We used to come here… no more. owners or management have changed… walked in tonight .no customers.. to see the one waitress and the cook at the bar. they were surprised to have someone walk in… she finally started to come over and I said Never mind. they said ok. We were there Saturday also and the waitress acted upset that we were there… only customers again! The food used to be great… we won’t be back… Bummer!

I work nearby and pick up lunch from here occasionally. I like the flavors, and it’s very affordable 4 dollars for 1 enchilada beans, rice, chips and salsa. The food is pretty good, but I had to take off at least one star because the last time I ate here there was a fish hook sized bone in my chicken enchilada. A couple changes: 1.) now closed Monday and Tuesday 2.) no longer give you chips and salsa 3.) portions seem to be smaller

The food is more Mexican-Asian fusion than real Mexican food. Wasabi in the green sauce, soy sauce in the carne asada, store bought chips. My picky husband enjoyed his carne asada burrito so there is some glimmer of hope. Their free dessert is a nice touch.

We visited their old location just up the way before they moved and we loved the food! Finally went to their new location, in Canterbury Square, and we love it! The place is an old pool hall, but so what? The food was so good! It is authentic, its not full of jalapenos and such because the simply prepared ingredients ARE the flavor! Eating at Azabache tonight reminded me of the food prepared my Cuca; simple and full of good natural flavors. If you’re looking for only slightly Americanized, primarily real Mexican food with wonderful flavors of tomato, sweet onions, cilantro, ripe avocados and some amazing iced tea, this is the perfect place! If you prefer Chevy’s or a glorified Taco Bell, well, you might be pleasantly surprised!

I loved the old location and the food. Was sorry to see it close so abruptly. I was delighted to see it re-open in Tigard. The same waitress we had two years ago remembered our orders. I still love the food even though the building is an old pool hall. Great prices also.

Worst Mexican food ever! Filthy, dirty disgusting space. Nothing fresh at all. Everything frozen and warmed up. Avoid at all costs!

I was a frequent visitor of the old location before Felix moved to Gresham and the new manager ran it into the ground. So with the opening of the new location I was excited once I saw the signs go up around town. Asabache is back and ready for business. I have been back three times to give them a fair chance and get the wrinkles ironed out. I was glad to see some of the help returned to the place so there was familiarity with the the menu and customers. Diana is always a cheerful help and she tries very hard. I hate to report things have not improved and the food quality is not back to the better days of Asabache and I concur with the other reviews. The re-fried beans need seasoning, the chips are bland, the water has a funny tastes to it as it sits in plastic pitchers or something. I have ordered the Chile Verde, Pollo a la Crema and Chile Colorado and each dish the meat was bland needing salt and pepper, pork was fatty and the chicken was over done. The atmosphere can be overlooked if the food is great. The brown tarp dividing the dining room from the pool table area could be overlooked, several things could be overlooked but the food is just not up to the standards of the Tigard area Mexican food restaurants. If this place is still open in 2014 I will give it one more try but I am not holding out hope. There are 4 other good choices in the area and the food along with atmosphere is acceptable. Diana and team — get it together please.

I had great expectations based on frequent experience with the previous Asabache. I remembered their Carne Asada with great fondness. Unfortunately, from the get go, the best part of the meal experience was the great service by the young woman who was our server and had only been there two days. She did a terrific job from greeting us immediately, serving chips, salsa, and some refried beans right away. Surprisingly, the chips had very little flavor and the refried beans needed a bit of salt to bring up the flavor. My friend and I decided to split the special which was«Beef Fajitas.» I thought the flavor of the fajitas was fine. The beef was tender enough. The rice that came with the dish had little flavor and was so dry that it was gritty as if it had hardened back into it’s original state. The atmosphere was pretty unusual. I felt like I was seated around the perimeter of a large dark warehouse that was curtained off with tarps. Peering around the tarp curtain, I could see pool tables that appear to be left over from the previous establishment. A lot needs to be done with the décor. If I had a hint of the old Asabache here, I’d give them another shot. But, as it is, there is a lot of competition out there and my budget for eating out is limited. I will not likely take another chance on this restaurant and I’m sorry to say that’s the case. It really was my favorite Mexican restaurant before.

For some reason, this place and its style STILL doesn’t make me stomp my feet and howl at the moon, even though they’ve moved their operation to the old Rialto Poolroom on Pacific 99 and Canterbury. Chips & Salsa are OK but Guac was phoney. Magaritas? MEH!!! Meals for our party of 6 ranged from«OK» to «Lacking». For the life of me, I cannot put my finger on what this place lacks. Service was adequate. Maybe its the old pool table light fixtures hanging low over your head. Like your being interrogated or something!!! «Where were YOU on the night of the 28th??» Bout the best thing going for Azabache is their sharing the parking lot with the new«Harbor Freight and Tools» that JUST opened. The WORST thing going for«The Silver Palace» is sharing its parking lot with Azabache! Honestly, IF I was a Tigard Police Officer I would wish my retirement came BEFORE the gang shootings start at Azabche’s Bar/Poolroom in the back(I’ve been in Cali too much folks). Currently the Bar and Restaurant are seperated by a Harbor Freight type tarp. Someday that may become bullet-proof plexiglas! Maybe by then, that Cop will be retired and Harbor freight might start carrying blue tarp bodybags… Handtrucks optional. Don’t think I’ll be coming here much with Nacho Mamas and El Guajillo up and down the street, and Silver Palace next door. Sorry, thats just my opinion! Oh yeah, my translator says: «Azabache», nm. jet, black coal which can be polished(used for jewelry, etc.); black amber. HMMmm«Lump of Coal»??? Whatever happened to «Toro», «Gato», or even«Del Oro», etc. etc. You know, the cute names based on what might come in your Taco.
