I’ve only had breakfast’brunch here so not sure of their dinner and lunch food. I love the pancakes. Great service and prices are reasonable. Better than IHOP. I wish they were open 24⁄7 on weekends for late night after bars craving

the service was great but the food was gross. if i just wanted a pound banana pudding with a pound of cool-whip thats what i would’ve ordered… not the banana nut waffles. servers were super polite though.

I have been going to Uncle Johns for a few years. I am a student at UT so grabbing breakfast before a long day studying for finals is great. My most recent experience was terrible, it put me in a bad mood for the rest of the day. First, after I was seated no one would take my order. I waited and waited and waited… 25 – 30 minutes went by until finally I caught a waitress to ask if I could order. Before taking my order she left. The food took a long time as well, adding to my frustration. The icing on the cake was that I ordered«the hungries» which is on the specials menu. I really just wanted some bacon, and at a price $ 5.69, I was willing to pay an extra buck from the others. BUTITDOESNTINCLUDE coffee. Which wouldnt be so bad if they didnt charge $ 2.20 for a cup of coffee. I had one refill. It was ridiculous. Then I had to wait 10 minutes to check out because no one would meet me at the register. I wanted to just walk out. I was shocked when I was told the coffee wasnt included, I thought it was just a mistake. I got a snotty remark that it CLEARLY states on the menu the coffee isnt included. I will NEVER go back. Ruined my day.

We stumbled upon Uncle John’s while staying in Toledo. We are SO glad we took a chance and stopped here. We didn’t realize it was past closing time when we walked in, but the owner greeted us promptly and took us right to a table without mentioning the time at all. Mariah was our server and she did a fabulous job. She was super-friendly, expertly answered all of our questions about the menu, and was beyond gracious when we realized they were closing. She never rushed us, kept our drinks refilled, and made us feel like welcome guests. The food was delicious. My husband’s omelette was overflowing with meat and cheese and cooked perfectly. I ordered steak and eggs — the eggs were cooked exactly as I ordered them and the steak was perfectly seasoned. The pancakes were fluffy and topped with whipped butter and served with three types of syrup. They were delicious! We couldn’t eat everything, but we sure wanted to! If you find yourself in Toledo, make sure to stop at Uncle John’s.

Lunch Monday 8÷31÷2015 Pancakes and sausage links. Food was good. The sausage links had burned pieces of other food from the grill attached. The syrup is kept on the table. I found it a little odd that the syrup carafe lid was broken. Meaning it was wide open and not really covered. Service was ok. Host was in a huge hurry when he seated me. Then the waitress was not very friendly. She seemed in a hurry and not happy to be there. Restaurant was very loud. I could hear the conversations of customers 2&3 tables away. Annoying! Not ideal for a quiet lunch.

Went for the first time with my young daughter and the service was great! They were so nice to my daughter and even made special Mickey Mouse pancakes for her. We both got pancakes and we got large portions for a cheap price. The guy who we paid at the counter also gave my daughter 50 cents to get a bouncy ball out of one of their machines when he saw her eyeing them! We will definitely be back!

Came in sort of hungry. Left sort of hungry. Ordered fresh fruit cup, was served fruit straight out of a can from Kroger. There were no strawberries, only sliced bananas and canned oranges. No strawberries or raspberries to be seen. Only one grape. Service was testy and sassy and overall the meal was below average. If you want a below average breakfast, come to Uncle John’s pancake house.

The food is reasonably priced but not very tasty. Very greasy and not a good experience.

For as long as I can remember, my family has been going to Uncle Johns and the food is always good. Yesterday, however was the absolute best. I ordered the strawberry waffle and it changed everything. The waffle was so light and fluffy and topped with real strawberries and whipped cream. Whoever prepared it had hands blessed by the gods. Don’t hesitate to try it!

Uncle Johns is the place to go for a big relatively cheap breakfast. It’s the place to go to on a Saturday/Sunday morning, when all you want in life is some hearty, greasy goodness. It’s relatively close to UT, so it’s definitely a college student’s dream, and fits the college student’s budget, and they even offer a student discount when you have your student ID. I’ve spent many a weekend mornings dining here with my friends. Solid place to go, where you know you will get a lot of food, for a good price. They have decent omlet’s & super decadent waffles & pancake creations for when you are feeling the need to get yourself into a sugar coma.

Gail our waitress was wonderful, she took our order, offered us meal combinations that saved us a couple dollars. The food came back to the table looking great and quicker than I expected! Our meals were terrific. My family and I were visiting Toledo and it was real cool to see all the regular customers. The restaurant was very clean and I will make it a point to return! If you like home cooking, I would highly recommend you give them a try.

Food sometimes is cold that has to be sent back, but for the most part the food is good and service is usually good. However, upon the last visit tried to use a coupon that was denied at checkout. This denial has never happened in the past. The«Hungries» breakfast menu is great, but the breakfast menu specials indicates free coffee but this is not the case. Restrooms are cold and deplorable and need a definite upgrade. Completed the customer website form with no response, and really disappointed after being a customer for many many years. Guess my family and I will need to find another place to have breakfast.

