’ve ever had and I come from a long line of BBQ men! Love this restaurant!

If you’re looking for a chill atmosphere with cheap drinks, this is your spot. Haven’t had the chance to try their food yet but will be back to give them a shot. Service was quick and friendly. The only thing I would comment on is that the staff was dressed extremely casual(as in jeans and a sweatshirt). In my opnion a place advertised as a steakhouse would be a little more dressy. I think they should also offer some more local beer options, they had a TON of domestics and every major name brand you can imagine(Corona, Bud, Bud Light… etc), but being in Texas its nice to have local options. Also this is a smoking establishment, although you couldn’t really notice the smoke that much since it appears they have the place well ventilated. Getting rid of smoking I think would help get more people in and attract the Scott & White proffesionals which are a stones throw away.

I like the place, but it would be a 5 star bar if they carried Texas craft beer on tap. 4.5 stars really cuz you can still smoke inside and they have liquor and small food menu

Went there on a Saturday night good music but I’ve had a lot better service at McDonald’s and that’s saying something might give it one more chance to redeem it self other that wouldn’t recommend it

If I could give it less than one star I would… Went here with some friends to the bar area and we ordered a piña colada because they said they served those. When we got them mine was unbearably sweet and had a different taste that I couldn’t stand to drink, not piña colada tasting at all! I had taken maybe 2 drinks out of this and when I told the bartender I wasn’t happy with the drink she informed me that she didn’t make it so she couldn’t help me and I would still have to pay. I was so confused because most places are aimed at pleasing customers if that means comping the drink or at least offering to remake it/get you another drink. Never going back here again. And the old cigarette smell is no joke, it’s AWFUL!

Yay for Cactus Jacks recently opening in Temple again with new management and a new style of food– TexMex! This restaurant is so delicious and the service is so amazing. I really enjoyed the quesadillas, stuffed avocado and margaritas! The outdoor patio is perfect for a summer evening! They even have karaōke which is sooo much fun! Speaking of fun, that’s what this place is. There’s a bar, a room with pool tables and TV, an outdoor patio with entertainment, and the vibe of the whole restaurant is relaxed. The restaurant is spacey and I love the rock tables and seats. I’m obviously a fan of Cactus Jacks and can’t wait till I go again– Hopefully tomorrow!

Not bad but not very good. The sushi wasn’t put together very well and it was covered in so much eel sauce you couldn’t taste much else. The Alamo roll was quite tasty. They must have run low on eel sauce. Everything seemed cooked way too far ahead of time and refrigerated for far too long. The tempura was cold and stale. Eel was burnt. Service was excellent. Prices would be reasonable if they matched the quality of the food.

I wish I could review the food, but we never even ordered. We were in town for a sports event and this place was where the after game gathering was. We walked in and our group was seated outside. We all sat down and proceeded to wait 25 minutes, without ever seeing a waiter. No water, no appetizers, not even a bowl of miso. We asked for help 3 times, but they kept putting us off. They never even made it to our table, or the 2 next to ours. If it was super busy I could understand, but there was one table seated inside and 6 tables in the patio. I don’t know if the bar is a completely different establishment or what, we couldn’t order alcohol from the restaurant waiter(good thing, huh?), but ordered from a completely different server. The bar people were really nice and did the best they could given the situation.

Went here for the old Steak House it used to be, when we walked in and noticed it was a sushi place with really no notification of this(I mean the posters for events the old steak house held in the bar were still up, everything of the old steak house was there) we gave it a shot anyway. Their descriptions of their sushi are very lacking, more than some but when I order cooked rolls I expect everything to be cooked not just the deep fried stuff on top… The chef seemed pretty rude, we where in a booth right next to the kitchen and even though we decided to try this place out vs walking out we placed a pretty small order just two rolls but then again thats all we really needed we both where full afterwards. When the waiter took our order to the back we over heard the chef complaining that that«thats it why they no more» I’m sorry that only 2 people needed 2 rolls at $ 9.50 a roll… The place seemed over priced considering theres several all you can eat buffets in the area with sushi rolls that are just as good if not better. A smoking bar in any restaurant serving fish is just a bad ideal period. The décor of the restaurant is just wow, they really half assed the opening of this place and even have a gift shop on one side of it? The one 5 star review is miss leading and is obviously the owner as their photos are even of the restaurants menu. I dont see this place staying around for too long.

TALKABOUTNOTLASTINGBECAUSEOFVERYPOORSERVICE! WEWILLNEVERBEGOINGBACK Totally wish I would have read the prior rating before going, we thought we’d try the sushi for my husband but I got the steak. The sushi was good, but the waitress and hosting along with everything else, including the music was TERRIBLE!!! We hadn’t even sad down and she asked«what do you want to drink», no welcome no how are you folks tonight. We asked for waters and within a minute she had returned and asked again what we want? When I asked about the wine, she had no clued then said that the bar is separate so she didn’t know what they had, she walked away to get me their wine list, when I didn’t see anything I liked because I don’t like sweet wines, I ordered another drink and they didn’t have what my husband wanted so he ordered something else too, as she walked away I heard her huff to the hostess, «after all that she doesn’t even want wine!!» Wow, we should have left at that point because it didn’t get any better! My husbands sushi came before my overcooked steak, which tasted like a flank steak, not a rib eye, and I didn’t get my soup or salad until I asked when my meal arrived. She never asked if she could get refills for us, my husband had to ask after his glass was empty for a long while for another drink. Then when we asked for a check, she said it’s at the check out, ok so we go to the check out and they didn’t hand us an itemized ticket they just rang it up and told us the price, now I don’t know about you all but I like to look at my receipts just to make sure everything was correct that we ordered. Well, when we asked for the itemized ticket she said they don’t have one so we asked to see what she just rang up, just to make sure, she showed it to us and when I had a question, the waitress snapped at me got the menu to show me and I was about to loose it, so we paid and got the … out of that place. Not worth the money, not worth the service, not worth your time folks!!!

