Studio Movie Grill

Attended a movie here recently. At the bar the bartender could not make the same drink consistently. He could not remember what we had ordered. In the movie theater the food is horrible. Need to change the menu to something besides fried barfood. The drinks that were ordered and delivered were horrible also. Example, the soda water was flat in the drinks, ordered a double and got a single. Then the bill came. No one ever came to pick up our money. Upon leaving there was no support staff to be found in the theater. Had to pay our bill at the front desk where tickets are purchased.
There’s a management problem at this location. I would not recommend eating the food at this location.

Wow I am very impressed, the staff, the ambiance, the whole set up is nice. The reclining chairs great. The Manger Amy Z. is awesome!!!

Have you ever seen the movie Wall — E? At the ending of the movie all the humans are living in motorized chairs and the robots go and fetch their every whim! This was my first time to the Studio Movie Grill and that scene kept flashing through my mind the whole time we were there. I was the immobilized human and our poor waiter was Eve — the robot!
I LOVE going out to eat! I like be the ambiance, lighting, conversation, and the experience. All of that is zapped out of life at an eatery that feeds you while you sit at a screen at watch a movie. Well life sent us a curve ball and we were in a predicament that we were short on time and needed to be fed and entertained at the same time.
The hubby desperately wanted to see Reverent when it came out and we were starving and only had a couple hours before the kiddos needed to be picked up.
After we walked in I was impressed at how nice the interior was and I couldn’t stops snickering as the Wall E scene played through my head. We started with some chips and queso. I know it’s shocking the queso addict ordering queso. It was ok, not horrible.
I then had the Grilled California chicken club. That was suburb with tender plump chicken. I subbed sweet potato fries that were really good!
The hubby had the meat eater pizza and that was excellent.
So over all the food was good, the service was extremely excellent. It was a fun experience!

The service was sweet and kind. A bit slow on the drink refills. The food was ok. The experience was awesome. The chairs very comfy. Very clean place. A Happy memory for our entire family.

This is the best movie experience that I have ever been to hands down! How can you go wrong with dinner and a movie in one location? I have been coming to Studio Movie Grill since they opened in the Summer. Everything here is very modern and contemporary. The menu has great food selections and is restaurant quality. The theater seats are leather and the first 4 rows recline with a foot rest, super comfy.
When purchasing my tickets I usually order them in advance online because you can reserve your seats. Yes thats right you don’t have to worry about getting there an hour early (especially on the weekends) and twiddle your thumbs waiting for the movie to start. I can get there right when the movie starts and have my seats waiting for me! I always make sure to bring a blanket with me because it can get super chilly in there.
The menu has a variety of selections from asian, tex-​mex, and american food. So there is something there for everyone. I’ve had the:
Civiche Lettuce Wraps, it has fresh jumbo shrimp and mahi-​mahi with a citrus marinate, mixed with jicama slaw and mango salsa. 5 stars! The ingredients are extremely fresh and the lettuce that is comes with is extra crunchy and refreshing. I love how the citrus flavors compliment the shrimp and fish.
Popcorn was way too salty! I got a generous portion so I wish they could have cut back on the salt. Then again most theater popcorn is too salty for me. So I don’t know if its just me but I wouldn’t order this again. Luckily they were nice enough to take it back for me.
Coconut Chicken Tenders are also one of my favorites. They are Chicken tenders (white meat) with hand-​breaded panko breadcrumbs and coconut flakes with honey mustard or thai chile sauce. I prefer the thai chile sauce it goes better with the coconut flavor. It is perfectly breaded and crunchy. Not too greasy either for something thats fried. I also upgraded to seasonal fruit on the side for $ 1 instead of fries. The fruit was a mix of pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew, and strawberry. Tasted super fresh not frozen.
The Margherita Pizza is a thin-​crust dough with tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, parmesan cheese and fresh basil. This is so yummy! Its more like a flatbread than a pizza. Again the ingredients are fresh and tasted like they made it in house not frozen like other movie theaters. I love the fresh basil and the crust was perfectly crisp.
Finally desert Beignets for the desert is a must! It is a deep fried pasty (like a donut hole) filled with Nutella and sprinkled with powdered sugar. It is a warm doughy treat. I also order a scoop of vanilla ice cream with it. Perfect pairing to the warm desert treat.
They do offer a $ 25 meal combo that comes with a selection of 1 appetizer and 2 entrees. Extra $ 5 for dessert. This is plenty for 2 people. We usually end up asking for a box for the leftovers. Ordering is so easy because the come to you. All you have to do is push a button located on the side of your seat and they will come! Service is excellent and again food quality is excellent! This is also the cleanest facility I’ve been to. The Colony location is my go to place because I went to the Dallas location and it was a complete 180, horrible service and dirty at that theater. SO not all Studio Movie Grill locations are the same. The Colony is by far the best one!

