Love this little mom and pop donut shop! Just down the street from work, I’ll pop in here every once and a while to bring some sweet treats in for my co-workers(but mostly as an excuse to eat donuts, let’s be real). Donuts have always been fresh and delicious, never once gotten one that seemed stale or ‘off’. They do have a great variety as well and seem to try out some new types of sweets up a every once and a while to keep things fresh. I also love their ham and cheese croissant roll and enjoy trying out some of the different savory items they rotate through. The only thing I wish they had was some better coffee offerings. They have a great standard cup of coffee, but everything else is from a machine. Nice to have the option of a latte to go however.

In town for the day and I stopped by with two boys for a snack. Grabbed a half dozen and they were all fantastic. While inside, the owner gave us samples of a few other kinds and they were all terrific!

Best donuts in Tucson — lighter and fluffier cake donuts than what the other(also 4 or 5 star) bakeries in the area put out. Good vibe in the shop too.

This is my go to spot for donuts. Most every Saturday, I get a dozen for my crew at work. The kind ladies usually make it a bakers dozen by throwin in an extra one. Unlike when I used to bring Dunkin Donuts in to work, there is never any leftovers at the end of the shift. There Bavarian filled are perfect whether you get the chocolate or the glazed. The red velvet ones are great too. I’ve pretty much tried em all; the chocolate chip, Sprinkles, maple, fritter, coconut, peanut sprinkled chocolate, etc. They’re all delicious. My personal favorite… The blueberry cake donut. So moist and glorious. I hope this place is around for years to come. Great family business.

My first time at Alvernon doughnuts was a great treat! The owners were kind and helpful, the shop was clean and orderly. But clearly the best part of the visit was the doughnuts! Favorites from the family include the blueberry cake, glazed and the strawberry frosted. My husband was thrilled with the old fashioned and the Boston cream. We have definitely found our new doughnut shop! We will spread the word.

The donuts are delicious and the service is courteous. I really wanted to tip the guy who helped me as he was so gracious but I didn’t have cash. I’ll be back!

My best friend and I have been coming here for quite some time and their donuts have been on point every single time. Every. Single. Time. They have a wide variety of donuts to tickle whatever fancy you may be in. And the owners and their kids are the sweetest and kindest people I’ve ever met and known here. It’s definitely a mom and pop type place and I love it for that reason as well. I am in love with the texture of their donuts. They are soft and fluffy. I would marry their donuts but everyone around me would save the donut from my craziness. Definitely give the small business some good olé lovin and in return they will make you fall into a donut induced coma :) P. S.- They have a drive thru!

The best doughnuts Ive had here in Tucson hands down. They are cheap delicious and the shop has a cool 1950s throwback kinda atmosphere. This place is legit. I highly recomend the chocolate covered cake doughnuts or the doughnut holes

Alvernon Donut Shop has finally ended my search for good donuts in Tucson. As expected, the donuts are fresh each morning, often coming out of the kitchen as I am picking up a 12 pack(for $ 10!!) to bring to work. The donuts are flavorful, moist, and rich, and the prices can’t be beat.

Maple bacon donuts were killer! If they would fill those things with Boston cream or chocolate or something, that would be even more awesome. The red velvet donuts were crazy good too! Get there early if you want anything red velvet or topped with bacon, they sell out fairly fast.

The interior is grimy and old school and dark. However, the donuts are so fresh and just the right amount of sweetness. I love the red velvet donut, it’s crispy on the outside and so so soft on the inside with not too much icing on top. It has no strange aftertaste like Dunkin donuts. Best place to get donuts.

I’m sorry that I have to do this, but I’ve been back several times since my first review. The donuts are still excellent. However, I’ve noticed that the glazes, like chocolate or maple, are more sweet than any other donut I’ve had here in town. Very sweet. As a matter of fact, the last time I had a bacon maple bar, I noticed a sugar buzz. Then the next time I went, the regular maple bar gave me a sugar buzz. I’ve never had a sugar buzz before, but that was it, enough for me to notice that my body was saying – Whoa!!! Just had some today, too, Chocolate, crème-filled was very sweet. So was the toasted coconut. The glazed donut holes were, OK, though. But overall just a bit overly sweet for me.

