The food and décor were wonderful but the service was incredibly slow. I had to flag down our waitress when we were done with our meal and when we were ready for our check. I was also quite annoyed by the automatic gratuity that was added to my bill. We needed to get going so I didn’t contest it, but there was no mention of it on the menu or mentioned to us verbally.

Spoiled food beware. My experience today was horrible. I’ve ordered here before with no issues. However, today I ordered shrimp pad Thai and soup for takeout. I picked it up and got back to work(9 mins away) I opened my food and had a fishy smell. I then ate a bite with only noodles and the flavor was bland. I then took my second bite(some noodles a piece of shrimp and a tad of tofu) and as soon as I started to chew I gagged. The shrimp were extremely spoiled. The shrimp had gritty pieces of sand, and tastes like dirty beach water. It was horrible. However that wasn’t the worst part. The customer service was even worst. I attempted to call them for 20 mins and got no answer. I finally was able to speak to a lady who I told what happened and she told me to bring it back for refund.(as if she didn’t believe me) I took it back and was greeted by a man who was a cook there. He had a pack of cigarettes in his pocket and told me that the shrimp pad Thai needs to be eaten as soon as cooked because it will go bad. I’ve never heard of this before at any restaurant. He said the shrimp were fresh caught this morning. Yeah no. This is Hamilton nj not the gulf coast so that was a lie. I told him the shrimp made me sick and he said he’ll have them check the shrimp but had an attitude with me instead of being apologetic. I did get a refund but would not eat here again.

I have eaten here since it opened. Returned for lunch with a neighbor and her daughter in law. The restaurant is in a strip mall. It is a pretty big space. There is a large fountain dividing the seating area. The place is clean and the décor is as expected It wasn’t crowded and we were seated immediately. The waitress came right over and took our orders. There is a luncheon menu in which you get an entrée and either soup or salad. With my entrée I opted for the salad. It was a basic salad consisting of some iceberg lettuce, shredded carrots and one grape tomato. It was served with a thick peanut sauce. In the past the dressing has been not as thick and certainly not as peanut buttery. I ordered a yellow curried chicken. The waitress will ask you how spicy you want your meal. You have a choice of one hot pepper through five. I opted for three hot peppers which allegedly was medium spicy. It was pretty spicy and took away from the meal. I would go for two hot peppers the next time. This is a BYOB place which always make it a plus. Everyone else enjoyed their meals and is certainly an option from the typical local places.

LOVE these guys! SO friendly, they can get busy sometimes but the service and food are always great. Best to go on off hours to enjoy the atmosphere and friendly staff. BYOB!

The décor is nice and atmosphere is good but we were shocked when we got the menu. It was the to-go flyers. Why they cut down the cost to have actual menu when their décor has running water fall? The service was Super slow. It took then 10 min to seat us and more than one hour to have the food ready. We did not have appetizer(thanks god. Otherwise I am not sure when we actually will get our main courses) and it was past 9 pm when we arrived. I was wondering whether they just have one stove to cook one dish at a time. One more shocking thing was The server was eating pizza and walking around serving ppl. The food is good though but how can you go wrong with cooking Thai food ? Overall, weird and shocking. Won’t come back again.

Saturday night — almost 7pm and we entered a very nice room(can’t believe it’s a strip mall) and were asked if we had reservations. Room was less than half full, and we sort of chuckled. The three of us were seated and within the hour the room was FULL! BYOB and suggest you arrive before 6pm on a Saturday. We had the golden bags appetizer — fried dough with a crabmeat filling — very good but hot. Our pineapple fried rice was spicier than we thought and the red curry with beef was less spicy than we liked. Pad Thai had no noodles, strange, but probably our misreading of the menu. Good food, but the overwhelming groups arriving made the service suffer and it took almost standing on our head to get the check. Nice place, quiet but needs more waitstaff. Next time we will do takeout.

This is my favorite date night place and it’s even better because it’s BYOB. I usually come in about once a month and get chicken satay and the pad garlic with seafood. The ambiance is beautiful and the staff is always fast and nice.

Food is good, but not knock your socks off amazing. I find that the restaurant is extremely overpriced… I love Thai food, but this restaurant has fallen short in my opinion. For the area there is not many Thai restaurant options, so this is pretty much the only spot.

The coconut soup is the best ever. Presented in a coconut shell. They serve it with a side of coconut juice which soothes you since the soup is spicy.

