Food was decent but what turned me off was the bar. When I went to drink my beer I got a very strong metallic taste off the rim of the glass. The taste upset my stomach instantly. This happened 2 more times. I just learned its how the beer was poured. An easy fix. The rim of the glass should not touch the dispenser. Phew! I thought someone was altering my drink.

The mermaid dining experience was way better the first few times we came here over 6 months to a year ago. Not sure if the management or chef changed but the menu did. The place used to be more of a «gastro pub style» and now its more of a bar with expensive food. The dining area right off the bar had a smell of smoke from the booth we were first sat at. I noticed someone closed down their air vents above the booths for some reason. Maybe the intakes for the A/Cs are next to the smoking area? No idea but we asked to move and they said no problem. Further away from the bar the smoke wasn’t as noticeable. We probably won’t be back to this place with so many other choices around. I heard they are changing it to a Tilted Kilt franchise.

First time here. For a basic pub atmoshere its fairly good. The food is good a bit high in price but not outrages. They have music at 8:00 wich load but not overpowering. Staff very friendly and managment is very visible and approachable. The clientel seems at bit older than most places which suits us. We will be back.

Didn’t honor the Unilocal check in discount offer… Not a great start. Located just South of Moorpark Road on Thousand Oaks Blvd, this looks to be a great local pub. It has a local pub vibe although I have never been in during the evening. I came for lunch with the in-laws, I checked in on Unilocal and got a 50% discount check in offer for a second lunch. I showed my phone to the pretty waitress who new nothing of it and said she was ask the manager. Well that was the last we heard of the special offer and we pad the full bill, even after a reminder. The food was good, and a good selection of choices. There appears to be wifi and lots of dudes watching the horse racing on several large TV’s. I had fish and chips that were actually quite good. Would have given them 4 stars had the check in offer been honored. Service was good. This is an OK spot for a pub lunch, give it a shot.

I was in the area and have never been to the Mermaid Tavern before, so I wanted to give it a try. I’ve heard mixed reviews: about how«it’s really cool on karaōke nights»…or «I heard the owner might be in danger of closing», etc. I wanted to know for myself. Anyway, I came here on a Thursday evening around 7pm. The place was empty, except for 2 old men at the bar sitting next to each other. I looked at the website beforehand, and it’s supposedly«Ladies Night!» starting at 6pm. Well, the only ladies there were myself and two other hostesses folding roll-ups in one of the booths. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar, and ordered a shot of Patron. The bartender searched around the bar only to report back that she was«out of Patron». Out of Patron?! On a Thursday night?! With the whole weekend ahead? I hope for their sake they have a large shipment coming in the next morning. So, on to the next drink to order… Jaeger. The bartender holds up the only bottle in the bar, revealing about an inch of it left. She could only make one shot for us… lame. So on to a third back up option. We didn’t order any food, so I cannot speak to that. The karaōke crew was just arriving and setting up as we were taking off. But by 8:30, there were still only like 10 people total in the whole place. And it’s a pretty large establishment, so it just looked awkward and empty. Overall, I wasn’t very impressed by the whole deal. Even in Thousand Oaks, I know of plenty of other locations and bars that have more patrons and more exciting things happening at any given time. The Tavern wasn’t a horrible experience, but, as the rating says, «Meh. I’ve experienced better.» ;)

Ok the food is not that good & over priced for example an appetizer of flat bread pepperoni pizza cost $ 12& is tiny you should get a small 2 topping pizza for $ 12 bucks I thought appetizer was like a $ 6 item at most establishments guess the need to double the price because nobody’s buying food. There is tons of horse race enthusiasts in the back screaming obscenities at the 12TV monitors in the off track race book F bombs by the dozen bring ear muffs for the kids. On the upscale they do have a decent beer selection but be prepared to pay $ 8 a pint $ 20 for a Growler no shit All in all I give the food a 2 of 10. The manager is a horndog & only hires girls with big jugs & small ass I enjoyed his choices in waitress talent. All nice big jugs made me want to shoot a load of clam chowder. I didn’t see any duck tacos but I had a mushroom turnover in my pants

This is my first time posting but i had to warn everyone everyone about this place my good friend and i Ordered the Avocado Tempura and we both said it tasted like deep fried carnival food. My friend ordered the vegetable lettuce wraps and it was small, cold, and looked like baby food. The place was so noisy, we couldn’t hear each other and our waitress was rude when we asked for separate checks(like that’s an unusual request?). I would not go back here. Honestly, there are plenty of other bars that have a good selection of beer. Go somewhere else.