Their strawberry crepes keep me coming back for more! This is a nice little casual restaurant that we enjoy having breakfast at. I’ve yet to be disappointed. The food is always tasty. The staff is friendly. Sure it’s a little outdated, but that’s what adds to the nostalgia.

4 dollar pancakes awesome! This funky little breakfast place is perfect. Not far from the ut campus and right next to a car wash, how convenient. Get the chocolate chip pancakes. The service is quick. They could update a bit.

The food is average at best. I got a mushroom omelet with spinach and it was the frozen spinach you get at Kroger. It was still cold. My eggs were over done and my biscuit was the same kind they use for the nasty breakfast sandwiches at speedway. Not impressed. It also took forever to get our food. Then waited 30 minutes after we were done eating to get our bill.

As I’ve mentioned in other reviews, Toledo has a lot of breakfast joints. A lot. Some piss-poor and others phenomenal. Uncle John’s is just A-OK. Most of the reviewers have went into detail about some of their issues: cleanliness, quality of the food, and the service. Sadly, there’s nothing that makes you want to come back.

Went up for the Friday all-u-can-eat cod dinner tonight… Not bad considering it is only 7.99 for fish, fries, nice bowl of cole slaw, corn and garlic toast. Fish was a bit greasy, but tasted fresh, and was lightly battered. A great value for the price, especially if you like fried cod. Great value, service very attentive, coffee very good(befitting a pancake house) and very clean and tidy place.

If you read my review of Uncle John’s next door(kinda) neighbor and rival pancake store, you will know that I am on the hunt for a new breakfast spot to be a regular at. I figured I would first try the next closest option. I did not think I could be more underwhelmed with Uncle John’s than I was with Original, but I was. Atmosphere: 1 out of 5 stars Walking into Uncle John’s, there are some cool pictures of Toledo and the hostess stand is a repurposed elementary school desk from the 1960’s. Neat stuff there. Once you progress further through the restaurant, it gets weirder. If you didn’t know better, you would think you were in a sports bar with all of the weird shit all over the walls. Included in the myriad of weird shit is a full sized canoe on the ceiling and a mounted deer head on the wall. Frankly, I cannot think of any restaurant where a deer head would be appropriate. The wall we sat along was full of creepy pictures of famous people from the past, all of which had dusty frames. Easily a minimum score from me for atmosphere. Cleanliness: 1 out of 5 stars All of the tacky decorations clearly do not get dusted often. Like I said, the wall of fame was dusty, along with the ledge that ran around the wall. Although that is kinda gross on its own, what’s worse is that the table we were seated at wasn’t clean. They also do not move the salt, pepper, etc. out of the way when they wipe down tables(if they do so at all), because it was sticky and there was plenty of food debris behind ours. Service: 2 out of 5 stars Once our waitress finally discovered us after 10 minutes of looking around at weirdness and debating leaving, she was fairly attentive, but unsure about my menu questions I had. Instead of asking, she just simply said she did not know. I am usually pretty needy with my refills, but she was at least on top of that. Food: 2 out of 5 stars The coffee was some sort of generic, bulk bought, bitter disaster. My incredibly small portion of corned beef hash was burned and served on a piece of lettuce, which was inedible, because the heat of the corned beef made it soggy. My pancakes were also overdone. My corned beef hash meal said on the menu that it came with«fresh sliced peaches.» It came with exactly two sliced peaches, the minimum qualification for a menu item being plural. Those peaches were obviously from a can, because they were still drenched in that gross canned peach syrup goo. Seeing how they are stingy with their canned sides, despite the menu saying they’re fresh, I have to assume nothing else here is fresh. You’re simply buying an overpriced assortment of processed garbage. Cost: 2 out of 5 Prices are comparable to Original, which is really not a good thing. The food is overpriced for breakfast food and none of it was very good. I spent $ 27 with tax and tip on my girlfriend and myself. I should have walked out when I saw the place was dirty and I should have sent back my burnt food. I would say that next time, I would send the food back, but there will be no next time for me here. I’m in between giving UJ’s 1 or 2 stars, but the experience was a turn off as a whole, so they leave me no choice.

One of Toledo’s last local breakfast joints. Diner food and a little more. This place offers old fashioned friendly service with great comfort food choices. They have an extensive menu full of choices sure to please everyone. Try one of their great breakfasts, pancakes are especially good and they have a delicious Friday Fish Fry. Presentation can be a little dated. This is not an upscale joint. Sometimes diner food is just ok, but when they get it right it soars. If you are a mushroom lover like I am, you must get the fried mushrooms. It’s enough for a meal: crisply battered large fresh mushrooms, served with both ranch and cocktail sauce. The BEST I’ve ever had! They are definitely not your commercial cookie cutter breakfast place. Breakfast crowd weekends are packed. Check em out.
