The current chef is GREAT!!! We went up yesterday and sat in front of the big south facing window. It was a beautiful sunny day and we could see for miles. The view is amazing… and the food matched it. The food was surprisingly good compared to past visits. I ordered the baby kale salad, mushroom soup, and a hot chocolate with peppermint rum, whipped cream, and cinnamon stick. Presentation was excellent, taste was superb, and service was attentive. The mushroom soup was one of the best I’ve ever had in my life, the kale salad was total perfection, and my drink was unbelievable… sooooo good… worth the drive alone! Things have improved here so much over the last 20 years. My friend ordered the clam chowder and she loved it. I don’t know if we were just lucky that day, but everything was exemplary. I’m a «foodie», so I’m highly critical. This meal was flawless. Thank you so much!!! REMEMBERTOGETYOURSNOPARKPERMITBEFOREYOUGETHERE!!!

Great bar upstairs at timberline lodge. They specialize in mules in all forms. Very good. Great area to sit and view.

Do not order the clam chowder if you are a pescetarian as it contains ham. The menu does not specify that the clam chowder has meat(this is the clam chowder I’ve had that has had anything but fish). My boyfriend ordered it after not eating meat for three years and is so so sick. I am upset and disappointed that the menu would only include the award that the soup had won and not any details about what is included, especially ingredients that people are sensitive, allergic, or morally against eating. We will not be returning and are upset that we had to pay so much for food that made him so sick.

My husband & I drove from Portland to Timberline to relax, enjoy the mountain draped in snow and to take in the awesome views! We haven’t been to Timberline since our children were small and we recalled warming up in Ram’s Head Bar. The Hot Chocolate here is AWESOME! You gotta try it! Our waiter Tyler, was on it and easy to talk to. It’s nice to see that the place hasn’t changed much.

Well, the food is ok, the service is ok, but nothing really overwhelmingly impressed us. We all had clam chowder, it was decent, don’t forget to ask for crackers because they won’t bring them unless you do. I also had the pastrami sammy, it was good, needed a little mustard. The salad that came with it wasn’t very good at all. 2 Moscow mules were good. I don’t think I’d make it a point to come back here for lunch, but I’m glad we came.

Cozy, relaxing little bar inside the Timberline Lodge. Friendly, quick service! Decent selection of local beers. Fun cocktail menu. I had something with strawberry purée and cucumber vodka, delicious! My husband and I split the Muffuletta. HUGE portions and very tasty!

This place could be a lot better. It would be nice if they hired one person who has worked somewhere as upscale as this place could be. Currently it’s run by what seems like college kids, none of whom have ever worked in food service. They have a good time, but the’re not very service oriented. The food is also pretty«meh», but the location is so awesome that it really doesn’t matter. It could be as good as the Awahnee in Yosemite with a tiny bit of effort. A little on the expensive side, food not great and service could use an overhaul, but overall a great place to be because of the location and the history of the building.

My friend took me to see Mount Hood during my visit to Hood River. The sun was out, but there was a bit of a breeze which created a wind chill factor that we were not prepared for. So, we cut our hike short and popped into the Timberline Lodge for one of their famous Hot Chocolates. OMG! This thing is like a dessert!(See pic!) Made with Dutch cocoa and topped with whipped cream, English toffee pieces and caramel and chocolate sauces. They also top it with a cinnamon stick which I put in the mug to let it infuse in my hot chocolate. This thing is soooooooo good! You can’t go to Mount Hood and not get one of these!

We stopped in for lunch as we made our way around the mountain. The lack of snow, even for July, is concerning & sad. There was a short wait for a table but not long. We noticed after we were seated that there was also a restaurant downstairs. We asked our server if the menu is different and he told us it’s a buffet downstairs with menu items also but he didn’t know what was on the menu. I understand that these are two separate restaurants but his lack of knowledge of their menu seemed odd. I ordered the sandwich special which was a turkey club. It was very good albeit much too large. My sister had the same sandwich and a cup of their tomato soup which she loved. Brother in law had kale/salmon salad and some clam chowder. He enjoyed it all. Soup was served extremely hot.