Came here a while back for a newly-promoted friend’s celebratory group dinner with a group of 8. We ordered some drinks appetizers while we were waiting; short rib sliders, onion tumbleweed, wings, and calamari. Appetizers came out pretty fast and were decent, though a bit greasy. At that time, they were offering a cheap beer sampler if you check in on Unilocal, which was awesome because you get to pick what you want to sample. They borderline didn’t accept it because the guy who put it up on Unilocal either wasn’t there at the time or no longer worked there, so they had to check with management to see if it was OK to honor the ad they placed on Unilocal. When we came, I guess it was live music night(I think it was a Friday). Music was LOUD, so we couldn’t hear each other. Wasn’t a fan of the group that performed(country/rock/loudish music), but a lot of the crowd(a bit older) seemed to be really into it. Service kind of slowed down at this point. We were waiting a while for our server to come back, but had difficulties in flagging one down because it was SO loud. We finally placed our order in. My friend and I split the fish and chips, but the noise level here required me to YELL my order multiple times until he finally got it. When it came, it was less than mediocre; bland and tasteless. Between the two of us, we didn’t even finish the plate. We all sat around for a while after eating while waiting for the bill, which took FOREVER to come. We even had to step outside, just to have conversation with each other. Probably wouldn’t come back in hopes for better places to celebrate with friends in the TO area! BONUS: My car wouldn’t start when I was here. While my friend and I were waiting for the tow truck to come, we see a cop pull in super fast, slam on his brakes, and start yelling at some belligerent man to get on the floor(who just stumbled out of The Mermaid Tavern). Before we knew it, there were a bunch of firetrucks, cops, and ambulances that were blocking the entrance to the center and I couldn’t leave!

The girls, the Girls, the girls man. That’s what this place is all about. The food was not as good as the girls. She lived and she died and in between she went to the tavern. I had the the mushroom turnover. grab me coat Grabbed me hat Grabbed the bus in seconds flat… Come to the joint where the girls actually get in. Grab a duck taco, come its your birthday, and it’s my birthday too, yeah. The long and winding road down Muholland will make you get back to the place you once belong, the TAV.

This review is about few months ago… Anyway… I brought my whole family here n let’s just say … The service needed work!!! We have a waitress… Then the food drop off people then the we never see our waitress n so we tell the food drop off people what is missing(like half of our order) then the waitress n the food drop off people .they both bring what was missing… now we have twice as much as we ordered… Basically … They need to know how to work as a team n communicate!!! And with all of this crazy mix up the management never came up and apologize !!! Never give us a complimentary meal. With my whole family we were a party of 10!!! Food was eh … They got half of our orders wrong like… No mayo n no tomato in the ahi sandwich(just an example for one of the ten orders) so I’ve not been back since this experience! Would u ever go back with my crazy embarrassing story? The thing I didn’t mention is that I Begged my family to go the mermaid Tavern because of the fact that its new n different n I love anything mermaids. Then as I bring my family n get bad/weird service … Um… Yea .that’s that!

While in Thousand Oaks last week, we randomly selected this restaurant for a Happy Hour visit before heading to the nearby Cabrillo Music Theatre for an event. Deb went with the house red wine, while I ordered a Belvedere vodka martini. I politely commented that my martini wasn’t full to the brim, so the next one was so full that I had to slurp it out of the glass. I appreciated that. Happy Hour food prices are very generous as long as you purchase a regularly-priced cocktail. We shared two fish tacos($ 3), a burger with fries($ 3), and Buffalo Chicken wrap with a side Caesar salad($ 11). We really enjoyed the food & drink, but a special shout-out goes to our server, Amy, who provided us with top notch treatment during our visit. As we were leaving, we mentioned to Amy that we were heading to see Legally Blonde, The Musical and she advised that the crew was hosting a party immediately following the performance and she encouraged us to return. We took her suggestion to heart and decided to have one more round of drinks while we spoke to cast & crew members about their experiences. A really nice evening.

