Two stars mainly for the service. Delivery times are understated(20 mins turns out to be more than an hour) Food is alright

I’m not happy with the news coming to surface that the owner has sold this restaurant. Now the food has gone from 8 to a zero. There is no taste in the food here and I am really disappointed I hope they improve their food by getting another chef or something, because they won’t be in business if they don’t.

No frills. Sunday afternoon by myself in the restaurant. I had the Lamb Tiki Masala with rice. I ordered it spicy. It was very, very good. No complaints.

We have been here several times and each time the food has been outstanding! All of the dishes we have had are executed beautifully — all the vegetables cooked well but still with the perfect amount of crunch. The garlic naan is wonderful. A single serving is absolutely large enough for two people. Tonight we had the lamb tikka masala — the meat was tender enough to be cut with the side of a spoon. On a precious visit, the butter chicken was melt-in-your mouth perfect. We have found the service to be quick and efficient. We appreciate the attentiveness and friendly manner of the of the owners and their staff. A great family place! We have tried other Indian restaurants in the area and this is by far the best!

Went in and my first thoughts after looking at the menu was it was a little pricey(yellow dal with a side of rice was listed at around $ 11). Nevertheless I was hungry so I placed an order. After being rung up and handed my food I noticed they charged me even more for my dal than was listed. When I told the owner he laughed and said the menu was 7 years old and there was nothing he could do. Food was mediocre but I definitely won’t be back if this is how they do business.

We normally go to Dhabba for Indian food, and last night we went there with another family and they could not accomodate the 8 of us. They only have one large table that can accomodate up to 8 people, and that was already taken. They could not tell when the other guests would be done, so we decided to give Shalimar a try. And I am glad we did becuase all the entrees we orderd were cooked fresh and prepared to our liking. I ordered the Chapli Kabob which is not on the menu, but it is made upon request. It was exactly as I expected it, spicy, hot, and sizeable enough to take care of my big appetite. The rest of our group also really enjoyed their food. We will definetly visit Shalimar again not only because the food and service is good, but also because all the entrees are priced very very reasonably.

I tried this place three times. The food is consistently too salty. They use the pre made boxed spice blends for their chicken tikka masala, I can taste it. Their naan bread is the frozen kind that they heat up in the toaster. This place lacks integrity. A true Indian restaurant has a clay oven to bake fresh naan. If shalimar learns to make their«Indian» food from scratch then maybe I’ll give them another chance. But this place is just another hold in the wall existing to make money. Food should be driven by passion, not salt.

We ordered delivery, and they were kind of reluctant and charged for delivery. Butter chicken was good though!

I’m giving them 2 star, just because they lie about their menu. They get u all excited that they have $ 7.99 lunch buffet from 11 am –3:00 pm. Once u get their they tell u that they don’t serve that anymore? That’s pretty messed up. They need to change their menu and turn on their AC. Cuz is hot as hell here.

I went her on Sunday after deciding i didn’t want to cook. Their phone didn’t work so I had to drive down. The kid behind the counter was very nice and said they could make the food spicy to my liking. Which they did. I got the chicken biryani. It was great I got it really spicy the rice was probably my favorite part of the dish I’m not sure what rice they used but it was cooked to excellence! I also got green and red sauce one was super sweet I think the red one and the other was murky spicy. It was ready in about 15 minutes. I took off one star for the phone not being answers sad well as the credit card machine being down. However they got it back because they do let you lay with PayPal rather than getting cash. Pretty cool.

My first visit was with my dad and sister… we had a wonderful time, all 3 of us were very impressed and LOVED our dishes. Service was great, we were attended by the wife/owner, she was so sweet, attentive and helpful. For appetizer we had the Aloo Tikki & Kabuli Seekh Kabab with garlic & kabuli naan. My dad ordered the Goat Karahi-it was so soft & delicious, my sister ordered the Lamb Tikki masala and I the lamb Vindalo. The second time, I came by myself to try the lunch buffet… but was told that it starts in Oct 2015 :( Third time I came with my housemate, service was a bit slow(3 tables were occupied including us). But the food was still great & delicious, my housemate ordered the chicken tikki masala and I the Vindalo again since they no longer had the lamb Nihari :(

