Great place with a cool history! Prices for food were a little higher than I expected but still very reasonable. Hey, it’s not every day that you eat in a place that’s been open for 140 years! Go check ‘em out!

Been here three times and the food is always consistent and amazing! The apple pie is just as spectacular and the rock shrimp Alfredo is out of this world! Will always stop by for a bite to eat when I’m in the area!

Baldwin saloon might be the best restaurant in The Dalles. The atmosphere is great(it used to be a brothel!) the food is fantastic. The original oil paintings are beautiful and if you go on the weekend they have great live piano music. Highly recommended.

Had a «French» Reuben, which means that they cut out the marble rye(and maybe make the meat drier). I also had a coffee which was local and DELICIOUS. The coffee and the fact that the bread would probably be tasty on something else, makes this place okay!

Food is good, nice historical salon atmosphere. Get there early because it got busy after 6pm. The only issue I have they do not accept American Express.

Meh. I am so sadly disappointed. After doing my Unilocal homework, I already knew what I wanted to order before we parked the car. It would be the infamous French onion soup and the stuffed mushrooms for me! My Mom-in-law had the soup with the half ceasar salad. The manfolk opted for the Santa Fe burger with potato salad. Our soup arrived and looked amazing. They have a complimentary loaf of homemade bread(yummy). I had a few small bites as my soup cooled. Uh oh. We have a problem. I like salt. Like, I really like salt. With that being said, this was VERY salty. I knew that if I thought it was too salty, Mom would probably be hating it. I asked, already knowing the answer. She ate three bites and pushed it away. I tried to eat it all, to no avail. I was still optimistic about my shrooms and Moms salad. The rest of our food arrived 15 minutes later or so. Moms salad was basic, which is understandable. It’s lettuce, salad, cheese and croutons. My order consisted of four very large mushrooms, that were supposed to have artichoke hearts, bread crumbs and delicious spices and flavors. There was«stuffing» but the only flavor they had was bad. I’m not sure how to describe bland and tasteless to ick, what did I just eat? The manfolk was happy with his burger, hence the three stars, and the waitress was nice. I appreciate the history and beauty of the building and maybe I just hit the place on a bad day. I don’t think I’d try it the next time we’re passing through.

It was a Tuesday night around seven and I was dining by myself so I bellied up to the bar only to be told they were too busy to serve me at the bar? They told me I was welcome to sit at a table! Wast a 2 top on a party of one, no thank you. The building is very charming and the paintings are wonderful.

Great home made bread and buns on burgers, like the Bonnie’s and Charlie’s! Good wines(I tried most of them)! Great home made salad dressing — vinaigrette! We will come here again. Now we are going to have the Carrot Cake and Walnut Tarts for dessert! YUMMM

They ply you with alcohol, and they dare to serve you amazing orgasmic food that will make your mouth water like Pavlov’s dog. At the end of it all they ask«would you like to see the dessert menu?»” Do I look stupid, of course”, Look only for the triple chocolate(put you in a coma) decadence, and prepare for an overload of mind blowing yum… pay your bill and roll yourself out. unique décor, service is great. Fantastic experience. .

Bar food and burgers were good. Local beer selection is good and reasonable at $ 4.50 a pint. Food came out quickly and server was friendly. Onion soup was good but a bit too salty for my taste. Cool saloon décor and lots of paintings of naked ladies in the bar area ;)

Well it was a nice place, somewhat eclectic with old oil paintings on the walls. The family had chicken scalopini, burgers, and I had the whole hog sandwich. My sandwich was clearly 4 star. large on homemade bread. The remainder of the family doled out 3 stars…

Pretty amazing place. Great food and home made bread. Not cheap but not spendy. I got the whole hog. Ham and cheese and my coworker got a salad. Both looked and tasted very good. Definitely will come back.

OK food and service. Rather heavy use of sauces and minimal use of veg. Service felt rushed.

The good: 1. The french onion soup was GREAT! Worth the stop just for that. 2. The other bar food was tasty as well– good charbroiled burger The bad: 1. Not the most exciting town. The verdict: Stop for the soup if you’re going through town.

Went out of our way just get have one of their wonderful Carb Melt sandwich only to be totally disgusted that they wanted over $ 18. for one now. Not sure how much it was a year or so ago but I know it wasn’t anywhere near $ 18. Needless to say we skipped the Crab Melt sandwiches we had craved since our last visit here. Instead we ordered their Bleu Bird — Sliced turkey breast and melted Tillamook cheddar cheese on our grilled bleu cheese bread with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise for 11.95. The bread was dry, over toasted and started falling apart as soon as I picked it up. For the price the rest of the sandwich was nothing to speak of with little turkey or cheese on it. This was our 4th visit here and probably our last. There are too many restaurants nearby that serve great food without charging a fortune for a small sandwich made with dried out bread.

I am pretty new to The Dalles and have been told that this is THE place to go eat. I have been twice and… I don’t get it. Both times have been very disappointing. The food has not been good. Not even close in my opinion. On both occasions we ordered the calamari. The first time I just didn’t like it, the most recent time it was inedible. The garlic was so overpowering that one bite was all I could handle. My boyfriend refuses to waste food and will eat just about anything… and he even couldn’t handle it. We didn’t send it back, but we certainly should have. I had the Bleu Bird sandwich. It was okay once I scrapped off about 3 tablespoons of mayo. My boyfriend had the seafood linguine. The seafood tasted old. Not like it had gone bad… just not at all fresh. They do not skimp on the seafood though. There was A LOT of it in the pasta. However, I would rather have less fresher seafood than lots of low quality(maybe prior frozen?) seafood. It just wasn’t good. Maybe I have just had bad luck and I’m just missing the mark because people really seem to like this place. We had to wait about 15 minutes to get a table on Friday night. The place was packed! I’ll try it again, because my options in TD are pretty limited and I feel like by my third visit… something should go right, right? It is only fair to note that the service has always been great. No complaints in that department. That’s a job well done.

We were staying near Mt. Hood and took a drive over to The Dalles one day. It was so strange to go from constant rainy weather on one side of Mt. Hood to the other where it’s practically dry year-round! Anyway, after checking out Unilocal,it didn’t look like there were a whole lot of options in the quaint little town of The Dalles for non-chain restaurants that sounded appealing. The Baldwin Saloon did, though, and it was an excellent choice. It’s in an historic building with wooden floors, high ceilings, tall booths, and lots of windows. For lunch, I tried the Bleu Bird sandwich(sliced turkey breast and melted tillamook cheddar cheese on grilled bleu cheese bread). Yum! I then had multiple side item options(which I love). One of them was a Caesar salad; it was HUGE. We definitely got our money’s worth, and loved our meals. The atmosphere was fantastic, too, and our server was super-friendly, speedy, and efficient. There wasn’t a heck of a lot to see in The Dalles for tourists, but Baldwin Saloon made for a nice pitstop. It felt like a warm, friendly diner.