Timberline Lodge exemplifies service! This place is one of our faves. Enjoy a cocktail and play some backgammon, peruse the views and enjoy the craftsmanship that went into this historic lodge.

The food is really good, but expect to pay ~$ 20 per person. The views are also amazing, if you’re lucky enough to get a window seat. My two main complaints were(1) the table and cup were noticeably dirty, so this wasn’t an upscale place, and(2) the customer-to-server ratio seemed like 20:1, so our poor server was doing his best but had too many people to cover to provide normal service(e.g. we never got our drinks refilled). The bowl of clam chowder($ 8.5) was delicious and the sandwiches($ 19) were huge, so the prices weren’t unfair, just expensive.

Lunch at the picture window, overlooking where our son Mikey is freestyle skiing with Windells this week was«synchronicity» at work. I was taken back to see that FDR In 1937 gave his seal of approval for the Timberline parks dedication. Nick our waiter from Minnesota was well versed in our Pinot Noir selection of a Oregon Elk Cove 2012 Willamette Valley… Mount Hood as the foundation is a reminder of GOD’s grandeur that is deafening as all other senses are overwhelmed… And how small Mans presence is by contrast… We are Blessed with this privilege …

We visited Timberline Lodge and ventured upstairs to the bar for a drink after walking around a while. The bar itself is quite comfortable and the seats are arranged in way that gives maximum views of the mountain range or Mt. Hood. We just got drinks, did not try the food, although I looked at the menu and it seemed a bit pricey. But hey, it costs money to transport food up a mountain that stand 11,000+ feet. I got an oatmeal stout and it was full-bodied and smooth. The wife opted for a speciality cocktail called Bees Knees which is gin, lemon, honey and rosemary. It was kind of bitter until she stirred the honey around a bit. She did not like it very much and thought the drink was too bitter. We enjoyed the bar and it is not too loud. They let you sit for as long as you want. All in all, a very calm place to take in spectacular views.

I had a dream come true afternoon at Timberline the day before I flew back home to Hawaii, and the Ram’s Head experience was truly the cherry on top. After a unseasonably warm and dry winter, my Portland family said regrettably, I probably wouldn’t be able to play in snow. We drove up to Timberline anyway on 3÷21÷15, just to see the hotel, after being dry the whole week(we were scoping out the webcams daily). Magically everything was covered in falling snow! After playing in the snow, we warmed up in the stunning lodge and headed to the upstairs bar for some cocktails. We sat by a large window where we had picturesque views of snow covered pines and skiers. I ordered a hot buttered rum(always wanted to try one!) And my moms got a beer and a bloody mary. The hot buttered rum was warm, cinnamony, and sweet… so delicious that I got the recipe from the bartender to make for cold Hawaii nights(yeah right). I also sampled the bloody Mary and it was one of the best I’ve tasted! We also ordered the fondue($ 16?)which seemed like the perfect snack for a ski resort. It was made with local beer and cheese and came with bread, apples, grapes, and carrots. I couldn’t get enough. The prices were comparable for a resort, everything was so tasty, and how do you put a price on a magical snow day? It was a wonderful end to our short time at timberline, and one day I hope to return.

Me and my husband had two suppers at Ram’s Head because it was way more affordable than Cascade(main courses 32 – 38 $). At Ram’s Head, a tuna salad sandwich is 18 $ & it is pretty big, so I would bring leftovers to my room each time I got it. Needless to say that it was delicious. My husband liked his food too. The service was great, our server was an older gentleman, which was very friendly, attentive & knowledgeable(he answered my questions about vegetarian options). Loved the bar’s atmosphere in the evening, the view from the window and my cocktail, French 75. Can’t wait to visit Ram’s Head again! Update: I was a little sad to learn the amazing tuna melt sandwich has been replaced by another item. Little suggestion: please add more vegetarian options/substitutes for meat! Pretty please :)

