Steak ‘n Shake

Got home late last night and needed a place open 24 hours. I enjoyed my #1 thoroughly and the chocolate shake was really good but still I can only manage to give them 3 stars because it just isn’t a 4 – 5 star caliber place.

About a month ago we drove to the Steak n Shake on Monroe St. and they were cleaning their hoods and were closed. My boyfriend and I called the location on Reynolds and asked if they were opened. They replied yes and we made the drive over there. When we arrived they were cleaning their hoods as well and apologized saying that the other location should be done and if we wanted to go back we could. So, we gave the Monroe St. location a call to check before we got there and the girl on the phone said they would be opening in around 30 minutes. We made the trek back to the other location. The employees where in the back in a truck doing who knows what while we sat in our car and waited for them to open. Eventually, I man came out claiming he was the manager and apologized for the inconvenience and asked our name and told us next time we came in we would receive two free meals and milkshakes. We contacted corporate and only received an email apology. Tonight we went back in to claim our free meals and the manager working, Tina, not only said our name had never been written down but accused us of making the story up. The guy who claimed he was a manager and promised the free food whom we saw earlier while eating was no longer available. After working in the food industry myself and knowing customer service is the number one priority the entire situation was handled so poorly that my boyfriend and I will never return to a Steak n Shake again. We have no problem paying for a $ 16 meal but the pure principal that we were treated the way we were is just unacceptable. The way things were handled is just ridiculous not only on local level but on a cooperate level as well. The only reason I am giving them one star is because it won’t allow me to give them zero.

Took forever to get seated for 5 people. Seemed to be lack of management. Very dirty floor, tables took too long to get cleaned off, restrooms smelled bad. Food was good, and waitress was excellent. You better have a lot of patience coming here.

I love this place, it reminds me of a 50’s diner in every way.

the milkshakes are something to try when you go, as is the «pulp fiction burger» the royale with cheese. LOL
the wait staff is friendly enough for everyone. and they ALWAYS play music! :D

We had to wait forever both just to get someone to seat us (when there were plenty of open tables), and to just to get our food. However, despite the long wait the food was pretty good, and it was a bargain! They were running a new promotion for a burger and fries for just $ 3.99 — definitely worth it if you ask me!

Honestly was a terrible experience. We just left there and lemme tell ya it was not good. Only reason I’m giving it 2 stars is because they have 4 dollar meals. We each ordered meals and shakes right away and the meals came and went and no shakes came. Waitress spilled ranch on my girlfriend and service was terrible. We left without our shakes and even the process of getting our shakes off of our bill was a pain in the ass. Keep in mind this was at 230 am, but still.

It is a clean restaurant. The service is hit or miss. The food is very good. Great fries. Great prices for lunch. The shakes are the best. Very rich. The wait can be a few minutes if it a busy time. Overall very good.

Service is hit or miss and lately it’s been pretty much a miss. The manager usually makes rounds at all the tables but it barely makes a difference. Food is always the same unless you get a cold plate which seems to be a common thing here. Always use coupons, becomes a great deal. Weekends kids eat free with an $ 8 purchase. Happy hour for shakes from 2 – 4 both am and pm. I would not come here if I didn’t have coupons and on weekends where kids eat free. Don’t expect good service.

Great place to stop if you’re in the need for a SnS Frisco Melt or my new favourite The Royale (nothing makes a bacon cheeseburger better than a fried egg on top).
Great servers at this location that go out of their way to make it a good place for burgers and shakes.
