New West Symphony

This is a great Saturday night out. We parked at the lakes and had a great dinner at Umami Burger. Then simply walked over for the performance. The musicians were professional and on a world class level. Program was eclectic and should please different tastes. Just as an example they performed Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A Minor then mixed it up with a Villa-​Lobos Brazilian piece, ending with Bernsteins West side story symphonic dances.

Today i went to New West Symphony opening night at Oxnard performing art center. Everything, the weather, the box office, the orchestra, the conductor and SARAH CHANG’s performance, was perfect.
The weather was perfect. During driving on PCH, the wind from the sea was little bit strong. i was really afraid that it was cold. But the weather of Oxnard was perfect. breezy, warm, fresh… i love it.
The box office staffs were very gentle. My daughter bought tickets online. When arriving at the will call in order to take our tickets, we noticed that some mistakes have happened. There was one old gentleman worked there. After listening all the story, he gave us our tickets with upgrade. It was way better. What a lucky we were. Actually we drove 2 hours from Arcadia. If he said no, we should come back home for nothing.
The next amazing thing was the orchestra. I have never expected this orchestra is great because the City of Oxnard is small town and the stage is very small. However, the orchestra and the conductor, Marcelo Lehninger, were amazing. Especially, the conductor interpreted so well and made music so delicious. I felt like this city is blessed from heaven.
The last. Today’s highlight was Sarah Chang. She was amazing as we have known. Today she played Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 in G Minor, Opus 26. This is one of my favorite. Her performance was so beautiful, romantic and impeccable. How blessed she is. We were also blessed tonight because of her. During the intermission, she was signing on her CD. She is very friendly. Even though being busy, she posed for us with smile to take pictures. We enjoy so much and returned to home with joy.

If you’re local to the Conejo Valley, the New West Symphony is a must! New West brings world class musicians right to your backyard, leaving the hassle of driving into the city behind.
The first performance I saw highlighted the music within several of my favorite movies and after that I was hooked. I attended two additional performances this season and can’t wait for the season to begin again in the fall. There isn’t a bad seat in the house; even the upper balconies offer great views of the musicians as they play.
If you’ve never been to a symphony concert, or are an avid fan of classical music, the New West is a must!

If you love classical music or just want to check out a symphony orchestra for the first time, New West Symphony is the perfect place.
I went to the New West on the recommendation of a few close friends, and I will definitely be back. We went at the last minute and got discount tickets right before the show started. My favorite part was the «informance» — Right before the show, you can attend a quick presentation about the history of each piece and its composer. It was cool to be able to relate to the music on a different level.
Bottom line: New West Symphony is a professional, first-​rate symphony with a close-​knit community feel. All in all, this is a great way to spend a Saturday night!
