I had a birthday recently, and was given a gift card for the Sitting Duck Taveern, a fairly new restaurant in Trumbull, CT. I heard many good things about this place, and it very different than I expected. It’s basically a large room, full service bar, and a very limited menu. As a sports bar, it’s a typical burger type of establishment. So, if your looking for a place with an extended menu, this is not the place for you. The place was very clean, open large room, and a nice place overall. I thought the food was exceptional, and, the service was outstanding. It was a very good experience. My only Issue would be the very limited food menu. I hope they add more food items to the menu. Again, overall great food, and my waitress was excellent. I will go back again soon. Four stars given because of the menu options.

Went here last night with a friend for the first time. Had the Caesar salad with beef tips. Dressing was great(authentic) and the tips were terrific. I’ll be back again!

My new favorite place. I love the atmosphere and everything I have ordered so far, has not disappointed. I have also had the same server a few times, Amy, she is the best. This is a great place to go with kids or even just to sit and relax at the bar.

Worst experience I have had at the Sitting Duck so far. I’ll give you 2 stars because the call taker was nice. Normally I will go there to eat, but tonight I decided to take it home. Mind you I only live 1 mile away. So I called in my order and talked to a young lady that was very helpful, a little hard to hear do to the nose in the back round. She told me it would be 25 minute for my order. So I got there with 5 minutes to spare. My order was sitting on the bar waiting. So I paid and drove home.(1 mile) Opened everything up and it was all ice cold. So now onto the food. I order the the Twin Lobster rolls @ $ 21.99. I know lobster isn’t cheap, but for the amount of meat there was, it was a rip off. So me being me and being in the culinary field, I decided to weight out the lobster meat. 6oz of Lobster meat stuffed into two hotdog rolls. You didn’t even toast the roll. Your menu says the lobster is soak in butter CT style. There wasn’t any butter on the sandwich or in the bag. So I had to melt my own, which was better then what I would of gotten from you. Let’s move onto the Beef Tips serve with a Black Pepper Aoili @ $ 11.99. That’s a fair price, but you sauce tasted like straight mayo. There was no spice to it, never even tasted any black pepper nor did I see any in it. Now onto the last thing we got, the Italian Parkes Parmesan wings @ $ 9.99 for 8. Most passes give 10 or 12 for that price. That’s a little high for 8 and the favor sucked. There is no other way to say it. There was nothing Italian about those wings. You can’t taste any Parmesan at all. You should of called then plain wings or lack of taste wings. This is by far my worst experience ever at the Sitting Duck. I will never get take out from them again.

Worst service I’ve ever had. I walked in with my family for dinner around 7 and was not even greeted by the host. After sitting and waiting for 10 minutes we finally get informal greeting. They give us a wishy washy response about the amount of time we would have to wait and an hour later we were still waiting. The host rudely neglected us and chatted with one of her friends while we were trying to get an update on the waiting time after an hour of just our party of three waiting. After an hour and 15 minutes we had to walk out of the place very frustrated with the unprofessional service.

Great local tavern/pub in a significantly under-served area. We had the Tavern Burger and Tavern Chicken special, as well as the kid’s Macaroni and Cheese for our children. All entrees were quite good and the burger was cooked as requested. The beer list, while not huge, had some good craft brewery draft options. The space and ambience are clearly in the tavern/pub tradition, although slightly more upscale and the service was prompt and helpful. The outside patio also looked very pleasant. Highly recommended with or without kids for Trumbull!

What a disappointment. I was thrilled when this place opened in Trumbull, because there are so few eating establishments in town, but after trying it 3 times, I won’t go back. The first time I ordered onion soup. It was this thick salty brown sludge which was inedible. I sent it back and they tried to charge me for it. The next time I ordered the iceberg salad… what an incredible rip-off for $ 8.99…really, how expensive is iceberg lettuce. The third time I went with friends. We were asked to leave as soon as we finished eating our greasy food because there was a line waiting to get in. I’m sure there was a line not because of the food, but because Trumbullites are so desperate for a local place to eat. I’m desperate for a local place to eat, but not one with mediocre over priced food. Come on, get your act together.

I was visiting a friend and we tried this place(on a Saturday night); she hasn’t been before, either. We were pleasantly surprised. The staff was very friendly. The bar tender let me test different wines before I finally decided on one! We both ordered salads– I got the goat cheese one with chicken and she got the Asian one. We agreed that our salads were definitely some of the best salads we’ve ever had! The ambiance was nice– casual and clean. I would like to go back and try other food next time I’m in town, as our salads were amazing.

I had takeout yesterday. The beef tips are the best I’ve had thus far. The bang bang shrimp were of course bangin!!!

Being a health buff and a hamburger lover, I’m constantly on the lookout for the best burger worthy of the calories my body is going to consume. No fast food for me, as most restaurants tend to have high calorie burgers that are just, well, edible. The sitting Duck has delicious burgers(comes with your choice of either salad or fries, both mouth watering) made with the finest and freshest ingredients around. Check it out when you get a chance.

