Anastasia«Tess» Londis recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of Jimmy’s Lunch. She has been the owner and operator since Jimmy passed away in 1993. Tess is a Saint. She treats each and every one of her customers like family. She never denies anyone a meal, regardless of her customers finances. The menu is made from scratch, home-style. The pricing points are the lowest in the city. See photo of menu. Specialties include breakfast, sandwiches, grilled cheese, and soups. On a recent visit, I took 4 guests to Jimmy’s. We ate tuna fish sandwiches, egg salad, lentil soup, etc. the bill was $ 25 total. Please support Jimmy’s Lunch, as it is one of a kind, never to be replicated.

Nice little place. Sweet old women serving us who owned the place. Kind of dead because of the holidays. Good food wasn’t disappointed. Coffee was great. It was nice to see her making the food and not slacking off.

Bottom Line: Anthony Bourdain would eat here but by «eat,» I mean just barely. I used to live on a submarine and the kitchen reminded me of the galley. Stainless steel, ravaged by years of use. A kettle or pot rattling on the stove. Old pictures of glory days past. And a nice lady(whaa?) ready to dish you up a simple, straightforward, and extremely cost effective meal. Ok, so maybe there wasn’t a nice old lady on the submarine but the mental imagery is the same. Bourdain, as a gonzo fringe enthusiast, would seek out this relic of the past. He’d sit down — make pleasant conversation — sip the straightforward coffee. And when presented, chow down on the nicely cooked sunny side up eggs and buttery, buttery toast. And then he’d say, «mhmm, good.» And it is. But it’s not amazing, it’s not skilled, and it isn’t consistent. An old school diner not in a diner car is pretty hard to run solo and it shows. The restroom isn’t pleasant, dish ware and surfaces aren’t pristine, and sometimes… it takes four trips to the stove to melt the cheese in a grilled cheese sandwich. However, my two other friends and I settled up the bill with less than $ 10 and post hangover, it hit the spot momentarily. For most people, it will be a unique experience but not a great meal. Go there for the introspection and a quick way to break your late morning, alcohol induced fast. Then move on to better food elsewhere.

Limited hours, only open for breakfast & lunch. The woman that owns the place is also the cook. Very friendly. A lot of locals hang out there in the morning. CHEAAAAP! Eggs, toast, coffee and hash browns for less than $ 4. Bacon, etc are more. Never had anything I didn’t like. Friendly, laid back, nothing fancy. Nice place.

Old school dinner type place. The food’s straigtforward, eggs, bacon toast etc. But dirt cheap and everyone’s very friendly. They’ve got a two dollar eggs toast and coffee special that’s basically as cheap as making it at home.
