Confiscated my hot tamales! Pretty cheesy for a theater that hasn’t upgraded in the 25 years I’ve visited. They certainly don’t use their concession money on cleaning supplies.

I love Joy cinema! Today was our first time going and we got 3 adult tickets to 3D feature, popcorn, candy & drinks for 2, plus a large diet Coke for under $ 25. I am blown away. I will forever be faithful to a cinema who considers it patrons pockets instead of price gouging. We were happy to find out last show on Wednesdays are FREE for 21+. They play weird tawdry movies. It will be a great date night for us. Looking forward to it.

You truly get what you pay for in this case. This means, if you pay $ 4 to see a movie don’t expect there to be air conditioning in the theater and don’t expect a comfy chair to enjoy the movie in. I often see people bring a pillow to sit on, because yes, they are that uncomfortable. They have cheap beer and some decent carnival food like nachos and pizza slices. all in all I like the place. Hopefully one day they can upgrade the place though because as of now it’s really on it’s way out.

Cheap seats, usually great selection of movies. My husband and I especially love the older movies they often play (recently Predator and Planet of the Apes). Reasonably priced candy (still more expensive then a store but not as expensive as a regular theatre — aka I don’t sneak candy in here like I do Regal. Hi, Regal!). Sometimes the pizza has been sitting around too long (they get it from Tigard Pizza nearby) but that’s really my only complaint. Friendly people working who don’t rush you.
It can be slow to move through the line and the show can start a few minutes late if there are still a lot of people in line, but considering its mom & pop feel, I just don’t mind that. They only play one preview before starting the movie and always ask what we thought of the movie after the show.
Also, compared to some other cheap seat theatres, it’s clean and doesn’t feel dumpy.
We highly recommend this place!

Such a cool little theater. I love that I can take my kids, get popcorn and only spend $ 20. Sure the seats and ambiance is «retro» but at this price I am more than happy. Please check this place out and keep it in business.

Cheap. Clean. Concessions specials. Beer, nachos, wine, pizza, popcorn etc. How can u go wrong??? Plus the owner is amazingly sweet and sincere. Dollar Mondays and weird wensdays if u give this a bad review you are a greedy schmuck.

A fun, funky little one-​screen movie theatre where the tickets are rock-​bottom, there’s hard cider on tap, the staff is cheerful, and the bathrooms are papered with old movie posters.
I noticed some reviewers said the seats weren’t comfortable, but I have back problems and found them just fine. YMMV, of course.

This theater has great prices. If you are there for a 3D movie, it’s only $ 1 more than the 2D version. Other theaters are usually $ 3-​$ 5 extra. The food and drink prices are pretty good too and I like that you can have a draft beer while you watch the movie.
On Wednesday nights they show throwback monster movies for free, you just have to be over 21. They do that so you will come and drink beer while watching the movie. I figure, if I gotta drink beer to watch a free movie, then I am willing to make the sacrifice.
These people are really nice and I have tried to watch my movies there so I can support their business.
Don’t be deceived by the looks outside. This theater is a lot larger than it looks.
I would guesstimate that it holds 300 – 400. If you see a line waiting to get in, don’t worry there will be seats. The line is probably just because the ticket counter is right inside the door so there’s not a lot of room for a line inside.

This place was so fun!!! Carol was so helpful and amazing! The popcorn was yummy and the price was better! Great family outing!

Love going to this theatre. Concessions are priced well and is a cute theme. It’s clean and is an older place but comfortable. They play weird movies and throwbacks. Love the slides before a movie starts.

Love it here! Good fair prices and fun selection in movies. I also appreciate that it’s not some corporate greedy business.

This is one of my all time favorite theaters! It’s a great little cinema with only one screen but a lot of love. For $ 20 my son and I can watch a great movie, get snacks and support local businesses. The hot dogs and pizza are great! It’s not the newest theater around but that’s part of it’s charm. Going to the movies is no longer about just seeing the movie. When we come here it’s an experience!

