I will start this review off by saying I have a huge soft spot in my heart for Truckee. The downtown Truckee area used to be a regular pit stop for my family and I during our annual ski trips. This local sweets shop was always a favorite, because duh, as a small child with a massive sweet tooth, I was always drawn into the store by the mouthwatering candies made in the front of the store and the allure of free samples. Ten or so years later, this fudge shop is still here, right where it used to be(from my memory at least!). Upon walking in, we were offered fudge samples, and I was immediately reassured that nothing has changed. Same great fudge, same beautiful caramel apples in the store front and display, and a great array of homemade chocolate and truffles. I came with a big group of friends and I think almost everyone left the store with some goodies. I of course went with the fudge. I don’t know if they had this deal in the past, but they were offering a buy 3 get the fourth free for $ 22. I believe there were 17 varieties of fudge, so choosing four was a real challenge. Eventually we settled on the cookies and cream, chocolate nut, almond toffee, and peanut butter chocolate. Money totally well spent! My friends also found that many of the treats here make for great gifts for friends, family, or coworkers, so that’s an added plus. This shop has a definite nostalgia factor for me and I hope it stays in business for many years to come!

Pluses: super fun flashback to bygone days. Great place for kids to pick some yummies. Delicious chocolates… please keep in mind this is Truckee, not Paris or Brussels, okay? Key lime chocolate, lemon chocolate, mint chocolate, and dark chocolate almond cluster all way surpassed expectations. No yucky sensation of over sugarized low quality chocolate. Instead, rich chocolaty taste with just the right infusion of mint, lemon, or key lime. almond cluster was super generous with almond and the chocolate: almond ratio was perfect. Trust me on that one. I know ;) About 10 different types of fudge. I’m not a fudge fan, but my fudge fan friend gave it strong thumbs up. The one single solitary minus: the prices are shocking. I seriously bought chocolates in Paris, Venice and Brussels for less, no kidding. But what the hec… we don’t intend on buying a grocery cart’s worth… just a few niblet treats to add to the fun of strolling down charming downtown Truckee. Plus, I’m happy to support a family business vs. chocolate at Walmart. A nice selection of chocolates and a toy each from the nutty toy store down the way made the kids’ downtown Truckee experience 5 stars.

My best friend told me she had visited this place as a child so we visited it while on vacation. Just standing outside the store they draw you in with smells of delicious chocolate. The gentleman that helped us told us they ship orders and we could order online, very friendly. We bought the caramels and had a piece each, minutes later. They were not hard or excessively chewy and melted like butter… So delicious!

Super cute little candy store in Truckee. We treated ourselves to some chocolates and split a caramel apple with almonds. It was delicious! A little on the pricy side but worth it as it was made there on site. The peanut brittle was actually cashew brittle and now I’m a true fan! I never had cashew brittle before but it’s my new fav! The young lady who helped us was friendly and allowed us samples of the fudge and brittle!(We went home with said brittle!)

Too overpriced for me. The ice cream is very good, but a scoop here is much smaller than a scoop anywhere else. Tourist trap.

It’s hard to go wrong with dark chocolate almond clusters. It’s a classic. If you sell chocolates, candy apples, ice cream and shaved ice, youve cornered the market on childhood memories. Comfort foods always do well but they do them pretty well here too. Salted caramel, toffee also ht the spot. My tastes maybe simple but they have a ton of other things to choose feom

January 18, 2015 Buyer BEWARE!!! $ 40. per lb. for candy!!! That’s PERPOUND. I strolled into Sweets and was greeted by staff. The young lady made great suggestions what to purchase. It was just me and I bought about 6 pieces of candies from their selections. She weighed it and informed me it was $ 20. I asked her what the price per POUND cost was and she told me $ 40. and smiled. There was NOSIGN showing the price anywhere. My gosh. candy is Dandy but $ 40, PERPOUND! I expect flakes of gold or platinum for that price in the candy. We have a superior Fudge Factory at High Hill in Apple Hill-Pollock Pines, CA. that makes incredible fudge at $ 12. per lb! Last time I will patronize Sweets. They won’t care because it is all tourists in Truckee, CA,. I could have purchased a fabulous steak or lobster full dinner for $ 40. that was better tasting and nutritious!