New sushi place in Temple, just opened. according to the décor it was a steak house in another life. No biggie for me as I came for the sushi but when I walked in to be seated you need to know this… If you like to smell cigarettes while eating sushi then this is place for you… Nothing like the smell of smoke from smokers all over your sushi… I mentioned this to waitress and she said to me, well it must be coming from the bar side but it has a door. I only saw 4 people on bar side… The place smelled terrible of old cigarette smoke, and you know all that fresh fish they are going to serve you is just soaking in the smoke smell as well. As for me, I left, never to return!

I have eaten at Cactus Jacks several times. The food and especially the service seemed to decline as time passed. Much the same as it’s predecessor, the Market Street Café. Cactus Jack’s has since closed and is now a Chinese restaurant.

We lived across the street from this place when we lived in Temple, TX. We went there twice. The first time was with my in-laws. We were pretty excited to take them there because we had in fact heard quite a lot of good reviews from people at work. The wait staff were nice, but the service was terribly, terribly slow! From the time we ordered, we waited more than 45 minutes for our food to arrive. We were close to walking out. It would have been understandable had the place been busy, but there were perhaps two other tables with diners at them in the place. The food was mediocre at best and expensive(relative to the taste). The second time I went was for a work luncheon. On this occasion the food was again only mediocre at best. Food service was much faster; however, there were 25 – 30 of us and the whole thing had been prearranged and we had ordered more than a week ahead of time. I doubt I would recommend this restaurant, though there are relatively few good eating options in Temple so it may actually be one of your better bets.

If you want to wait 2 ½ hours for your food. Oh yeah, it also took them an hour to bring out the bread. the soda tasted flat. the food was mediocre. we sat outside on the porch. it was quiet but its only because we were the only group there. definitely did not do our research before going there. It was overpriced for the area too! i got a horrible steak for 20 $. they claimed they had new menus, but it just seemed like the chef had no idea what he was doing. our waitress was friendly, but not very smart. this chubby guy came to our table to greet us, which i thought was kind of sweet. then to find out he was the chef… not impressed! He smelled really bad, like B.O. and was in grungy clothes. I mean just really unprofessional. he actually told us he was a pastry chef, who dabbles in cooking. what a great place to pay almost $ 20. for crappy meal. i don’t think you can pay me to eat there. oh and it was right off the highway, so while we were eating, we were breathing in nasty air. awesome!!! think this is the first time i have given a one star to a restaurant.

I’ve had the great pleasure of eating in many restaurants in many, many places. Some of them have been truly divine, others mediocre, and still others, outright bad. The meal I recently had at Cactus Jack’s has the dubious honor of being one of the worst meals I have ever eaten — and this is even compared to my mother’s food, which growing up we liked to refer to as «burnt offerings.» I didn’t know it was possible to screw up a chicken-fried steak, but CJ’s did it to not one, but two in my party. I saw they were burnt and almost impossible to cut. My opinion is that it’s tough to cook a truly bad burger, so that’s what I order whenever I go to a new place in an area(like Temple) that’s not known for high-quality restaurant food. I ordered a burger on this occasion and I did ask for it to be well-done; however, this thing came out so black and dried out that it rivaled the burnt offerings I’d eaten as a child. Thank god I had a steak knife, because I had to SAW at that thing to get it into pieces I could chew without fearing a broken tooth. The burger was served with NO lettuce, onion, tomato, pickles, etc. and NO condiments. No mayo, no mustard, no ketchup. I was asked if I wanted ketchup to go with my onion rings, but I took one look at the grease dripping out of the rings and knew I would not be eating them. I unfortunately was in a situation where I could not say a single word to the waitstaff or manager about the deplorable food that had been served, as the entire party was being treated to this meal by an elderly man who wouldn’t say«poo» if he had a mouthful. Not only would it have embarrassed him to death, but it would have been incredibly insulting. So, I came to Unilocal. Cactus Jack’s, you should be ashamed. You have no business serving food that terrible and charging them any money whatsoever. Also, get a proofreader for your menu — the mistakes in there were embarrassing.

I went to Cactus Jack’s over Christmas while we were visiting Temple and my Brother and Sister-in law. It was our last day and we were catching a flight in the afternoon back to Buffalo, one of my requirements for visiting Texas was to have a large steak and my brother in law suggested Cactus Jacks, after purposely skipping breakfast we arrived at lunchtime and were the only people there, our server was attentive but it did seem as though we’d caught them off guard and they weren’t expecting people at that time. He got us our drinks straight away and I ordered the 24oz T-Bone steak, with fries and a side of Chili, after a reasonable time the food arrived and the steak was cooked just as I requested(Medium Rare) but I was particularly impressed with the home made Chili which was delicious and I would recommend it, the Steak was juicy and while a challenge to finish I powered through and did indeed finish the whole thing. We decided to have desert which was tasty enough and paid our bill and left After a while I started to feel uneasy and became sick with chronic diarrhea, however i’ll give Cactus Jack’s the benefit of the doubt and will put it down to my stomach being unable to process that kind of food and not being used to it, the effects didn’t last long and after a couple of hours went away, I really don’t think it was anything to do with the quality of the food and will not mark Cactus Jack’s down for it. Overall we had a wonderful last meal in Temple before we left and for anyone wanting a good steak I would heartily recommend Cactus Jack’s

I don’t understand the other review. My wife and I have been here several times and the food has always been very good. We’ve had steak, tuna steak, salads, and many other things and all have been good. We were disapointed once and when I let the manager know, he gave us a gift certificate to come again. My wife and I did and that was another great meal. I look forward to going again.
