92.7 FM MVY Martha’s Vineyard Radio

When we all first arrive on MV we go a little overboard with our accolades. Everything, everything is just perfect. Heavenly.
The wild turkeys wander into our yard, we grab the camera. The deer come out at dusk, we call to our families and peer quietly out the window. The food is the best on earth. The people are all so nice, so honest and so friendly.
Soon we see the turkeys pooping on our flower beds, the deer eating every single lily just before they bloom (not to mention dropping ticks all over our back yard so we get Lyme Disease) and the food ends up ranging from bad to really good but is seldom great. (With the exception of most simple seafood dishes– all excellent.)
And as soon as you read the MV Times, especially the on line version, you see that the residents of the Vineyard are just as flawed as everyone else on the planet.
Such is the WMVY trajectory for me. I did think it was just perfect. While I do remain a fan, I no longer listen to the station unless I am desiring an extended trip back in time. WMVY is a bit too stuck on certain aging singer songwriters and it can really drive you nuts. If you are in your 50s or 60s, you will probably really like this station. But even though I really do appreciate the oldies, I just can’t keep hearing songs like «You’re So Vain» another time, I just can’t. I am going to drive into a tree if I have to listen to «You’ve Got a Friend» again. Old friend Bob Dylan did his thing and keeps on doing it, but do we need to keep hearing him over and over? They go radical when they play Bob Marley.
It’s easy going music; it’s safe to say that you can play the station during your next cookout and everyone will be happy with the soundtrack. But a little variety would be a welcome treat.

I discovered this radio station on iTunes while at work. It is the perfect blend of music to listen to in my office. Love it!

WMVY makes growing up on the Vineyard harder than it needs to be.
It might be ok if you want to take stroll down memory lane and listen to the same drivel that your parents listened to while they drove around with you in a laundry basket on the floor. (also known as a Vineyard car seat.)

It’s been a while since I’ve updated this «WMVY» radio review. They’ve still got it going on. My key addition here is getting the iPhone application by AirKast that gives you the album, artist, title, and lyrics while the songs are played commercial free. You can download it from their website.
Quick inside info… don’t try to play iPhone app and live radio together as there is a signal delay for the web stream.

ooooh, I agree with JRH. *nothing* says i’m on the vineyard for a horizontal, r&r weekend like a constant soundtrack provided courtesy of WMVY.
we also listen to it on the Cape, as radio options here are slim, and WBRU can get a little, uh, noisy, sometimes.