We went here becuse we wanted to eat at the famous Timberline Lodge which the Ram’s Head is housed inside of, and it was well worth the trip. The whole place is incredible, so much wood and stone work, made me want to have an LOTR convention there. Once you make your way through the awesome lodge to the Ram’s Head you will find a bar/pub like no other with many great views as the seating is all around a central pillar with windows on the outside where you can look at snowy trees and the generally beautiful scenery. The food is a bit hit and miss but the drinks and atmosphere are amazing! I had the Trillium huckleberry vodka drink which had ice cubes infused with I think lavender and lime vodkas too, whatever it was it was excellent and like nothing I had had before. They even have a Shining themed drink to celebrate the fact that the exterior of the Timberline Lodge was the location for some of the shots of the lodge in Stanley Kubrick’s classic film. As for food we did enjoy the fondue although would have preferred more vegetables vs fruits on the plate and my wife’s Tuna sam was ok.

When my son worked at Timberline he talked about the good food he was getting up there and kept telling us to take the drive to go eat. Why we didn’t, I don’t know because it is just as close as Portland for us. I did take my sister up there on her recent visit and told her we had to eat there. We had missed the lunch buffet at the other restaurant there, which is served from 11−2pm I think, could be 11:30. Check the website, as I think it also gives the menus. We got a great seat facing the mountain. Service was good and they were pretty busy for 2pm on a Thursday afternoon. We ordered the Fondue $ 16, which had plenty of things to dip, four large pieces of homemade bread, grapes, apples and carrots. The only complaint is there was not enough cheese. It is served in a tea cup and not filled all the way up. We were left with a whole piece of bread and many grapes without cheese. Neither of us are heavy dippers so, if i had been eating with one of the guys in the family, it could have been a blood sport getting enough cheese. I would highly recommend eating up there if you are visiting. Just remember like everything else in an out of the way, tourist area, prices will be higher, but where else will you get a great view at the base of Mt. Hood?

Today Gail and I are lunching at the Timberline Lodge-majestic, old faithful-esque, 360 degree views & the white-monolithic spectacular Mt. Hood. Get the picture, the ambience is stellar! Food, 5-time, Oregon coast, award winning clam chowder(best ever!!!)! Also, smoke and pulled cascade natural beef brisket sandwich with red onion, Tillamook cheddar, and Dijonnaise on a soft hoagie(too soggy and needing some spice but generous portion of tender beef) served with sweet corn pickled pepper salad. And how does Marion blackberry cobbler with oatmeal crumb topping and whipped cream sound before a hike around Mt. Hood? Come and find out, a nice excursion close to Portland. …and very responsive food service!

I came here last week for a late lunch and really enjoyed our visit. The restaurant has a beautiful 360 floor plan so you always have a view no matter where you sit. We grabbed a seat by the window so that we can watch as the snow falls. It was so beautiful! The restaurant was nice and toasty with a fire place at the center. We warmed up with some hot drinks and some beer. I ordered their portabello mushroom panini and a clam chowder bread bowl to share with my fiancé. The clam chowder was AMAZING. It was creamy, thick, and hearty. I loved how chunky the chowder was and it was PACKED with clams. I got at least 2 clams in every spoonful. Now THAT is how clam chowders should ALWAYSBE. The bread bowl was also fantastic. It wasn’t super dense so the bread was easy to break apart to eat. The panini was also really good. Perfect for sharing. The bread was nice and toasted, and all the contents stayed in place making it easy to eat. Service was friendly and attentive. It was a lovely meal. I absolutely LOVED the cabin feel of the lodge. The structure is constructed with beautiful solid pieces of wood. The windows let in lots of natural light and the fireplace heats up the entire place. You can order a drink and take it anywhere through out the lodge – not limited to just the restaurant dining area.

This whole place is just an amazing spot for its history, for its location, for its ambience. I love this one bar in particular because even with the awesomely big lodge it is in, and the awesomely mountain looming over it, it’s darn right cozy here. You are kind of off in a corner with wonderful views, solid, warm wood all around you including the furniture you are sitting in. The few times I have eaten here have not disappointed either. This time round I went for their curry/carrot soup and one of their delicious salads. Not to mention the«old» classic cocktails on their menu as well. Mosey on up there and have yourself a nice sit down and watch the world go by.