Decent place, more geared towards social gatherings than serious dining. The beer and small plates beat the entrees in quality and creativity. Sliders and empanadas made me happy. The $ 1 taco special is not all that. Pass. T.O. Blvd is full of Mexican markets offering fuller flavor for a buck. Their bowl of chili was too sweet and lacked the smoky punch I’d expected. Herb chicken was a solid entrée, though Mermaid tried to be too clever with the plating. They stacked everything on top of my mashed potatoes. Chicken and veggie juice dripped down forming a diluted gravy of tasteless liquid. C’mon guys, who does that? Side dishes should be on the side. Service has been wonderful for lunch and dinner. I hope this place does well because our neighborhood could use more social areas.

delicious! my boyfriend and I wanted to try a new restaurant and we can’t believe we hadn’t found this one yet. We’re thrilled we tried it and loved the food. i had a salad with spinach and nuts that was delicious and my boyfriend had a burger with guacamole on it that he said was cooked to perfection. we also did the beer sampler(the main reason we chose to come) and were pleased. theres quite an extensive selection of beers to try. The waitress was extremely friendly and attentive, and she knew some info on the beers which was helpful. we came on a weeknight for dinner so it was quiet inside, but we’d like to come back on a friday or weekend, or for happy hour. the bar looks really fun. overall, a great experience, we will definitely be coming back to try more of the beer and get a filling delicious meal!

I come to mermaid tavern every Tuesday for trivia. I love trivia and I highly recommend it, however I would come not expecting much out of the service. I come every week and the service is HORRIBLE. They seem to be under staffed and the staff they have is forgetful and unattentive. They are nice but just seem to be subpar in the service department. The food is good — nothing outstanding that would make up for the horrible service. The breathe of fresh a server named Boss. He realized how bad the service was and tried to make up for it. This place is not busy, there is no excuse. I have lived on Thousand Oaks my whole life and there are so many excellent choices for eateries. Unfortunately I don’t see this one making it unless they step it up in this town. Sorry about the bad review wish it was different.

The food and beer is quite good! My husband had the jalapeño burger special and loved it. I ordered the mixed salad and it was quite tasty(but small for $ 10). But I’m a vegetarian and, although the menu listed out many ingredients in the salad, it didn’t say that it included chicken. So if you have a specific food preference or allergy, be sure to check with your waiter before ordering! The menu is not comprehensive(even on main components).

Not too shabby! Review is for the bar only. Came here on a Friday night after eating dinner and there had been a live band playing, which was fun! Definitely nice to people watch, older couple dancing and acting like it was 1999! The owner or manager, not sure but was very nice. I was honest and asked if there was an option to take a booth though we are only ordering drinks and he had no problem. I like the bar– nice area but it was strangely wide opened when we walked it. I think because the bar seating was full, they should have some taller tables and chairs close by. But I can understand with the set up it’s in a area where people might wait or possibily have dancing? Not sure as we didn’t stay too late into the night. Our waitress was nice but a little forgetful as she didn’t write down our drink orders and forgot. Overall, a nice night to just grab a bit and hangout. The décor made it seem like a place to an older crowd, but still it was a nice change.

Busy as ever, this place was surprisingly nice inside(as compared to its predecessor, Roxy’s). I thought the food was really tasty; I had the burger and our table ordered a few of the appetizer items. There was a band this particular Friday night which made for good people-watching. The staff was super friendly as well; we’ll definitely be back!

This place used to be Roxy’s and we ate there often. We have been waiting for the Mermaid Tavern to open. My wife and I went for lunch and were happy with the menu choices and prices. The service was great. I was surprised to see the great selection of beers. I will have to come back on a weekend and give those a try!
