When you are up high on a mountain and feel like sending out a postcard to family about your visit to the Kings Canyon Sequoia National Forrest, there is inky one place to stop. You guessed it, the Kaweah Post Office just North of the General Sherman Tree. This location must have the cheapest postage in California at 29 cent postage to mail postcards. It was so inexpensive that it was around 50 cents to buy and mail a postcard. You can’t beat that when it costs as much just to mail some paper in an envelope from home. If your extra nice they will use a special postage canceller for maximum tourist effect. Apparently it’s still snow season as it was still coming down Memorial weekend and sone walkways were blocked. They did a nice job of clearing a path though. My favorite part was the complaint department, see the photo.

I stopped to check out this old fashioned post office because it is a California Historic Landmark(number 389). No one was around, but this post office is apparently still being used. It offers a little side trip if you’re interested in local history.
