The Snowman is without a doubt, my favorite ice cream place in the Capital District. This is a very strong endorsement, as ice cream is certainly one of my favorite foods. I really can’t speak for the sundaes(though they always look good), or the soft serve, because I always get their homemade hard ice cream in a cup and I’ve never been disappointed. I love that so many flavor options are offered and they are all so good! Portions are big and the prices are so reasonable. I recommend this place to everyone and haven’t heard a complaint yet!

Love the different flavors of ice cream I go with my wife at least 2 – 3 times a year and it’s the best

From opening day in spring til the day they close in fall, John and his crew are the only ones we visit for ice cream. This year’s flavor of Salted Caramel is a winner. Along with the Coffee Oreo. With hot fudge. Lines are to be expected but they get everyone served quickly. Shakes, sundaes, frozen treats, soft ice cream. They have it all and it’s worth getting through winter to enjoy all over again.

Long lines with a nostalgic feel as I waited trying to decide on what flavor of hard home-made ice cream that I want because that’s how I roll. I prefer homemade ice cream over soft ice cream any day. Soft icecream always tastes like chemicals to me. The line went quick, I decided on a hot fudge sundae with black cherry ice cream, it’s like me to order something different then the norm. It was very tasty and quenching on a hot summer night. I must say I wanted more when it was gone. There are many flavors to try so I definitely will be coming back to this gem of a ice cream place.

Finally got my husband to take me here after he fessed up that he had been here without me a few months ago. It was such a hot today, anything cold would have tasted delicious but Snowman’s is not just ANYTHING. Snowman’s is a well-oiled ice cream producing machine. They run it like a pit crew. By the time my husband finished ordering some young lady behind the scenes had assembled what turned out to be a work of art. We ordered a 2 scoop sundae. Peanut butter cookie dough and brownie topped off the the trifecta of whipped topping, nuts, and cherries. Ok and some fudge… couldn’t help ourselves. It was fantastic. It made us feel like we were cheating on our beloved Guptil’s. We were able to snag a parking space on what was a busy evening and it is charming in its own way because of the way it’s nestled into the surrounding neighborhood which makes it unique compared to many of the other local ice cream stands. It is clearly a neighborhood staple, but doesn’t offer as much seating as many of the others do which was a negative for me. That being said, if you need an ice cream sundae pronto, this place won’t make you wait. Snowman’s has speedy service and sugary sweets sure to make anyone happy.

One of the best soft or hard ice cream places around. I have introduced a few people to the Boston shake, and they love it just as much as I do! They also have ice cream pies for birthdays or other occasions!

Delicious ice cream, great customer service, reasonably priced! YUM! Only downfalls are that they are located on a busy road, and the lines can be very long! They should have more service windows for sure since they do a great business!

I’ve never reviewed Snowman! Shocking oversight on my part. Snowman has been my new ice cream hotness(coolness?) ever since moving to Cohoes. Even though the line can be 40 people deep. Along with On The Farm and the Dairy Haus, it has the best vanilla soft serve around. And don’t get me started on the hard ice cream flavors. They seem to have one or two new flavors every time I come here. There is a great variety of hard ice creams, all made in house. And I love watching the shock on people’s faces when they order a sundae for the first time and are overwhelmed by the size of it. I remember the first time I split an apple pie sundae with my wife. Memories! So good, but definitely worth splitting. So yes, the line is that long for a reason. Plus, they’ve got a bright, retro sign out front! What an institution. I love it when a neighborhood joint that’s stuck around for half a century lives up to the hype.

Banana ice cream with chocolate sprinkles… My favorite ice cream and better than any ice cream place in Upstate NY.

Boston. Shake. So wrong but so delicious. A milkshake + sundae floated on top. Vanilla with peanut butter cup sundae Vanilla with black raspberry & fudge (I like vanilla milkshakes what can i say) Let your inner eating maching out. The regular size is sufficient. I think I would cry if faced with the monster. BTW: I hate cherries. You should ask if the customer wants them. I never do. blech.

Sometimes good food(or dessert) can offset«oopsies,» which pretty much sums up my visit to Snowman. When I sampled their butter pecan ice cream, I got a bit of pecan shell. That’s bad, but the good news is that it pretty much reenforces that they make their own ice cream. Also, I ordered strawberry cheesecake ice cream, but I got strawberry instead, which is a really deep red almost the color of black raspberry ice cream. But the quality and taste of the ice cream made up for it. The strawberry had a really strong, fresh flavor, with large chunks of frozen fresh strawberries. The vanilla was some of the best vanilla I have ever had. One other thing I like is that they offer you a 1 ½ scoop option(their«small»). Others in my group raved about their shakes. All in all, this was a very good experiences, and the«oopsies» would not keep me from returning.

At first I was a skeptic. Jim’s Tastee Freeze will always be my number one because I’m from Delmar. But I have to say Snowman is just as good. Their soft serve is rich and creamy, their hard ice cream flavors are delicious. I’ve tried the Banana and the Rum Raisin hard ice cream. Both were impeccably flavored, not too sweet, they taste exactly the way they should. I’ve had some of their sundaes too, the peanut butter cup deluxe sundae is a peanut butter lovers dream. It has whatever kind of ice cream you want, hot fudge, peanut butter sauce, and chunks of peanut butter cups. All topped with whipped cream and a cherry. Their Boston shake was perfect. All of the prices listed include tax. The only draw backs are waiting in line, but the service is speedy; and parking which can be limited on busy nights. Oh and they only do cash.

My favorite. No one can beat Snowman’s Bubblegum hard ice cream, with rainbow sprinkles. I could live on it. They were out one year, so I had to go to Guptils for BG Ice cream and all they have is soft serve vanilla with a bubblegum swirl. PFFT. I’ve been going to Snowman’s since I was a little one, and carried the tradition on with my boyfriend. The lines can get a little long, and the parking gets crazy, but we’ve always lucked out and gotten a spot thus far, and everyone in line is generally in a good mood, maybe because they know they’ll have ice cream soon! :) GOHERE!

What an amazingly cool place. Snowman is a family owned ice cream business, around since the 1950’s. They are located smack in the middle of a mixed use neighborhood of apartment buildings, a saloon, and a BBQ joint. This place has character, that’s for sure. Their website boasts that they«produce all of the premium hard ice cream, yogurts, and sherbets we serve to you on premises daily». How cool is that? We ordered three cones: Peanut Butter Cup, Chocolate Chip, and Chocolate Frozen Yogurt. Oddly, they don’t sell the traditional sugar cones but do offer a cake cone and a waffle cone. The ice cream was fabulous and very reasonably priced. I love the fact that this is a local independent store and not a cookie cutter franchise. Oh — and I have to mention the cool Unilocal decal displayed on the right side window!
