Wow! Been reading over some of these reviews and can’t believe the remarks people are leaving. I’ve been on several of the Friday Night Music cruises — with and without the dinner —(and am planning on attending a few more this summer) as well as a Mother’s Day Brunch and have never had a problem with the food or service. I’ve always found the Capt JP staff courteous and helpful. I hope that those people with the bad reviews give the JP another try. We always have a good time; sorry you didn’t,.

I had a similar experience to Elise B. We booked an Easter Brunch to celebrate my sisters 60th birthday and I got a call a few days before the cruise and was told that it was canceled. We had put a lot of work into setting something up to really surprise my sister. Needless to say we were very disappointed and especially because it was too late to plan something else. If you make plans to go out on the Captain JP’s make sure you also plan an alternative.

The food is horrible, there are usually way too many drunks and too few people cleaning the bathrooms. It reminds me of a floating basement rumpus room without mom to clean up between high school parties.

Bad food, bad service, very bad neighbors. Overpriced and extremely inconsiderate to both their patrons and the residents.

The food/drinks leave a bad taste on your mouth, and a lingering stench in your nostrils. As a Troy resident I have witnessed behavior that is incredibly disrespectful of the community. They can do better. Much, much better.

How have I not been on this boat since my junior prom?! It is awesome. A group of 7 of us went on the Sunday noon brunch cruise. I think I ate my body weight in bacon and cantaloupe; it was a really nice buffet with eggs, cinnamon french toast sticks, sausage, bacon, a carving station, perfectly ripened fresh fruit, and sinful desserts. The ride was 3 hours long along the Hudson. The Captain was well informed but a little boring. I now know what a COI is(certificate of inspection) as it relates to yachts, which i really have no use for knowing unless I’m playing trivia. I learned about tug boat technology and the high costs of shipping to the Port of Albany. I learned that I can use channel 13 on my radio for communication and distress calls(just in case I ever need to do that). Kidding aside, it is a nice relaxing afternoon on the River and its a shame that I don’t take more advantage of my proximity to it. It is a reasonably priced. There are 2 full service bars on the main and 2nd deck. There are spaces on the main and 2nd deck that are enclosed and climate controlled! Riding on a boat down the Hudson gives you a totally different perspective on Troy and Albany. There is a DJ/band at brunch. He played a lot of The Beatles, Carly Simon, and he sang Elton John and Van Morrison so I have no complaints. It is family friendly. There were a bunch of kids dancing. There may have been a conga line. The bathrooms were clean-ish but a little busted down looking. There is ample parking in a Troy City parking garage right near the dock. They take your picture before boarding and you can buy the picture for $ 5 on the way out.(pretty good deal considering it is something like $ 20 to get a picture of yourself on The Comet at Great Escape) The last time I was on this boat there wasn’t carpeting inside on all levels. They also didn’t have the shiny fancy swoop staircase. I think I will be doing this again. Soon.

We had the pleasure of enjoying a retirement party for my wife’s school on Saturday. I was a little hesitant going in because the thought of being trapped on the boat for three hours scared me! The crew was friendly and the food was much better than I expected. It was essentially a floating banquet room and sometime prime rib can be pretty bad in these situations. Definitely not the case here. Mine was perfectly rare/raw — just the way I asked for it. The roasted potatoes were so hot I had to cut them and then wait to enjoy. The vegetable medley was cooked properly — something that is often an afterthought as these can sometimes languish in a steam table. The only minor flaw was the servers were so anxious that as soon as you put the fork down they thought that was the cue that you were done and offered to take you plate. Reasonable cash bar — only $ 4 for a whiskey sour — especially considering it was a captive audience. Lots of fun on the Capt JP!