Five for Value and the special care for the adults that go to movies! Spend all the money you save from another Cinema on snacks and drinks (yay adult beverages!). The movie selection, while second run, does allow loved movies to be watched a few times more for the same cost of a first run movie. This is a great place to take the family out, and there are usually are a lot of families out watching movies at the Joy CInema! Take the entire family and have some snacks and drinks for what you would spend on just two for a movie anywhere else! This is an excellent value for your hard earned money.
I suggest you take advantage of the popcorn tee shirt… It is well worth the cost and lots of free popcorn too!

Perfect place to go on a date or seeing a movie with the family. They have delicious and affordable pizza, popcorn, snacks and treats. Don’t let the crowd fool you, there is plenty of space for everyone. They offer 3D showings, very friendly and clean.
They often have offers through Groupon which is how we checked them out in the first place and we do not regret it at all.

Local, small, and shows second-​run movies. The owners are often there to greet you coming in, and after two or three times, they were calling me by name and welcoming me back.
Most friendly theater I have EVER been in, and has been my favorite theater for a long while now.
«Weird Wednesday» has also been a favorite event that I hope they get back into soon.
One of the «Weird Wednesday» events was a low-​budget modern giant-​spider movie (called «The Giant Spider») and it was introduced by one of the executive producers, and they had copies of the movie you could buy right there if you wanted. Man, it wasn’t just a movie, it was an EVENT and it was a blast!

when it came to this local cinema. I went here some 30 years ago. That’s right, 3 whole decades it took for me to return here even though I actually enjoyed the place back in whatever the hell decade it was. I was underage and they served me beer in clear plastic cups so of course I loved it.
Fast forward to 2014.
When my husband and I decided to catch Anchorman II (no longer playing elsewhere) we were kinda excited about going. Prices are low, new owner was working the counter, help was friendly and they actually had some beer and popcorn. Now, I’m not saying the beer was from 30 years ago because I didn’t have any, but the popcorn might have been :(. However, the candy prices were super reasonable (2 – 3 bucks) and the pizza looked pizza-​ish — on that side it was a good value.
BUTT, there’s times value isn’t everything! That misspelling wasn’t accidental like all my other ones since it was my actual butt that totally did NOT appreciate the beyond worn seats. That really took away from the experience for me.
I want to like it. BUTT, I don’t think my ass will let me come back. Good movie though.

This place is pretty great for a cheap recent run movie and BEER. Tickets are $ 4 (or $ 5 for 3D) and Mondays are even more of a swingin’ deal at $ 1 (or $ 2 for 3D). Regal can’t compete with that, and Cinetopia isn’t even in the ballpark for those prices.
Did I mention beer? Oh hey you can buy beer, either a micro or one of those others «beers» (I’m looking at you Bud Light). There’s also the typical popcorn/​candy. All are reasonably priced just like the tickets.
The screen itself is much better than other second run theatres, as is the sound system. Overall makes for a well priced, delightful experience.
Also — the owners are super, super nice. Lots of Joy @ the joy.

Went to the Joy Cinema for the first time last weekend. It’s a great cozy theater in Tigard, just a single screen and they usually have 3 showtimes daily of a couple movies. The price is right, they serve beer and wine (but only for shows after 5 pm) and they run their register on an iPad.
The theater is nice other than when you spot those perfect seats, go up to it, and see they are blocked off with tape (I’m assuming cause they are broken). You’ll definitely want to sit a little closer than normal, the sound wasn’t the best from the back of the theater it seemed. Would definitely go back!

My new favourite date night spot. They serve beer, energy drinks, pizza and a slew of candy as well as the usual popcorn. The décor is as great as that retro 50’s car parked out front, animal print and B-​movie posters? count me in! They play second-​run movies for around $ 4, they are starting to bring in some cult classics (recently watched «American Werewolf in London») and there’s been some talk of future 3D showings of classics. The charm is there, it’s a classic picture show theater with wonderful accommodations. I highly recommend a visit.
