We have always enjoyed the service, ambiance, wine selections and light fare/meat & cheese boards. We had our wedding there 6⁄11 and they did an IMPECCABLE job!!! It was more than adequately staffed. The food was delicious. They accommodated everything and were very flexible during the planning stages. We highly recommend Lucas for a date, night out with friends, and a venue! As a venue it was incredible: like a one stop shop! We only had to hire a photographer, DJ& string quartet, and florist!

A wine bar is generally not something I would make my way into but I am happy I did. I have never been much of a wine drinker but could not help but love the inside of Lucas Confectionary. They definitely have one of the coolest outside areas with the ability to close the glass roof! For anyone in a similar boat that has swayed away for the reason of not being a wine fan give it a shot. They DO have beers as well as the wine, and honestly always have a great selection with a few rare bottles or drafts available. This is a great chance to get away from some of the business of downtown and have a good conversation!

Wine on tap and sweets, what more could you want?! I love the Confectionary. The atmosphere and décor can’t be beat. I am a sucker for exposed brick, antique furnishings and a beautiful open patio.

Went again and was lucky enough to be served by who I learned to be their bartender and manager. This wine bar already has it all, but the service on top of it all is just exceptional. Small plates, wine, beer, cheese, meats, desserts. All so amazing. This place is unlike anything else in the Capital District. It’s so special!

Love the unique food selections, the gorgeously reclaimed industrial décor, the delicious wines and knowledgeable staff. This place is always on my list of places I want to go. I steer even my pickiest friends in this direction. Covered patio is a great, bright space. Fantastic for private events, too. This is a very cool spot and from coffee to dessert to wine to charcuterie — worth a visit!

This is a wine bar with some small plates available. It’s part after work hangout and part intimate date location. We go there for the wine, particularly on Tuesdays when there is a «troyster» plate of oysters. A particularly nice spot on the way home from wherever This for us it the epicenter of the Troy Revival. We love their special events, too..

I’ve been to lucas a few times over the past year or so. It’s always been a descent place. Tonight however, was a different case. I sat at the bar for over twenty minutes, and none of the bar tenders would even make eye contact. All I wanted was to order drinks for myself and a friend. Finally, after returning to our table and talking with a waitress do I find out I need to go upstairs to a different bar to order a scotch. The bar downstairs is only beer and wine. That would have been great to know 20 minutes ago! Never again. You’ve got a half dozen bar tenders behind the bar and they are all ringing drinks in on two ipads. Invest in some more ipads. You can afford it when you charge 16 dollars for a glass of wine. Two people should not have to wait that long to have someone at least acknowledge their presence. I don’t need to be served right away, I get it. It’s busy. But say«hi, I’ll be right with you, sorry about the wait.» Way to ruin a night Lucas.

This is by far one of my favorite hangouts in Troy New York. I am frequently pointing people in the direction of this place and the owner is an absolutely amazing guy and business owner who is passionate about the city of Troy. He is all about creating culture, in a new innovative way. They always have an ever-changing wine selection that is top notch along with high-end cheeses and meats. This is a must stop in Troy New York!

Exceptional service and a great selection of wine and charcuterie. The service here is excellent. The staff is professional and friendly. I love the intimate vibe of this place. I’ve been here two other times and I was excited to bring my husband to experience this wine bar. He was really impressed! The Charcuterie selection is fresh and they try to be as local as possible. Most of the cheeses are from Vermont farms. Some meats are from the Brooklyn area. I’ve never had better charcuterie in my life. We always get the mixed olives that have great flavor since they are enhanced by some herbs and olive oil. The night we came it was pouring rain. We walked in and were told they were having a wedding and we’d have to return about two hours later. We were so disappointed but the hostess was kind enough to give us advice on where to go nearby to hang out before we could come back. When we came back we had our selection of seats since it wasn’t too busy yet. The ambiance is amazing here. The place has the perfect balance of a modern/rustic/wine cellar vibe while incorporating the old confectionery into it too(the candy and amazing desserts). Their selection is moderate and has variety. It is not over whelming and they take pride in the wine they serve. They always allow you to try the wines before you commit as any good wine bar would. This and Pecks are true gems in this area and are hard to come by in most cities. I only wish we had a place like this in my area!

We came here last night after an unsuccessful dessert at our restaurant in Albany. We Unilocaled dessert open late and the confectionary popped up! Am I glad it did… Love the fact that it’s open late for little bites and dessert. We ordered the panna cotta and the hazelnut chocolate mousse in the mason jar. Dessert in mason jars are everything. Further, loved the décor, the waiting staff was super nice. Would definitely come back again. This place just does it right.

My boyfriend lives in Troy, he’s an RPI man, and usually when I come up here to visit, the same story unfolds. I get out of the car and drag him to Dinosaur BBQ and that’s that. And while Dino is great, I thought it was time to check something else out. And I fell in love. We went around 10⁄1030 on a Friday night, and the atmosphere was very warm — dim lights, candles, friendly faces filled with love, wine and cheese. We sat in the back underneath an awning of twinkling string lights at a long wooden family style esque table. 10⁄10 on the look and feel of the place. We saw a friend and sat with them but even if we didn’t I’m sure at least 4 people would have said hello. The wine list was very good, many selections — I picked an Italian Pinot Grigio and it did not disappoint. We had an order of the Olive Tapenade to start and I could eat that 4 times a day without getting tired of it. For dessert, we had chocolate hazelnut mousse cake in a mason jar and it was AMAZING! See photo and melt away in jealousy. To conclude, what an amazing spot. Great for date night like we did it, or a nice night out to chat with good friends. Good wine. Good food. Good people. I can’t wait to go back!