My girlfriend and I were contemplating on whether or not we should go to our favorite tacqueria or try something new. Living in Manteca, there’s a plethora of Mexican dining options but nothing really in the realm of Indian food. I was craving Indian food and had seen Shalimar before when visiting my mom in Tracy. I decided to look it up on Unilocal.About halfway through the photos, our minds were made up that we’d drive over and see if the food tasted as good as it looked in the photos. Our first order was an appetizer dish of samosa chaat. It came out fresh and very hot and the presentation was very nice. The taste… WOW. It was amazing. The spices were hitting my tongue and I’m pretty sure my taste buds had a joygasm in the process. I added some mint chutney to the dish and just about died from bliss. I’m pretty sure I could add mint chutney to a doorknob and happily eat it… the stuff is just amazing. Our next course was a combination of a chicken tandoori wrap and an order of butter chicken masala w/garlic naan. The chicken tandoori wrap was incredible. The chicken was great, the veggies tasted wonderful and the sauce they used was very good. Of course, I added some mint chutney to the wrap and that was also incredible. The butter chicken was great and packed a great flavor and the basmati rice was very good. I could eat that rice by itself and be happy, but combined with the butter chicken masala and some mint chutney it turns into a powerful force of tastiness that’ll take your taste buds on a journey of which you’ll want to go on many times more. The garlic naan came out fresh and the smell was wonderful. I used some of the naan to scoop up the rice and meat and it was delicious. The owner was extremely courteous and friendly and offered us a couple of Chai teas to cap off our meal. I had never had a Chai tea before, but it was very good and was a perfect ending to the meal. The owner even brought over a sample of a dessert. It was good, but at that point I was stuffed and it wasn’t good enough to get uncomfortably full. Apparently the desserts come from an outside company and while they’re good, I’d prefer to focus on the wonderful food being made right there in the building. This place is going into my rotation of places to eat. Awesome food, wonderful service and a friendly atmosphere makes for a great experience. Shalimar is definitely the best Indian food I’ve ever had and probably one of the top meals I’ve ever had when going from start to finish. I’d say it’s in my top 5. I only have two regrets about this place. The first is that they don’t have a location in Manteca so I have to drive to Tracy to get it and the 2nd was that I didn’t have two stomachs because I wanted to eat everything that we got and I just simply couldn’t. 5 stars easily for Shalimar. Get adventurous and check this place out. If you haven’t tried it, you’re missing out on some amazing flavors and food.

We have eaten here twice and enjoyed most of it. The garlic naan is huge, if often over cooked. The butter chicken is delightful, but low on chicken. We love the flavor of the goat biryani sadly it has a ton of bones. I ordered chai, but was never offered a refill. I was upset but didn’t say anything. When we got home I saw the menu said«chai free with order». I’d be happy to pay! Just give me more! The last time we ate in, we were given a menu, and a door flyer that said«delivery $ 20 minimum order». It’s Friday at 4pm, we are tired so I selected what we wanted and attempted to place an order for delivery. I was told there wasn’t anyone to deliver orders. It’s Friday?! Really?! I may dine in again but I’m pretty upset.

When you have a family and want to have a good family time this is the place. You will feel the warm welcome like a family. Now. The food is amazing. Not one dish I can complain about. Finish the food and we had the owner came to our table asking how was the food and service. Feeling special. And we will give them the special treat as well to be their regular customer

First time at this restaurant and I ordered the butter chicken and garlic naan bread. The food overall was really good. The butter chicken needed a tad more salt but that’s more of my preference. The garlic naan was great, just make sure you don’t have anything important to do after because they really pack on the garlic!!! Very nice family run restaurant and the little kid chilling(I believe he was one of the workers kids) in the restaurant was super adorable — he had an iPhone and kept asking me if I liked his music lol. Neat place — I’d check out their other dishes for sure, but would probably opt for the plain naan instead.

This place is pretty good, my first time here and usually with Indian food it’s hit or miss. My friend told me about this place which is not affiliated with the other shalimars but the food is different in its own way. This place is family owned and have decent customer service. Great place for a family to dine at with plenty of tables and a TV which plays Indian song videos. Staff is friendly and checks up on you to make sure things are fine. Most places do not offer that courtesy. I ordered the brain masala which tasted different than other places I’ve tried but it was edible. I also had the chicken seikh kabob with naan which was very delicious with the best chutney I’ve ever tasted. The complimentary tea is great and taste like home made chai. Overall I would come back and recommend others, but try something different.

First time in and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. A pitcher of water was brought to the table for us and service was quick and friendly. We ordered the butter chicken masala, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, raita kabuli style and chicken biryani. While the butter chicken and raita were my favorite of all of the options, there was nothing I didn’t enjoy. The biryani had more of a minty flavor than I cared for, so not something I’d likely order again, but certainly just a matter of preference as opposed to poor flavor. The«spicy» level had a perfect kick, though I did get a bite of something in the biryani that momentarily set my mouth on fire! I have passed this place by many times but will surely find my way back in the future.(Though I doubt you could ever convince me to live on the side of adventure and try goat brain!)

Pretty good food. I think I prefer Dhaba slightly. The service was quite slow and for some reason their to go order lids do not want to stay in place. Also it took hella days for them to finally get my order. Looked like two cooks in the back and one server upfront during the early lunch hour. Ordered the Tikka Masala Lamb and the Butter Chicken. Both made medium it looked quite small when I picked it up but it feed me for three separate meals. So a win in my book!

I went to Shalimar in San Francisco, so I thought it was the same restaurant. It isn’t, but this one has a lot more options on the menu and the employees are friendlier. My mom and I ordered chana masala, samosa chaat, fish pakora, vegetable biriyani, garlic naan, and mango lassi. My favorite is the biriyani. The flavors were bright with lemon and raisins. And even though it’s rice, it didn’t feel heavy after eating it. I also liked the samosa chaat, which is basically a deconstructed samosa topped with garbanzo beans and chutneys. Overwall, the flavors were really good. Next time, though, I’m going to ask for mild because it was a bit spicy for my mother and me. But why the 3 stars if I enjoyed the meal and service? A child of one of the employees was coughing in and near the kitchen, and near our table, complaining that her throat was hurting. I know that it’s a family owned restaurant, and sometimes there’s no one else to care of your child when you’re a sole proprietor. But it’s uncomfortable and unsanitary to have anyone sick near where food is being prepared. I guess we could have left, but we had already placed our order. We were the only ones in the restaurant at that time, and I think it would be awkward if we just canceled our order and left.