I love old fashioned candy shops. This is a sweet spot. I like how they pass out fudge samples(although I’m not a fan of fudge). We took a bag of popcorm with carmel and chocolate that was really very delicious. The real treasure here was their coffee. I got the most delicious latte. Not sure what brand beans they use but this was a really delicious drink. I was very impressed because I rarely find coffee I like unless I’m at my specific favorite coffee shops.

I love this place. I travel to Reno from the Bay Area several times each year. It has become a must-stop either coming or going home. Their fudge is amazing and the best I’ve had in years. The dark chocolate fudge is almost identical to what my dad used to make every holiday –the real stuff with butter, cream, cocoa, sugar. Their penuche is my favorite but my mom has a chocolate jones so she goes for the dark. They also have wonderful chocolate covered toffee. And their caramel apples are the real deal. Granny Smiths with real caramel. Just the best. It is pricey but it is quality and totally worth it. We’ve always had good service, even when it’s busy.

I’ve been coming here for many years, and all of my experiences have been pleasant. Watching them make caramel and chocolates is always intriguing. Just walking by the place, you are captivated by the sweet smell of melted chocolate. This is a must stop place for me.

The one thing I did like was that they had a plate of free samples. However, ten bucks for a few tiny pieces of candy is absurd. It didn’t taste remarkable either. The people working there were really rude, especially the guy. Ill just melt some chocolate and throw some almonds in it and make my own next time.

I will keep this one simple… The fudge was FRESH and really good. $ 6.50 per piece which is pretty typical of fudge. Service was average.

People were super rude to us here. I didn’t buy anything because of it. The guy who may have been the manager was evenrude when I asked him where the bathroom was. He said it was past the planet Hoth which as a star wars fan I appreciated but as a customer I knew the way he said it was not even close to being cordial.

My favorite fudge! Upon cutting a slice and putting it in my mouth, the fudge just melts and leaves a very satisfying feeling. For me, the fudge lasts a long time since the taste is so rich and satisfying. I’m always sad once it is gone, but look forward to coming back to the area to get another treat for myself and friends/family at home. My family has a cabin near here and I always love stopping by to get some fudge before going home. There are many different types to choose from, but my favorite is the regular plain fudge. There are also many other sweets that they sell, like saltwater taffy, peanut brittle, and caramel apples!

I visited this store about a month ago and was not to happy with their chocolate covered potato chips and Unilocaled about it. The owner promptly responded and we passed a few emails and she sent my husband and I a big box of assorted chocolates express mail. They were wonderful and so is she for wanting to make us happy and try their candy again. I suggested a way to do the potato chips that my husband loves and she even made a special batch of them for him that way! Thank you again! We are very happy customers! Very kind and considerate to do that for us. If every establishment came back to make their unhappy customers happy-the world would be a better place, so with that said I am giving them a «5» star rating!

Seriously over-priced. I love fudge and often will splurge on some when on vacation. Particularly for the interesting, creative flavors. But $ 5.95 for a small block? I don’t think so. I would have walked right out, but my son was begging for the caramel apple. I figured at least it was something mostly healthy right? But $ 5 bucks for a granny smith dipped in caramel without any sprinkles or anything… not so sure about that. I also tried one of their truffles and a dark chocolate haystack. The truffle was decent and I really enjoyed the haystack. But they weren’t worth the money either. Will skip this place in the future.

Picked up a box of truffles. To be exact, it was a box of 4 small pieces for about $ 10. Yes, what an expensive delight! I will say it was worth it though because my valentine quite enjoyed them :).

I took a road trip to Truckee and I needed to pick up some souvenirs. Sweets Handmade candies was conveniently located in Truckee for sweets to take home. The young gal had just finished making toffee popcorn with chocolate and nuts so I purchased a bag along with a fresh candy apple and some marshmallow fudge. Everything was tasty and super fresh and mom back home got her sweet tooth fix! Don’t forget to try the free samples inside the store.

The owner of the business recently contacted me to let me know that the employee I mentioned in my original review is no longer working there. I was impressed by the fact that the owner took the time to let me know that she read my review and wanted me to come back and give them another try because they do pride themselves on the quality of their products and customer service. Rebecca, thank you very much for your kind note and I also appreciate that you are taking steps to improve customer service at your business. For that, I am upgrading my review and hope to return in a few months with positive feedback from my next visit.