Service was decent, even though my first beer was served in a chipped glass. Pub fries are the only reason I can give 2 stars. The stuffed chicken and the salmon were grossly over cooked. In fact, the chicken was i edible. If you want a place to grab a beer and an appetizer you should be ok. Also, nice décor, but very loud.

Very good Little Tavern. Reasonably priced entrees and small plates. Good selection of microbrews on tap. Enjoyed the Short Rib roasted short rib of beef, enriched jus, brussels, roasted potatoes very good. Calamari done 3 ways excellent a large portion for $ 10. 1⁄3 Mile North from the Trumbull Mall Madison Avenue side. ****1/2

I’ve been here 3 times, the food has always been excellent. The service, however, leaves a lot to be desired. I sat the bar and waited approximately 10 minutes for the bartender to come over to ask me if I needed a drink. Then I had to wait for the bartenders to take shots with a customer before I was served. I have an extremely hard time recommending this place to anyone.

Out of town to look at local colleges. Stopped here for lunch and I was not disapointed. Great atmosphere and excellent service. Food was cooked to perfection. Worth the visit.

After waiting for an hour for our food, the waiter was great and tried to convey his apologies for the kitchen, decided we’d had enough and asked for the check for the drinks. When the manager came back with the processed credit card and his apologies for the delay I knew I was done with this place. Really?! You’re going to charge me for two drinks after waiting for an hour for burgers, you can’t even try and placate us with a couple drinks and tell me the food is on its way?! We had been here a few times before and enjoyed the food, the wait staff is friendly but the kitchen is either slow or under staffed. The food is good, the duck wings are great, but after tonight and the managers handling of the delay I don’t think we’ll be back.

I was really excited when this place first opened because it is literally walking distance from my boyfriend’s house and thought it would be a great place to go when we didn’t feel like putting up with evening traffic. I’ve tried this place four times and haven’t had a great experience at all. Very limited menu; 6 – 8 entrees, salads, burgers and sandwiches. Appetizers limited as well. This is a good place if you wanna stop in for happy hour drinks and food after work. Service here is spotty and minimally attentive. One time we waited 45 mins for our apps and dinner to come only to find out they came out at the same time on a table that barely fit everything. Only a bar counter, a few booths and some tables on the side here that seat two people. Each time I came here, I got a bleu cheese burger either with fries or side salad. Fries have been different(sizes and cuts) each time I have been here. Last time I tried them, they were pretty good. Burger was a nice hefty size and didn’t have much bleu cheese but good, crispy bacon on top. Burger was super salty and super charred(and not in a good way) on the outside. Asked for medium(some pink inside) and it came out well done each time. Side salad that comes with it has good dressing but the greens are too big and need to be cut up to be enjoyed. Last time I came in, I used the ladies’ room and the lock on the door was broken and left on the sink. The other stall was a handicapped stall.

This restaurant has an identity crisis. My fiancé and I were so excited for it to open up because we live nearby and that area of Trumbull doesn’t have much going on outside of the mall. So when it finally opened we made it a priority to have dinner there. Our first experience wasn’t great, but it was good. The pretzels and duck wing appetizers are great and the beer selection is good. The ambiance is nice but it’s a lot smaller than I expected given the difficulty finding parking when the place first opened. But besides the apps the menu is limited. It’s quite literally a tavern. It’s bar food. Good bar food, but that’s pretty much it. So we determined that it’s not really a nice«restaurant.» Disappointing. But fine, no problem, they have a nice looking bar with TVs so I figured I’d come back for a football game. And I did for a Sunday 1pm NFL game. We got there early and ordered a beer. But no duck wings. What?! Ok, fine they still had pretzels. Good. But when the game started they wouldn’t put volume on the TVs so we couldn’t even hear the game. So it was a bust and we went home 5 minutes later. I’m not sure what this place is trying to be. It’s not a nice restaurant because while the food is good, it’s bar food. Wings and burgers. And it’s not a sports bar because the manager doesn’t allow you to hear the TV’s at the bar. I mean, it’s fine. Definitely get the duck wings and pretzels if you go. But personally I don’t really have any reason to go back.

Came here on a Saturday night after hearing about this place from a family member. I ordered the Baby Wedge salad with chicken. I am picky about my food, and I eat gluten free as much as possible, and I have to say, they did an exceptional job with the salad. I like the atmosphere here. I will definitely come back. I do think they could use a few more entrees and appetizers, but I think this place is appeasing for dinner or social life. Give it a whirl!

First time there. Very nice sized bar, not a ton of seating for food goers. Will be nice and have more room when patio is open in the spring. Service was very good which is rare when restaurants first open, food came out in a timely fashion considering they were so busy. We shared Bam Bam Shrimp(was delicious) and I had a burger that was very good. My wife had the grilled cheese with tomato and the tomato soup. She really enjoyed it. She felt the soup could have been thicker(I thought it was perfect) and we agreed the flavor was great. Was a bit noisy, but it’s a bar/restaurant format so you should expect that. Great start!
