This place is what you’d expect from a small town grocery store. It has almost everything that you’d expect from a full sized supermarket but really keeps it to the bare essentials such as alcohol, coffee, cigarettes, and lottery. When we visited Acadia we bought a lot of our lunch supplies here. We also ended up stopping here for coffee almost every morning because it was so cheap and they have a pretty large sized cups so we didn’t have to worry about running out. I was also impressed with the friendliness of the staff. As silly as it sounds they seemed to really care about their customers even if many of them, like us, were just visiting Acadia for a short time.

Maybe I was just in vacation mode and didn’t have many cares at the time, but we stopped in at this grocery store and thoroughly loved the experience. We originally stopped in at this shop to use the restrooms but decided to grabs some goods for our camping trip before heading out. We bought some booze, milk, and found an individual s’mores pack for our campfire. The cost was a bit higher here than the larger chains, but what would you expect from a smaller shop. In the end, we liked the store and actually found the cashier to be polite. We would stop here again in the future.

No service. No smiles. No rye. Limp wilted vegetables. Butcher cuts nice meat. To bad I’ll go to Ellsworth. High prices for what they do have.

This is the third year we’ve visited Mount Desert Island in January and the third time we’ve stopped here for a few essentials before crossing the bridge. You never know who will be open and who closed for the season. This IGA pretty much does everything. It sells all of your basic groceries, beer, wine, spirits, lottery, notary public, Western Union. Your gas tank empty? Fill ‘er up here. They have lobsters that they can pack to travel and if you want some chicken or a pizza, they have a prepared food section. It certainly isn’t a superstore, so you probably won’t find any specialty items here. Why only three stars? Every time we’ve gone the cashier has been kind of miserable.
