Amazing Pakistani food here served by a really nice guy. I had the okra curry which was sublime, and my wife had the fish curry which was just as good and cooked perfectly. We will definitely be going back.

Had great fried chicken, chicken rice and chicken Samosas. Believe it or not it’s hard to find great fried chicken around this area but found this place on Unilocal and Pakistani cuisine on menu was extra nice, the rice was delicious.

This place is really two restaurants in one. First, Chester’s Fried Chicken is something of an institution in this part of Trenton. It has been frying up Chet’s secret recipe for several decades. Recently, the original chicken shack has been taken over by Pakistanis and added an identity of Shan Halal Pakistani, Indian & Bengali Cuisine. The Southern Fried Chicken is still produced, but now there is a full South Asian menu complete from Masalas and Kormas, to Curry, Gosht and Naan. The owner and chef is a devout Muslim, meaning he is friendly, courteous, modest, and accommodating. He was patient with me as I figured out what was being offered in these otherwise widely desperate culinary approaches. I had not experienced a Fried Chicken/Chicken Masala house before. But, I was game. I wasn’t completely ready to mix the two in one meal, and did not want to siesta after eating, so opted to go with Chester’s grub. I ordered the Special that included a Breast, Wing, 2 Jo-Jos(potato wedges) and a Roll. At $ 3.99, I thought I had stepped into a time warp. Turned out that the Chicken was quite good. The coating was light and pleasantly spiced, without the oiliness that so often comes as part of the dish. It was crispy from the deep fryer, but the layer of breading was so thin compared to what is found in the name brand competitors, that I appreciated why Chester had been so successful. The Jo-Jos were also coated and fried, but were still just a close variant to what everyone offers. The Roll was wasted calories from a store bakery. Next visit I will explore the rest of the menu and file an update. For the moment, Chester’s Fried Chicken moves to the head of the class for a well designed and executed icon of country American dishes. I would certainly pick some up for a family dinner. To get the freshest and best tasting chicken, I will call ahead and ask for a fresh order to be prepared.

This place is a gem and the food is excellent and the owner is very nice and accomodating. The chicken tenders and breasts are both awesome as are the potato wedges.

This is my favorite fried chicken place in central jersey. i always call up the owner and tell him to put fresh stuff into the fryer b/c I bring 10 people from work with me. Their potato wedges are good but there chicken tenders are the best. not as greasy or stale tasting as KFC or Popeyes. they have good kabobs as well. btw, this place is 100% halal.