This restaurant epitomizes why I LOVE Unilocal! As my expectations were set, before I arrived! My 2 cents: — Big restaurant(for a strip mall place) — Nice décor! — Food looked good/smelled good when we arrived — For a Saturday night, surprising to see more empty tables vs. full ones So why do I love Unilocal?Like others have commented about this place: — Poor service, but that is what I expected when I arrived — Slow, slow, slow! We were in no hurry, but it took over 60+ minutes to get our food! Why– someone took our order, but«the kitchen never got it!» That said– food was very good/excellent…too bad this wasn’t Panera, and I could have ordered my food directly! Will we go back? Ehhhhh… we’ll see!

Great place with great service! Only the dessert(green tea crème brûlée) missed the mark, but everything else we had was good(Chicken satay, Green Papaya Salad, Red Curry, Chicken Pad Thai). Awesome crazy noodles & coconut fried ice cream! Décor is beautiful!

Would love to love this place. I’m local and love Thai food. The food CAN be good, but, the service is just awful, particularly on a Friday night. My third or fourth time here, with friends who have been here with other people and the experience across our attempts at this place is pretty much the same. Good food, poor service. Ambiance is good but they could use some background music. Also, tonight I got chicken instead of the beef that I ordered. A good chef but they need to work on restaurant management. I A month later: came again with family. Service was horrendous. Will not come again.

Excellent Panang curry. Full of flavor and plenty of heat. The soup was surprisingly spicy but didn’t distract from the well balanced broth. I absolutely love the décor and the service. The chef came out to our table and made sure our dishes were perfect. A terrific surprise to find this gem in a strip mall. If you find yourself in Hamilton or east Trenton, definitely stop in for an authentic Thai experience.

We came late on a Sunday but they were more than happy to accommodate us. We ordered the chicken satay which was very delicious and our entrée was the Thai red curry… and I mentioned to please make it «Thai hot»… They did not disappoint! Excellent food and the restaurant is decorated beautifully… we will be back in the near future.

Food good. .service is terribly slow. The wait was friendly after flagging one down. I’ll put it this way. .we only saw the waitress when the food came. We had to get up to get our own water(not good when eating spicy food). We sat down at 7 pm and did not receive our meals til 8: 51, meals didn’t even come at the same time. It was an additional 15 min til the kids food came. Then waited on check. had to call restraunt as we were seated to bring bill. 3 hour dinner! Dont go here unless you have all night.

Upside: The food is quite good. For starters we had the veg dumplings and spring rolls. They were decent. Crazy fried rice was good, but not so crazy as we had expected(i.e. crazily flavorful). Basil Noodles was outstanding. Green curry was good. They have spice levels from 1 to 5. I like spicy, and 3 was good for me. Downside: Service is poor. This is my first time here, so I do not know if this is a feature of this place. But the bad service definitely stood out. We had to cancel part of our order since we almost died waiting for it to reach us. The waitress asked a lot of questions while taking our orders(spice level, with or without egg etc.). But then later she conveniently forgot about some of the orders. Maybe her handwriting is bad, and she is trying to get into medical school. Anyways, we reminded her, and when we ended up waiting for a while, we cancelled the order that did not come. All she said was ok! — as though it was business as usual. Conclusion: This place is good for take-out! 3 stars just for the food.

Always a tasty meal. Even though the majority of their business appears to be take out, you should experience the meal I restaurant. The décor, smells and music all set the stage for a wonderful meal. Step out of NJ and be cast away with an adventure for a tasty cuisine. My wife and I live the various fish dishes and the assortment of curry styles. Ask and they will adjust the spice level to your taste. Come hungry and leave satisfied.

Quite a delightful place, ideal for big gathering, with great Thai food. The is huge and very well decorated(see inside pic). We were a large party(around 18 people) and we ordered mix of veg and non-veg food. Their veggie soup with broccoli, ginger, and lemon grass was just sumptuous — highly recommended. Veggie fired rice and Pad Thai were not too bad either. BYOB with no corking charges. Generic wine glassware — if you care about it. The wait staff handled the group quite well. Their silverware is unique and very heavy. Why does that matter? Well, if you going to leave the spoon in a non-empty soup bowl, prepare for the bowl to tip over due to the heavy spoon. At least on three different occasions, we managed to do just that!

I was so disappointed with our experience at this place. Based on the reviews, we were so excited for good Thai food, we drove 20 mins away to pick up take out for a night in with wine. We ordered the fresh roll appetizer which not only smelled fishy, but upon inspection, the shrimp was completely raw. In my mind, this is totally inexcusable and almost ruined my appetite for the meal. For dinner we had chicken masaman curry and beef pad see-ew. The masaman curry had large pieces of cinnamon bark and entire cloves that were left in the dish. Both of which I understand flavor the dish, but have no place as inedible objects in a broth-based meal. The beef pad see-ew was nothing to write home about, a bit flavorless but innocuous. Unfortunately I will never patron this restaurant again.
