The first time I came here, I only tried the fries and a shake. It was good, didn’t take too long to serve, and server was on top of things. However, the second time I came back for a full dinner, it was BAD. The lady server seemed overwhelmed, she messed up in our oder, broke a plate in front of us and there was glass everywhere, and it took more than 30 min to bring out our food. The food was average, fries too oily, sandwich fell apart, and water smelled like clorox. I don’t think I would choose this place again. I like the theme and décor but I hope they improve their service.

Awesome servers, sweet décor, and constantly playing old songs in the background :) Tried the Chicken Bacon Melburger with sweet potato fries — it was good but way too much for me, Keep up the great work!

I’ve been to other Original Mel’s Diners in SF, Walnut Creek and here. They are all about the same. Average. It’s a great place for breakfast all day. They do great breakfast. The burgers are ok. The fish and chips is frozen fish, so don’t expect fresh. Pretty standard American Fare. For this location in Tracy, I’ve been here a handful of times at different times of the day. The staff in general I find to be forgetful or inattentive regardless of the time of day or how many are in my party. I know this location is still on the newer side and I’m sure still working out some kinks. But I hope they get it worked out soon with more training or better servers.

Came in here(02÷14÷16) before Zoolander 2(not as good as the first one) since I wanted to give Texas Roudhouse another shot but they had a 2+ hour wait. Next time. The place was nearly full but we were able to get one of the few tables open. I ordered the SF Burger, which had bacon, avocado, grilled onions, cheddar, and thousand island on sourdough bread. It was good although I did ask for more thousand island since it didn’t have as much as I’d like. The fries were okay, kinda wish they had a just more crisp to them. Nothing major to knock them. The ranch was pretty good too and service was great as well. This was my first time eating at a Mel’s in ages and I do plan on going back after seeing the Hangover breakfast on the menu, which sounded awesome.

Had dinner first time here. Actually have seen this franchise in SF and always wanted to try it. Reminiscent of an era in the 60’s or 50’s maybe… Music playing in the background is Elvis Presley and guys that are long gone… Juke boxes at each booth. Different … I liked that. Low star score because food is very average. Nothing special. Basic food. MANYOPTIONS of good old America classics but basic… Nothing beyond that. I had fish and chips. Fish was watery on the inside. Maybe it was frozen and fried quickly… Wasn’t fresh for sure.

Our 1st time @ Mel’s. The waitress was friendly and helpful with the menu. My wife had Ckn. Tortilla soup with a Reuben sandwich. The soup was mild in spiciness which suited her well. She enjoyed the Reuben which was moist and the Saurer Kraut on it was very good, not salty. I had the Big Bopper Burger and from several choices of sides I chose Garlic Fries, which we shared. The Big Bopper was cooked perfect and with everything on it I admit I had to wrestle with it to keep it together. All I can say is that it was delicious. The Garlic Fries were also a very pleasant surprise too, if you like garlic that is. The minced pieces of garlic adhered well to the fries. They have an extensive menu and though I really wanted a Milk Shake, we just had water. While we waited for our food we picked out 4 songs($ 1) from the Jukebox on the table. When your picks are played in the rotation the Jukebox on your table plays it also as well as on the ceiling speakers. The décor is really a great mood setter too. A lot of memorabilia.

Was seated right away. Our server was great! She let me know I could get the meal for about a dollar more and offered substitutes when I told her my dietary restrictions. She also brought my husband a 2nd Mr. pibb since she was going to be cleaning in another area. A+ to her.

Never eating here again. First time ever writing a review on Unilocal because I wanted to give people a heads up about this place. Ordered French Toast with a side of sausage. The sausage was seriously the nastiest thing I’ve ever tasted in my life. Looked fake and not even fully cooked. Wasn’t going to say anything at first but once I started feeling sick I asked to talk to a manager about it. Shortly after I had to run to the bathroom to puke. My friend ordered a breakfast burrito and was only able to take a few bites before calling it quits. Not sure if they just have nasty breakfast or what. Save yourself the sickness and eat somewhere else. Manager tried convincing me it was something I ate earlier but that was my first meal of the day. Won’t ever be eating here again.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Sometimes the service is wonderful, other times it’s downright horrible and rude and makes me never want to come back. Unfortunately it’s Tracy and our food options are limited as-is. During the breakfast hour there is a Hispanic woman who works there, she is terrible and I hate when we get served by her. She doesn’t listen, she acts as though you’re inconveniencing her and disappears for most of the meal leaving you high and dry with wrong orders or missing items. She’ll also occasionally stop by to ask you if you need anything but start walking away before you get the chance to respond. Ugh! There are also great servers who go out of their way to help, to get balloons for your kids and are really attentive. Now onto the food — it’s your average American fare. Curly fries are so good, my toddler loves their fish and chips, 10yr old brother loves the waffles, hubby loves the sandwiches and breakfast, mama likes the clam chowder and corn bread, and I particularly enjoy their shrimp and breakfast dishes(except the huevos rancheros. Ew).

