Sooooo, I actually stopped in this store due to the store next to it being closed. I had never been to either location but, it was a Saturday morning before 11 am. I was greeted when I entered. Being diabetic, I had no reason in this store but, I could not resist. I did not feel pressured to buy anything. However. I picked up a few caramels and a few single pieces of chocolates. I was asked did I need a box. And being me, I would have chose the box for no reason. But, the gentleman told me if it were a gift the box would be good but, if not it really was not needed. Nice to have someone not force you to buy something you don’t even need. I made a small $ 13.00 purchase 4 caramels and 5 single pieces of chocolates. Small place but, very unique. I was impressed. Let’s just say I would have no problem spending money in this place again. I am so glad the location is not close to my house. Great customer service.

After reading about Glarus in Baltimore Magazine, I had high hopes for this place. Went a few days before Valentine’s day and wasn’t surprised there was a line. I was surprised to see a woman taking a baby out of a baby carrier behind the glass window leading to what I assume is the kitchen space where the chocolate is made. Maybe it’s me, but I associate babies with lots of diaper-changing, though at least she didn’t come out to serve customers till after I had my turn in line. Anyway, at this shop you can choose from an array of freshly made chocolates behind a glass case — mostly truffles in the typical round shape — in various sizes of boxes. I chose the 12-count box with almost one of everything(there were 14 choices that day). Hubby and I sampled them as soon as I got them home. The truffles had a thick shell, a tad thicker than 1/8-inch, so it wasn’t exactly melt-in-your-mouth — you have to bite and chew these suckers. Granted, my taste runs toward the French style of fine chocolate like Richart and Michel Cluizel, so I like my chocolates to dissolve in my mouth like a Communion wafer. It’s really a matter of personal taste. I think Glarus is Swiss style. The info sheet included in the packaging said that Glarus was ranked #6 in a list of the best American chocolatiers. However, after looking into it, I discovered that this ranking comes from an online magazine for 20-something men, so like, you know… consider the source. Bottom line, I was glad to at least give them a try.

You can tell when you have found something special. You get that weird feeling like,“Yeah this is gonna be good.” The Glarus Chocolatier has moved to Harbor East in Baltimore, MD and it is MOST excellent. If you’re one of those people who buy those really expensive dark chocolate bars at the Walgreens or CVS when you have a sniffle, this place will rock your world. Granted it is a good bit on the expensive side, which is a reason they have one star less than 5. The chocolate is very good and extremely pure. You know how dark chocolate kinda chips in your mouth when you eat those bars from your local drugstore? Yeah, chippy, but tasty. This place has no Chippiness in their chocolate. NO, it is creamy dark goodness. Do they have milk chocolate? Why yes! Truffles? For sure! White Chocolate? Ja Edelweiss! This joint was started by a married couple, so it’s chocolate seriously handled with care. So Harbor East residents, when you have that sniffle and you just want to coddle yourself like a little baby. Don’t worry, the CVS is next to the Chocolatier. If you’re a top level exec at some nifty fortune 500 company? Yeah you’ll fit in here too. Get your necessary winter season drugs and go buy yourself a bunch of truffles or a bag of chocolate bark with Almonds. Do it, Do it, Do it! You will not be sorry. If you love Dark Chocolate and truffles you will fall in love with this joint!