Usually before I review an establishment, I like to visit at least three times to get a feel for the menu, quality, price etc. Since Alvernon Donut Shop is more than a little out of the way for me, twice must suffice. And suffice it to say, it sufficed. All over my face. To clear up any debate: These are not in the same league as Le Caves. No one is. But put up against your local grocer or Bosa from Phoenix? Flawless Victory. ADS has a few reasons that would keep me coming back if I lived in the area. First, a very good glazed donut. Fluffy to the bite, but not a pure sugar cube like Krispy Kreme. This has a good chew to it and a very sweet glaze. This same formula was evident in the chocolate and maple long johns I ordered as well. Now, while ADS obviously has a large selection during high tide, I happened to come in both days after the fresh take had been had. So take my raspberry filled and whip cream filled Bismarck reviews with a tiny grain of salt. The raspberry filled, while a half step better than a Safeway throwaway, was just disappointing. The filling just wasn’t great. The whip cream filled on the other hand was of good quality, it’s just there wasn’t much of it. Whip cream I mean. Just kind of a thin layer within a chocolate topped bismark. Fill it up and it’s a killer, guaranteed. So listen, if you live nearby, or go to church or do something on the weekends in the neighborhood, give this place a try. I just wouldn’t drive out of my way(again) for it. Unless they have a free donut day. Btw. Really 3.5

I’m not a big fan of Dunkin donuts, and had an unusual craving for donuts so I headed here. I heard good things about this donut shop. We got the glazed, chocolate sprinkled, old fashioned, and a twisty maple long john donut. The glazed and maple donut were really good! I didn’t really like the chocolate sprinkles donut, for some reason the donut was really flat. I can’t say anything about the old fashioned since that one was for my mom, but she seemed to enjoy it. I’ll definitely be back for the glazed donuts!

This was the second place we tried on National Doughnut day as the first place had closed because they sold out before 10am. At first when we arrived, we were slightly worried that there wasn’t going to be much to choose from as there was a long line ahead of us and the case display was almost empty. But, to our surprise there were people killin it in the back making TONS more. We ended up getting the custard filled, maple and glaze. I’ve grown up eating custard filled with the fam, and this was by far the best I had ever tasted. The texture of the actual doughnut was JUST right, not hard but light and melt-in-your-mouth-doughy. Also, the perfect amount of custard, not an abundance. The maple and glazed were right out of the oven so we had to wait a couple minutes to eat it but it was delicious as well! So far, best place in town.

I went for national donut day, waited in line for about 20 minutes to get one donut, i understand its a busy time for businesses but once i got my cake donut, i went home and started eating it. I noticed a black spot in it and looking closer i realized it was a bug! Cooked in the donut! So unsanitary! Never coming back again! Ich!!!

This place is amazing! A friend of mine loves donuts, so i ordered her a giant donut for her birthday. We went in and it was so big that they had to staple two boxes together to fit it. They were extremely nice, and the place is family run so I like that. The giant donut was delicious and so much better than we expected!

The doughnuts here are good. Very fresh and big. They don’t skimp on the bacon. I found the dough to be a bit bready on some of the doughnuts, but they’re still quite good.

Admittedly NOT a donut fan, Alvernon Donut Shop has opened my eyes to a whole new glorious world. And there’s bacon in it! Wanted to surprise a coworker who was having the week from hell with his favorite treat, a glazed«old fashioned donut.» I remembered hearing him complain how the girl at Dunkin’ was clueless on what an old fashioned was so I knew I had to find a better place. Got on the phone with my daughter who pointed me in the direction of Alvernon Donut Shop. Upon entering this fine establishment I knew they’d have exactly what I wanted and it would be just what the doctor ordered for my friend. Love the vibe of this neighborhood joint… the four oldtimers gathered around one of the booths shooting the breeze gave it a bit of the old Floyd’s Barber Shop from Mayberry feel if you know what I mean. I was greeted warmly by one of the owners and she helped me pick out a dozen plain & fancy donuts, to include several old fashioneds. Had to grag a few of the maple bacon bars as well and let me tell you — it’s like heaven. Pork and maple heaven. My problem with donuts has always been that I feel a little sick and«burpy» after eating them so I stay away. It’s now been several hours since devouring that puppy(and a chocolate coconut cake donut) and I feel fine. This place is quality I tell ya. Alvernon Donut Shop is completey out of my way but I will make the trip any time anyone wants donuts. You should too!
