I was looking for some nice chocolates to wow my wife for her birthday and I came across Cacao Lorenzo looking for chocolatiers online. I went with the Galerie au Chocolat assortment so she could try out a wide variety. This was a huge hit. The chocolates were so rich and the flavors were so interesting, everyone had to give it a try and the box didn’t last any time at all. One of the real highlights for me was the white chocolate with pistachio filling. It was as smooth as butter and just the right amount of sweet. Fantastic. I can’t wait to go back.

Who doesn’t love European handcrafted chocolates? The chocolates are delicious — they know how to make a smooth and velvety ganache filling. I appreciated the craftmanship. I bought the galerie au chocolat aka the assortment. From the box, I liked the cappuccino ball(truffle/ball shape of milk chocolate dusted with cocao), basque square(port wine soaked figs in a ganache), chestnut(chestnut with dark chocolate) and dos corazones(white chocolate with a pistachio filling). The Kirsch overwhelmed me with the alcohol, so I couldn’t taste the chocolate. Some of the other flavors weren’t to my liking but nice. The location is a basement level, retail space. It is compact with a few stands merchandising their selection of chocolates under the the bright fluorescent light. Sigh. I guess I was expecting a sumptuous yet compact retail space with cases of glistening chocolates. Everything is already pre-packaged. I would have preferred to choose my assortment of chocolates. I would give 3.5 stars.

All chocolates are made on the premises. The quality is exceptional and the owner is helpful and friendly. The chocolate bars are buttery and sublime. The prices are very reasonable. My favorite-the cherries(seasonal). My son ate ½ the box on the ride back home(I made the mistake of allowing him to hold the box. We live very close to the store.)

I love the chocolate at this delightful French boutique chocolate shop. The chocolate, especially the«Lavender,» the«India» and the«Cappuccino» bonbons are ‘delicate and sophisticated’ as their website states. And the prices for this quality of chocolate is so much better than chocolate shops in New York and D.C.; this really is an affordable luxury.

Three and a half. Good chocolates, although personally I think the lavender flower and India chocolates are a tad strong. Their new Paradiso, clusters of golden raisins and cranberries dipped in chocolate, are a nice taste for this time of year. I’ll be back for their bars of white chocolate when I’m not already putting on pounds, assuming I’ve demolished the chocolate covered hazelnuts(Media Noche) and almonds(Cat’s Teeth). Very friendly service, makes a point to remember the local names. Balances selection with quality of supply rate.
