The most authentic Mexican food you will find in Topeka. I’ve been here numerous times, and everything I’ve had from here was good, and I don’t think you can go wrong ordering almost anything off of the menu. The prices are extremely reasonable as well. That being said… the location is scary as hell. Definitely a place to visit during the day for lunch and not for dinner.

I have been taking my family and coworkers to Tacos El Sol for years. I enjoy the food and customer service is usually pleasant. This is the last time I visit. I was double charged once for my meal total and a second time for my meal total PLUS tip. I tried rectifying by calling Tacos El Sol and never received a call back or phone kept ringing. I Aldo tried reaching out through Facebook and never received a message back. A business that doesn’t take care of its customer in their own error doesn’t deserve my business. Be sure to check your bank or credit accounts if paying with debit or credit card!

Awesome hole in the wall! Totally authentic! I got the chicken burrito and my daughter got the chicken quesadilla. You have to get the chips and queso! Want to try the tacos!

Food was great and the people where really nice. We where surprised by how fast the service was. The fountain juices are good if your not sure they will let you taste them so you don’t feel committed if you don’t like. The portions are quite filling, and watch out for the green hot sauce. That stuff is hot! I’m coming back for sure to try other things on the menu.

Good food, friendly staff, quick service. The pork tacos were very good and so was the cheese dip for the chips.

Why does everybody love this place?! Pardon me, I do not mean to offend, however People seem to love a «cult classic», a «dive», a «hidden gem»…so I feel like based on that alone, this place gets«cred». However, perhaps it is me who has poor taste in mexican food, or a regional preference at least. Being from Chicago and having spent large portions of my life in Seattle, San Diego and Houston I have been exposed to a wide variety of regional mexican foods. When I first came to Topeka for work I asked around to find the best mexican food in town, everybody pointed me here! On my first visit I played it safe with a bean burrito. On my subsequent visits, which were for informal work meetings or suggested by friends, I have tried lingua tacos and alpastor. It was all overly fried tasting and super greasy. The refried beans strangely tasted like they had been fried with donuts in the same grease. The lingua,(which in other places ive been, was light, tender and flavorful) was thick, dripping with grease, it literally ran down my hand, and had little defining flavor what-so-ever… I mean, I could tell it was a beef product, but thats about it. This place, however, does deserve a star because they have BOTH cans of diet coke(for $ 0.50 i think?) AND diet coke in the fountain… not to mention styrofoam cups(I refuse to drink fountain pop unless its in styrofoam)!

If you are looking for a nice, quiet, upscale Mexican place… This ain’t your place. This is just some awesome food, huge portions on paper plates in a house in the ‘hood. Pan fried tacos are the BEST. To go here and not order the pan fried tacos is just a waste of a trip. The carne asada is also a worthy menu item. As is the tacos al pastor. The point is this — it’s authentic mexican. Not that tex-mex, mexican tv dinner garbage that so many Topeka restaurants are known for. This is the real deal with real red sauce. It’s in the ‘hood. Not gonna lie to you — can be a rough part of Topeka but only if you are a trouble maker. Just drive over there and order the food and be ready to make it one of your favorite places in town.

Tacos barbacoa and carne Assad burrito were good but not anything special. I will come back to try more so I guess they did something right.

I normally am not in East Topeka but was there for a meeting and when we breaked for lunch I ventured over to Tacos El Sol and was pleasantly surprised. When I walked in, there were people from all walks of life there for lunch, which is always a good sign when you see white collar, and blue collar folks eating at the same place. The staff were very quick and trying to hustle through the lunch crowd as best they could. For 7 bucks though, I got a steak and potato burrito, a side of rice and a drink. It was freaking delicious! I can’t wait for the day when I venture again and sample the rest of their menu. Yeah, its not refined, and it may be closer to Tex-Mex than mexican food, but its still pretty good for my dollar.

«The best taco in town served on a paper plate.» It’s inexpensive and tasty. There are apparently, many things they serve not on the menu. It’s not my favorite Mexican gig for food, but the place is clean, the staff is friendly and the food is reasonably priced — enough to make me go back for more.
