Not a place I personally would ever trust to treat my family or friends. Very behind the times

My husband, a 71 year old male, was transferred to UT with undiagnosed neurological problems. He had been hospitalized 6 days before being transferred. The referring hospital had ruled out stroke and seizures. UT did 48 hour EEG with depty electrodes, but did not monitor my husband during the night so he ripped these from his head and had to have them re-implanted. This was not a pain free procedure. Since he was not assigned anyone to be with him during the night, our family member stayed to make sure my husband did not again tear out these electrodes. This procedure did not present any reason for the problems he was having. he had reached the point where he was not speaking, walking, writing or feeding himself. The doctors performed other tests including a spinal tap and then discharged him to a nursing/rehab facility with a diagnosis of rapid dementia and the hope that rehab would help him regain mobility. They assured me they would continue with the testing on the spinal tap and researching the EEG results. After a few days in the facility, my husband suffered another stroke-like episode and was taken back to the first hospital. They offered to admit him, but had no idea what could be wrong since once again stroke was ruled out. I insisted he go to Cleveland Clinic. Twenty-four hours we had a diagnosis of CJD. A fatal brain disease. Cleveland Clinic was doing a spinal tap when I told him UT had done one. Upon checking with UT, the doctors learned that they has discarded my husband’s sample since he was no longer there and the test was not performed. From the first hospitalization to his death was forty-two days. When a person goes into a hospital walking and talking, and reduces in a matter of two weeks to almost vegetative state any doctor worth his salt, would know it is more than dementia. Nothing could be done to help my husband, there is no preventative methods or cure of this horrible disease, but a diagnosis at least a week or two sooner, would have given us more time at home to care for him and love him before he passed away.

I’m a medical student here at the University of Toledo, so I’ve gotten to know a lot of the doctors well. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better group of smart and compassionate doctors. They truly try their best to take the patients perspective into view, and work hard to improve the lives of their patients. The facility here at UTMC is top notch, and the non physician staff are incredibly friendly as well.

At the Dana Cancer Center at UTMC in the radiology department there is an excellent staff of nurses, doctors, and other personnel. Dr. Krishna Reddy is excellent. My boss had cancer and I assisted him during his treatment at UTMC. Dr. Reddy and his staff went above and beyond.

Dr Blair Grubb , the best Neuro-cardiologist ever! Don’t get me wrong, because I adore«Harry», the pacemaker guy, too! Another wonderful«Dr» in the house, there in Toledo, or U of T; is Beverly K.(& she as a whole lot of letters after her name too!)! These 3 are my favorite people of all time, in my world of Dr’s & health Centers! …but for all intensive purposes, today I want to focus on the great staff and my favorites at the Cardiology/EPS/Neuro-Cardiology Dept at Univ of Toledo Medical Center! It’s a scary thing when you have a metal device in your chest, called a «Cardiac pacemaker»! It keeps me alive, for the most part! Its now doing 60% of the work, for my heart! So I just might not always be excited to be there… and even less excited to wait for the day when they say«its time for surgery! Your pacemaker is getting old and you need a new one!» That’s what they said to me this last visit, just a few weeks ago! First, I saw Harry, ad he checked my pacemaker! He was telling e that it’s getting old and probably this Summer I’d need a new one! Before he finished talking he was testing my pacemaker out & he warned me that he was going to turn it off just for a second, to show me how it will feel if it ever fails on its own before it’s replaced. I turned strangely colored and got ill in a flash! He put it right back on and said I’d need my new one sooner than later! He spoke to Dr Grubb and we spoke with«Beverly» the nurse practitioner/dr.‘s assistant, Before we knew it, I was scheduled for a surgery with anesthesia and the whole thing… and t’s only a month from now! Another nurse came in with lab slips and explained what needed explaining. Dr Grubb himself popped in ad talked to me and geez… what other great Dr would come into the room and actually TALK with me at a level I can understand?! Dr Grubb was wonderful and caring, kind and very patient, without EVERRUSHING me!!! Beverly came back and asked me if I Had any other questions and Harry did too! They were great, as they always are at the UNIVOFTOLEDOCARDIOLOGYDEPT! They always take their time with me and I never mind if I have to wait a little while… because I know when they’re with me, they’ll also take all the time I’ll need!

We came to train students on how to use our software. The building inside and out reminded me of college(which I never completed). If I wanted to learn how to be an organ recovery technician working for an organ procurement organization, I’d try to go here.