Came in about 2:30pm on Tuesday afternoon. We were seated right away. The service was good. The waitress was nice and attentive. My younger daughter couldn’t decide what she wanted. The waitress waited patiently. Food came out nice and hot about 10 – 15 minutes later. The price is average, but to charge 3.09 for a flavored soda is a little overpriced. But hey we enjoyed our food and had to take some togo. However I don’t think they should have Styrofoam togo containers. But that is my opinion. Anyways we will be back to try other items on the menu! P. S. free wifi! Just ask for the password or it’s located at the registers.

After several visits, I am a big fan. Everything on the menu us well priced, breakfasts are excellent, and I had the loaded grilled cheese today, lots of onion, the way I like it! Service is friendly and quick overall. Working jukeboxes on the tables are cool!

I was excited to see that this place was opening. Originally, I was going to come here during lunch time. I saw that there was a lot of seating on the patio available, but I decided to wait and come here with my daughters, I knew they’d love the place. When a place first opens, I tend to wait a little bit before visiting. There are two reasons I do this: 1.) Because it’s usually super busy because everyone and their mother wants to try it. 2.) They have just opened a new business and all of the employees are getting into the groove with everything. After a couple of weeks, hopefully the employees have settled in and a lot of people wanting to try the place have and I can finally visit. The first time that I came here with my three daughters, it was later(towards closing) on a Thursday night. We were seated right away. It was a few minutes before the waiter came over to take our drink orders, but it was fine. The menu is actually a lot bigger than I expected(it’s been awhile since I’ve been to a Mel’s). We all ordered drinks — two of my daughters and myself ordered chocolate shakes… they are so good, BTW! My twins ordered the chicken and fries from the appetizer menu, my youngest daughter ordered mac n cheese with fries from the kids menu. I decided to go with the chicken strips and shrimp with garlic fries. Our waiter remembered everything without writing it down(I’m always impressed when servers do that AND get it correct). The drinks were brought to us within a decent amount of time. The food actually came out pretty quickly too, as the restaurant was winding down(almost closing time). The second time we came here(my kids were begging me to go to Mel’s again the next week) was later on a Friday evening. Again, it was after the dinner rush, so we were seated right away. My kids ordered the same thing, I ordered the San Francisco burger — which is on sourdough bread with grilled onions, mushrooms and thousand island dressing. I really liked the burger, it was really filling. I ordered the garlic fries again, that may be the only thing that I change… may just try plain fries next time. You pay at the front when you’re done. They play good music(especially MJ) and it’s just a fun restaurant to dine at. The second time we went, there was a mom with a group of tweens, who were all just having a great time. My kids love coming here… my waistline and wallet may be suffering after a few visits, but it’s okay. Nothing that running can’t take care of! Another great addition to Tracy.

First visit here. Jesse, our server said they’ve only been open about a week & a half. Service was friendly and prompt. Food was awesome. Everything came out quickly and fresh. My son & I chose milkshakes which were thick and delicious. My husband got the chicken wings & cheese fries. I picked the bacon cheddar burger… which was great! You must try this place. The juke box played in the background and the big screen tv’s provided visual entertainment. They gave me curly fries instead of the regular fries I ordered but quickly corrected the error. The entrance is on the west side of the building while all other store fronts on the strip are on the east side. That was confusing and inconvenient but they more than made up for it with the service and delicious food.

I stopped by Mel’s this morning(around 1030 am) to give the place a try since it wasn’t busy. As soon as I walked inside, I was greeted by two very hospitable servers who were situated behind the cash register. Knowing I had things to attend to back at home, I told one of the girls I’d be ordering food for take out and she handed me both their lunch and breakfast menus to look at. I took a seat in one of the two seats they provide for their waiting to go or waiting to be seated customers and checked out the breakfast side of the menu. I opted for their San Francisco which is basically a beef scrambled with onions, cheese and spinach and I also ordered sides of sour dough toast and hash browns. While waiting for my order, I went on my usual walk-about and checked out all the pictures and memorabilia hanging on the walls. I also peeked inside the restroom and was pleased to see it was clean and was actually being attended to by an employee, even though the place wasn’t that busy. I also have to mention I was digging the oldies being played as I walked around and enjoyed hearing the same servers who took my order singing along with the tunes. My order came to me within twelve minutes. And after thanking the young ladies for being so helpful, I was out the door and headed home. At home, I opened my food orders and sampled a bit of each. My scramble was tasty and what I’ve come to call«safe.» My hash browns were golden brown and crunchy and my sour dough toast was already buttered and just needed the provided jelly on the pieces. Overall, the food was good, fresh and enough for a hungry person but, I still needed to doctor up my scramble and hash browns with hot sauce and ketchup. I’ll return soon and try something from either the lunch or dinner menus and hopefully rate Mel’s a bit higher.

Just opened so still some bugs but overall a decent place to eat old fashion diner food. Good for deserts.
