Horribly tired-of-life-looking hipsters(the phony type) work here. Unfortunately, the pastries and coffee are worth coming back for. Did I mention, Staff needs a major makeover.

The service leaves a lot to be desired. Only stopped in for a glass of wine. After 15 minutes of sitting at my table I asked if we were supposed to order at the front. I was told no that they would come to our table. 10 more minutes and finally someone came. There were a ton of people working but not many people in there.

If you liked Murray’s before they moved across the street into a beautifully renovated and repurposed church with gobs of indoor and outdoor seating, you’ll love the new Murray’s! Still a hip, fun café, Murray’s has expanded their menu for both meals and baked goods. I’ve found the new selections for lunch to be perfect and less predictable than your average café fare. Rather, they are serving a very well thought out menu of slightly more sophisticated entrees and always great lightweight options. The miso kale salad was fabulous. And thanks so much, guys, for throwing a couple of gluten free options into the pastry case! Whether you’re taking advantage of the relaxing new patio or dining in the slick indoor dining room the atmosphere is relaxing and the service low pressure. I always feel comfortable sitting with just a cup of coffee — as if that happens often when I spot the baked goods.

Everything, and everyone, associated with Bard ends up at Murray’s. It is located in a beautifully restored church and includes a lovely outdoor patio. The food is consistently good, but not great. Coffee is always excellent and they have free wifi. The service can be slow and often the waiters disappear for extended periods to chat with fellow Bardians. Definitely worth a stop for brunch or a need to do work in a relaxed, funky space.

Yes, a five star review for this chill, appetizing spot in the beating heart of charming tivoli. I used to sit in the other, smaller Murrays and worry that when they moved into the huge church the intimacy and comfort would be lost. I was wrong. Somehow, in a space five times the size they have maintained the same coziness but now… with an additional, well designed patio, better restrooms and a sweeping marble counter. I’m not a drinker but the most apparent change on the menu is the addition of alcohol. The inventive menu has grown exponentially with the venue. I waited a few weeks for the place to reopen before I wrote my review. A brand new spot can be very challenging and it took a couple of weeks for them to find their feet. This has been achieved. The staff are attentive, thoughtful and know what they are selling. The daily specials have been excellent, I had a huge bowl of delicious turnip soup with poached pears on Sunday. Most days I just have the simple, well priced breakfast and coffee. If you are in Tivoli forsake all others for Murrays.

If there’s better coffee anywhere in the Hudson Valley, I’d like to know about it. These folks really understand how to pull a shot of espresso! The milk – even almond milk, which is notoriously hard to get right – is always exquisitely steamed and foamed to perfection. It’s clear the owners train their staff carefully, a rarity in college towns. The new location is a welcome change and seems to make up for the many drawbacks of their previous joint across the street. Expanded menu with many more veggie options. Well done, guys!

I like Murray’s. The food is too expensive for the portion sizes, but who cares, it’s tasty and the menu’s expanded since the new location opened. What other place has«halfway» «decent» «coffee» in this area of the Hudson Valley. And the new location is actually pretty chill – literally, if you can get a seat inside. Otherwise you’re banished to the hellscape of the outside patio in August, like we were today for Sunday brunch. I’m sure it’ll be fantastic in the fall.