Great place to watch a movie. Comfy chairs, food and drinks pretty good. A little pricey and service a little slow but to be able to have a drink and some decent food while watching a movie in a comfy chair is great

First experience here, and it was awesome. They had 24oz. Pabst in a can. I was in heaven! My wife and I had the meat lovers pizza and mac and cheese. I substituted the chicken for double cheese on the pizza just because of past experience with chicken on pizza at other places — it gets too dry. The sausage on the pizza was tasty and plentiful, and the fried green beans appetizer was excellent. The mac and cheese was good, but it needed to be cheesier. The thing is, it had all the makings of greatness including al dente pasta, bacon chunks, and two thick slices of garlic bread. Maybe a little tweaking on the recipe is in order to get it to perfection.
The boys loved their burgers and fries and the service was really good. Price-​wise, the cost of tickets was comparable to other theaters and the food prices were very good. This was a great experience overall. We’ll be coming back again regardless of whether it’s just for a movie, or for dinner as well. The seats alone give it an edge over the other movie theater chains. By the way, the movie we saw was Star Wars — it was awesome, a great character reunion. Wookies never age.

Have visited other Studio Movie Grills and this one has the worst layout design. The rows are so close together the servers have difficulty doing their job. Throughout the movie there is at least one server standing in the way. A very poor design to the seating layout.

Went to go watch Sisters with Amy P. and Tina F.. The movie, just okay, cute but not hilarious. Now let’s move to the grand theatre review…
The only reason I’m not giving this 5 stars is due to crap service. Why does one have to request ranch 3x? Or ask for lemonssss and get one small wedge. TIP TO ALL WAITERS: anyone who asks for lemons always wants several (yes, I’m speaking for all lemon lovers out there). There’s more but I don’t feel like having another rant.
Anywho, the seats are really awesome — great for a nap if you’re not feeling the movie. Food is what you expect (tasty but no foodgasms here). All and all, I would go back!

We took the family here for my sons b-​day and saw Star Wars. Everybody was very friendly, and the service was very quick. The food was not bad but very over priced. Although, you don’t really go for the food. The kids loved the experience!!!

I went last night for the first time for the showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I absolutely loved it! The lady working the bar was fast, friendly, and provided all ’round great service. All of the staff was incredibly friendly!
The food was like Applebee’s quality, but I’m not sure I’ve ever gone to the movies and had food much better than an old hot dog. Seats are comfortable and spacious, bathrooms are spotless, parking is abundant, I love the reserved seating… Just a fantastic experience all around.

I’m a little leery of the future customer service at the newest SMG outpost in The Colony. Let’s face it, SMG has a very poor record of retaining or training good help so I was prepared to be neglected. Dare I say the young staff was enthusiastic and cheery about working here?
I had some initial reservations watching the Mockingjay finale at SMG, but I was relieved and happy that my experience exceeded expectations. Food service was quick, the staff was attentive and polite.
One thing I noted with this location is that they offer the new power recliners (including ample walking/​reclining room) that is absent at the Northwest Highway flagship (at least at the time of this writing). So as far as seating goes, SMG is now competing in the same league as iPic, Look Cinemas, and the AMC Cinema Suites.
Menu still tends toward bar fare, appetizers and food designed for mindless munching while you watch movies, easier on the wallet than the dining options at the upscale dine in movie theaters.
I have to say that SMG did a great job recycling the space formerly tenanted by Best Buy and a dine in theater is a great addition to the multiple retail projects that are popping up and bringing traffic to the Colony.

Let me just say, I never want to see a movie anywhere but Studio Movie Grill ever again!
For the longest time, I’ve been weary of visiting one of these because they’re always on Groupon which made me wonder why since I’ve been burned by those deals before. I’m not sure if all the locations are set up like this one was but I loved having the opportunity to select my seats in the theater in advance of entering. It always gives me mild anxiety when I’m going to a popular movie and feel like I have to be there 45 minutes early so I don’t end up in the front row with a neck sprain.
All the seats in the theater were plush leather chairs and they all had the flip tables so you could order food and beverages throughout the movie. I love that you don’t have to stand at a second line for concessions because they have a bar and restaurant set up and you can be served before or during your movie.
Only the front section seats reclined– maybe this makes sitting there less awful? The seats are so comfortable my fiancé actually fell asleep during the movie. I have a feeling he’s not the only one who does that as I observed other people bringing blankets in with them. Hey, at least you can make the best of a bad movie with a good nap!
What stood out most to me about this theater and why I’ve become obsessed with going back is the level of service we received. Everyone was very attentive to every aspect of customer service. This was further evident when visiting the restrooms and it didn’t look like a tornado had ripped through there. We didn’t even have to keep an eye on the start time for our movie. The girl working there said we could hang out in the lounge area and she would come find us when it was time to enter the theater! Now that’s special– and I love being treated like I’m special!
I can’t wait to return! Anyone want to join me? :)