I walked into Lucas to find a beautifully decorated space. Word on the street is that these folks helped revitalize Troy. It was my first visit and I was super impressed by the adorable walkable neighborhood. Who knew! Per the recommendation of Daniel B, I went for wine and cheese for my afternoon work session. A glass of wine will do a body good for some productivity after a long drive. I opted for the Vino Verde. The wine was mineral-y, light with a hint of sweetness to balance it out. I paired it with a light snack — their charcuterie board — 3 for $ 13. Cremont, chorizo, and prosciutto. Fun fact: house-cured meats! Infinitely more delicious. The cremont was a creamy Brie-like textured cheese, but lighter in flavor. None of those things logically paired well together but I wanted to sample each of them. Go for the chorizo! I also did a little poking around as I went back to the bathroom to find a beautiful back patio with greenery woven through the open beams, which added to the romantic, bright and airy space. Great for a party! Every detail in this space is deliberate. The atmosphere is cool, trendy, and timeless.

If I’ve got friends visiting from out of town then at some point you’ll probably find us at Lucas Confectionery because I love showing off this little business. I keep coming back here because of the ambiance. Day or night, it’s always a unique spot where I find it easy to relax, chat with friends, and sip some delightful wine. There’s a beautiful amount of exposed wood and brick, Edison light bulbs strung up thoughtfully, vintage gold mirrors, Troy themed details and reminders of the confectionery that once stood like glass bowls filled with sugary goodies. The patio is a gorgeous area with a fountain and a retractable roof. All this is super charming. Their website has some great pictures so you don’t have to take my word for it. I’ve only ever ordered wine and the Monger’s choice. I’ve never been disappointed with these fancy finger foods. They’re perfect for sampling and splitting between people. One thing that does bother me is the multiple times on Friday and Saturday nights when I’ve awkwardly waited for the host to acknowledge my existence after I’ve entered the wine bar. Sigh. Service has never been a problem after I’ve been seated though.

Stopped here for drinks and dessert after dinner. We were seated in the back with our large group of 7. It was intimate and charming. We ordered the Monger’s plate of cheese which was a nice sampling of cheese and meats. Then we shared a hazelnut chocolate moose that came charmingly displayed in a mason jar. This is a great intimate hangout spot for friends or a date.

I have been to the Confectionery several times in the past 1.5 years that I have been living in the Capital Region. I’m always partial to cheese and meat, which are excellent here! I have also enjoyed their selection of wine and beer, and the servers are always helpful in selecting a good drink. I have also taken part in their grilled cheese night, which was a great price for fancy grilled cheese :). My go-to is always the Monger’s Choice though. It’s a great deal($ 26) if you split it with two other pals, and it’s pretty much never a disappointment. I don’t really know how you can ever go wrong here. It’s a super romantic atmosphere but also group-friendly. I love it when we get seated out in the back patio, which is open even in the winter! To sum up all the good things I have to say about this place, whenever I have a friend visit me, I always take them to the Confectionery, because it’s such a gem in this area!

This place is the COOLEST. The interior is the COOLEST. Exposed brick and pipelines give off a heavy and charming post-industrial feel… light bulbs illuminated by wires glowing red as coals and dim candlelight shed from candles burning in large wine glasses… all of this gives you the BEST vibe. It’s romantic. It’s got history. It feels right. Also, the wine and beer lists are the COOLEST. From $ 6 and up, it’s not pretentiously overpriced in the least. Also, a beer on their menu called YEASTIEBOYS? Yep, COOLEST. COMEHERE! Troy is the place to be.

I wanted my 500th review to be something special. The Lucas Confectionery is a form of madness. A man and his wife buy a run down building in a run down city. The guy spends a year pulling down drywall to expose brick, long forgotten windows, and even a skylight. Then he fills it with reclaimed bits of this once great town, including the tabletops which are made from marble that hung on the walls of an adjacent building. Even their espresso machine was rescued from the basement of the owner’s favorite local Italian restaurant. After he figured out how to restore it and bring it back to life, he had the good folks from Blue Bottle Coffee come up and train the staff how to make amazing coffee. It has a Brooklyn sensibility using Troy ingredients, and it succeeds at being a third space. You can do whatever you want at the Confectionery. Sip coffee and hang out on your laptop? Sure. Have some cheese and wine before dinner? No problem. Come for a civilized dinner of great meats and cheeses? It’s on the menu. A night out on the town with round after round of drinks? You bet. Stop in for a bite of something sweet to close out the night? Absolutely. Is the Confectionery perfect? Not quite. If it weren’t one of my favorite places in the Capital Region, I would give them four stars. However that’s for pretty nitpicky stuff. Still, it’s the nitpicky stuff that truly separate the best from the rest of the pack. You know, the little things like polished glassware that sparkles without any unsightly spots, and drinks served at perfect temperatures. But here, there is no rest of the pack. And that’s okay. For a region of this size it’s amazing we have a place like the Confectionery at all. I’m thrilled people have found it as delightful as I do, and continue to flock to this marvelous spot. At the same time, I’m dismayed that it’s so crowded all the time. You’ll find me there early in the week, or maybe on a Friday morning when they open early for coffee. On the weekend? That’s when it gets crowded. Most people don’t seem to mind, but I think the place is at its best when I can have it all to myself. I guess I’m selfish that way.