A number of things going on, here. One is that the building is stunning, and Tivoli is beginning to get some traction as a groovy little town, so new, good eateries are extremely beneficial to the community. Crucial word, good. The interior is surprisingly modern, given the old brick exterior. Clean and sparse. No climate control(A/C), so in summer prepare to be hot. Cooler than outdoors, maybe, but not much. The wait staff situation is a jumble, people milling around with no particular indication of what anyone is doing. We waited a long while for our waitress. She was lovely when she arrived, pleasant and helpful. I wanted to order a small side at once, because my kids were hungry, but the waitress said«the way the kitchen is, it’s probably better if you order together.» We ordered drinks and food immediately. My daughter ordered the spicy limeade, which when it arrived was undrinkable. The waitress later said there was something wrong with it and they pulled it from the menu. The tomato and feta pie was 90% tomato, not much pie. We expected something quiche-y or galette-y, but neither of those was appropriate. The flavor was okay, but just kinda unwieldy, like eating stewed tomatoes. The peach and cinnamon French toast was rockin’. The breakfast burrito was good if bland, plenty of food, but when I asked for a hot sauce I was told that they usually have Sriracha but only had one hot sauce on hand, an in-house ginger carrot hot sauce that was all heat, no flavor, and so hot as to be useless. This from someone who makes his own habanero chipotle hot sauce at home. I’m not afraid of bite or heat. This restaurant is young, two weeks in. I’ll come back again, hope they sort their dysfunctions out. Right now it’s a two-and-a-half star experience with more disappointment than anything for what might have been.

I just moved to Red Hook last week, and being a bit of a coffee snob, I immediately started scoping out shops in the area to frequent. On a recommendation from a friend, I tried Murray’s, and I’m glad I made the trip to Tivoli for this place. The coffee was quite good, the food(especially the pastries) is outstanding, and the wait staff is overall very friendly. The food takes a while to come out, but it is well worth the wait, as you can be assured everything is freshly prepared. On the other hand, the waiters are really good about keeping your coffee cup filled if you’re dining in; kudos to them for that. The only thing keeping the place from 5 stars in my opinion is the somewhat confusing layout of the place. They have a bar where it seems you can get a quick cup of coffee to go, but if you want to sit down and have something to eat, it’s not really clear whether you should order it at the bar and then sit down, or wait to be seated, or just sit and hope one of the waiters finds you. The standard protocol seems to be the latter option, but then the question becomes how to pay when you’re finished. I’ve tried handing the cash directly to the waiter without a bill, as well as walking up to the counter and asking to pay. Both of these seemed to be out of the ordinary, judging by the reactions of the staff. To be clear, nobody was ever remotely rude to me; I’ve only been met with smiles and good service. But it seems, as a first impression, that Murray’s is sitting somewhere between a classy dine-in restaurant and a casual coffee bar, where I think they would do better to settle on one or the other. Even so, I definitely recommend trying this place out!

I brought a band of musicians up to perform in the area, and when they completed soundcheck at 3:30, I called ahead to Murray’s to confirm that I could bring a group and get lunch served to them. They confirmed expressly over the phone that yes, if I got there before 4 pm(their closing time?) we’d be served. Upon showing up at 3:40, we were seated, but the chef in the kitchen then saw the group, and then things got odd. The waitress came back over, informed us that the kitchen had actually been closed for most of the day, and that the chef said there was no way she could prepare food for 10 people. This is pretty unacceptable business behavior in the first place, but what makes it particularly uncomfortable is that given that half of the party was African-American, and the issue only began after the chef had actually seen the group, it felt very, very awkward. The awkwardness was compounded when we looked in the kitchen and saw plenty of food out. I’d like to believe this was just a stupid mistake on the part of Murray’s, but the refusal to prepare food of any type for the group(when in the presence of food) felt particularly galling and uncomfortable. It was an embarrassment to me to have brought the artists to this establishment.

Murray’s was busy when my boyfriend and I walked in, but it’s graduation season and we expected to wait but we’re happy to do so. Our server informed us that they could actually seat us and we were delighted. After ordering a hot chocolate(which was delicious) and making our respective breakfast orders, we began conversing to ease the time between our stomach growls and watched as various sizes of table parties come and go… They all ate before us. We waited 45 minutes for our food: a breakfast burrito(not that hard to make) and the eggs your way option which was scrambled eggs, hash browns and toast(also pretty easy). That is absurd!!! I had also ordered a side of sausage which when I prompted the server he brought out a sad sausage patty on a sad little plate. Seriously??? For the price, I was disgusted. But… Because both of us were so hungry and in no mood to look for another place to go, we ate in silence. Then, the bill came… Quickly.(You want us to leave after you made us wait???) and they charged us for everything. I say this because… The least they could’ve done is given us a discount or take something off for our inconvenience. But instead the poor waiter got our rage with our less than optimal tip. To conclude… Food is okay. Service ain’t great. Hot chocolate was delicious.

