For the record, I don’t consider myself to be a «foodie». I hate that word by the way… it sounds snooty. I’m just a big simple country boy that enjoys to eat out from time to time. Los Compadres is not a place that I’m eager to come back to. It’s not a bad restaurant but I’ve had better. The setup and décor reminds me of an old San Diego restaurant that I wrote a review about back in 2011 named The Alamo( ). Very Mexican looking complete with Mariachi music and television shows playing. Felt like I was right back in Tijuana. Only thing missing is the Mariachi band in their cowboy-looking attire. The staff were all Mexican too so this is an authentic Mexican food joint. After arriving, I was greeted with some free chips and slightly spicy salsa. Sweet! I ordered the shrimp chimachanga with rice, refried beans, and a huge glop of guacamole and sour cream. The food wasn’t bad but it didn’t «WOW» me neither. For the price of about $ 13 it was decent especially in regards to the portion sizes. The wait staff were good at their jobs and the waitress that I had did check on me frequently. Overall I’d say three stars. I may come back to check out the rest of the menu but only if I am already in the area.

Service was slow and somewhat poor. Food was average or just below. We were just passing through. Would not stop in again. Sometimes you get lucky with roadside Mexican. This time not so much…

We stopped here just traveling through. My husband had the carne asada tacos. I had the arroz con pollo. I loved the carne asada and wished I ordered it for myself. Service was great.

I’ve definitely had better(Americanized) Mexican food, and I’ve also had worse — but more of the former, less of the latter. My chile relleno definitely lacked something to be desired — mostly chile. It was more a pile of goo with almost no poblano incorporated. The rice and beans were fine, and the taco tasted like literally every other taco I’ve ever had at similar places. I did like their salsa, though — it has a nice kick. Service was fine, and the restaurant’s not crappy looking — just brightly colored and cheesy. I didn’t really dig it, though, and probably wouldn’t go back.