Bye, bye Best Buy, hello trendy SMG. This was such a great use of what was once Best Buy. You can’t tell at all… the interior is new and somehow manages to be both small and spacious. There are plenty of lounging booths/​areas in the «lobby» for people to hang out. The theater room itself was small but it worked.
It’s been awhile since I’ve been to SMG… seems they are taking a new approach… no more high back rolling chairs; these have been replaced with more standardized and stationary leather/​faux leather recliners (that don’t really recline); each with its own swivel tray table that swings out (opening on the left side). The tray tables are slender, providing just enough room for a plate or two. Due to the more singular design of the seats and accompanying tables, if you order a dish to share, be prepared for either awkwardness, splitting onto two separate plates, or swapping the dish back and forth. I wish the tables opened from the right side because most people are right handed and it might be easier to maneuver about in the dark/​more comfortable; I found myself eating with my left hand… which, though my father taught me to, I still don’t prefer. But I do appreciate the built in cup holder on each table, subsequently greatly reducing the likelihood of an accident. And, hat tip for not installing carpet in the theater.
The numbering of each seat is tricky… a couple of us were confused as to which number seat we were sitting in… it appears that the number on your left chair leg is the number of your seat. An employee on our row delivering drinks outright refused to help a group of us figure out the numbering, stating, «Ummm, I’m gone, you guys figure it out!» Another let down was having to ask for refills more than once, and yet they still never came. Food was wasn’t the best — coconut tenders were over fried. French fries won 1^st place, chicken nachos took 2^nd place, and this brownie/​ice cream dessert came in 3^rd. All in all, good experience/​fan.

Inconsistencies — movie starts at 1:45, front cashier — tells me they’ll seat at 1:00, employee at theater entry tells us 1:20pm, then at 1:20 she tells us 1:30…I know you choose your seats at POS. I prefer to order and get my food before the movie starts.

I have been to other theaters with this concept but this was my first Studio Movie Grill experience. I wasn’t sure what to expect except that this place is fairly new and in a location that used to be a Best Buy. It was a weeknight showing, so I was able to walk right up and get my ticket no problem. You can also reserve tickets for others to pay when they arrive, which is good if your group is not all arriving together.
The interior is nice and new and the chairs were really comfortable and new as well. The functions of reclining and adding a footrest were smooth and easy to use. The tray table was a decent size and the servers had a great balance of checking in, but not too much to ruin the movie experience. I did note eat here but the menu looked good and the drink specials were good. I did have a drink and it was strong. Kudos for the great experience!

I was a visitor at this location while my «home» SMG is being remodeled. The basic theater was great, although the individual theater numbers need to be illuminated so patrons can find «their» theater. The seats were comfortable but the TRAY TABLES WERE WAY TOO CLOSE. My companion and I are both about ten pounds overweight and we could not make the tables parallel to the backs of our seats. Pregnant women will have a huge problem with those tray tables, I imagine.
The bathrooms were all the way across the theater, in another row of theaters. Way too far away. The server failed to point out the non-​obvious location of the call buttons.
The pre-​movie lobby seating was great. The acoustics in the theater was great. The chairs in the theater were comfortable.
I am very sad to think that my beloved SMG, nearer home, will have those same too-​close tray tables.

I don’t know why there are so many negative reviews I thought this location was great! (Really?! You don’t like the tray your food sat on??? Your chair was too stiff from brand new leather??! Please get some real problems.)
I’ve been to several SMG’s and this one, by far, was the cleanest and had the most friendly staff. We were able to walk in and buy our tickets without a line, our food and drinks were served quickly ($ 5 glasses of wine on Sunday, folks!) and got great seats to choose from. I had the Coconut Chicken Strips and my friend had the Mac & Cheese… neither of us had any complaints and thought it was really good!

This location had the best quality food i’ve ever experienced within all the other locations in the past, the décor is designed exactly like the newly innovated Spring Valley location, nothing amazing but definitely better than the old studio movie grills haha
The seats were nice and spacious, although it didn’t lean back at all which is what made it uncomfortable, the food tray was way too close to the seat so you almost have to push it out to make room for your arms lol, feels like it was made for kids.
I wish they would space out the rows of seats a little bit more (height wise) so that when the waiters walk to serve the rows in front of you it won’t be as distracting.
I will give them credit for the customer service though, they opened the door for us and greeted us kindly, very welcoming staff.

Definitely excited for the new SMG location located off 121 in The Colony. This area is growing rapidly by the minute. I am pleased with this location since it’s a fairly short commute from home. We were told they recently opened end of July. We decided to check out the new theater and purchased two tickets to see Ant Man which I highly recommend. Movie was better than the commercial in my opinion.
Adult ticket is about $ 9 and $ 7 for student. We were told they do not accept the Groupon deal at this particular location so keep that in mind before arriving. The seats are upgraded to recliner chairs which is a very nice addition. We picked the middle aisle seats but realized it was a bit further away from the screen. Perhaps our theater was one of the smaller rooms which explained why our TV screen was a bit smaller. However, we asked to change our seats to the second row from the screen. I definitely recommend selecting the second and third row. It may look as if it’s too close to the screen but as your chair reclines back, it’s a perfect view. Seats were so comfortable we struggled to get up and leave towards the end of the movie.
Service was great; inside is clean and modern. Let’s hope it stays this way for infinite. I would definitely return to this location!