I stopped in late yesterday afternoon for a treat and was delighted by this hipster little coffee bar that also offers up simple but well designed salads and sandwiches, as well as fresh baked goods to brighten your day. FF enjoyed a Blue & Beet Salad($ 10) of sliced, roasted beets and creamy blue cheese crumbles with a mound of tender kale lightly dressed in a delicious dressing laced with orange — very nice. I just wanted a snack, so they sliced in half a large buttermilk biscuit($ 3), buttered it and heated it on the grill for me — tender and light, perfect with coffee. I ordered a decaf that was NOT drip — Americano — $ 2.75/cup, and I wanted two, and that seemed a bit pricey, but the coffee was excellent. I felt very cool sitting there, and I’m not cool, and I was happy just to hang out.

When Murray’s is closed I am sad. Why? I will tell you. It is because the service is fantastic and the coffee is amazing. That’s why. Extra points for lovely décor and location.

My husband and I stopped in here on a rainy Sat. Tivoli itself was quiet as the grave, but luckily we were told to go to Murray’s. Walked into a lively but not at all overwhelming environment. Excellent food – we had the Onion tart and the cold pork noodles. Delish! Met the owner and found out the menu changes weekly. We’ll definitely be back!

When my friends and I made the trip upstate to pick some blueberries, we stopped by Murray’s afterward for lunch. The place was relatively busy but we were seated immediately. It looks like a hipster-esque place — a place you can find in Manhattan. The waiter was attentive and nice — he took the time to explain the kinds of coffee they carry, the specials, and different sorts of things on the menu so hats off to him. Service wasn’t too bad. It wasn’t fast but it wasn’t as slow as the other reviewers made it seem like. Maybe we just came on a good day? The coffee was good. The food was okay. It was a bit under seasoned and just… blah. But they give you large portions which is always appreciated. The price wasn’t bad either. Fairly decent place to nosh at but I think I’ll try to find other options if I go back upstate.

I have enjoyed breakfast here several times on weekends and have been a happy diner. The chef obviously cares about food. Spicy garlicky greens(often kale) under fried eggs served with hearty bread, and ordered side of yummy sausage patty thanks to feeling virtuous re kale. Service is pleasant, efficient, laid back and friendly. It’s a light, pleasant, open space. A nice spot for oh, breakfast! One thing I would prefer is if they purchased a toaster for their bread.(I mentioned this to a server.) They grill their bread apparently on a flat-top with«spread» — yuck. Otherwise the bread is good. Most of the clientele appears to be in their 20’s and I’m old enough to be their mother. Lots o’ laptops. I felt no hipper-than-thou vibe the 3 times I’ve been here. And there are some older folks. The man next to me was singing along to the(very enjoyable) retro music with no pretentiousness or embarrassment. My kind of place. All feels right in the world being here — not nirvana but I like it here quite a lot. Pleasant atmosphere with big front windows; lots of brown wood. Yes, I am a fan.

The inside was absolutely charming. Fresh flowers, including beautiful hydrangeas were on almost every table, and it was clean, bright and inviting. Pretty dead inside but that was ok, it didn’t need to be lively to be nice. Food took a little over average time to come out, and the egg sandwich wasn’t what I was expecting. Plentiful and hearty, it kept me full for hours, but was simply scrambled eggs whipped with cheese on bread. All very tasty, but when I asked for a side of jam they did not have any. Would have made the sandwich pop. $ 3.50 for a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice is a little ridiculous… but I really wanted some, and so I paid it and I enjoyed it, aaaaand that’s why they charge for it. Love the free WiFi as it was sometimes hard to get cell service in the area.
