Nice place food about average. It’s like an upgraded Denny’s in my opinion. It is clean and well kept but I don’t see the point coming all the way here for a burger when there are better options nearby…

The last three times we’ve picked up takeout at this location, then order was filled incorrectly. Calls to management resulted in offered comps that never showed up. We won’t be going back. Three strikes = out!

I hate this place. It’s the bane of my existence. I guess my review is a little skewed, because I am vegetarian and I only get a grilled cheese and fries every time I go, but the fact that I plot on my calendar the next time I will allow myself to fully indulge in fast food via Culvers should say something. Also, their ice cream mixers are on a completely different playing field. You can seriously add anything you want to their custard, and it’s all fresh ingredients. My friend weirdly asked for coffee grounds in hers, and they didn’t even bat an eye. This location has really great staff as well. They’re all very warm and friendly, and the restaurant is spotless every time I walk in. This is a great location if you want to try out Culvers!

We stopped in for frozen custard after dinner one night in Tucson and enjoyed it on their patio. The frozen custard is reasonably priced, creamy and all around delicious.

I’m originally from Wisconsin… the home of Culvers. I’ve been eating at Culvers since the late 1980’s in Wisconsin. Well I’ve recently moved to Tucson and I can tell you this Culvers on 1’st Avenue don’t have a clue how to make the custard properly. We were served horrible, icy, grainy custard. Learn how to make the famous delicious creamy Culvers custard properly or close this place.

Cheese curds and frozen custard are two of the best things Wisconsin has produced, in my opinion with Gene Wilder being their closest competition. Culver’s has both cheese curds and frozen custard. I lived in Milwaukee, WI for 8 years, I chk consider myself well versed in the standard Wisconsin food culture. The only way to get better cheese curds and custard is to go to Wisconsin. My favorite thing on the menu here is the hot fudge sundae. Even in Wisconsin, I would go to Culver’s got there hot fudge sundae over other custard stands. Culver’s also has consistency in food preparation and quality among all their stores. Their daily custard special changes every day, and if there is more than one store in the area, they have different flavors as well. Their other food such as butter burgers, fish sandwiches, and soups are also good. However, I usually go for the custard.

It has been said that Culver’s is a MidWestern In’N’Out. I can see the comparison, but if we are talking burger-to-burger, In’N’Out has no peer(in its weight class, that is). No, Culver’s offers much more than the standard ‘burger, fry, shake” menu you find at In’N’Out. And although I like all that they do, I’m confident enough in stating they don’t do anything great. But they are consistent. Let’s talk the burger: More expensive by about $.75 than the Double Double, the Culver double cheese burger is very good. They flatten the patties on the grill, so you get a thin, yet still hardy, patty with a nice charred taste. Pickles, tomato, onion and lettuce with mayo finished it off. I’ve never had a bad burger. However, I’ve never been blown away by any burger at Culver’s, either. So there’s that. As far as the other offerings, they offer krinkle-cut fries that I could do better by going to Fry’s. Nothing special and probably inferior to In’N’Outs very average fries. The custard(I’ll respect the establishment and refer to it as custard, it seems like slightly higher quality soft-serve ice cream to me) is good. It makes for a good(but too pricey) shake, and their answer to the Blizzard, the Concrete Mixer, is better than a McFlurry(but also a lil high in coin). All of these things are good by themselves. And together, you won’t be disappointed. But you may feel a lil lighter in your wallet. And that’s my number one beef with their beef. I never feel like I’m getting quite the value I should at Culver’s. The bare bones menu I mentioned of In’N’Out’s is really the key. They can focus on making everything nearly great all the time. At Culver’s, you(and Culver’s) suffer from the paradox of choice. Where as at In’N’Out, you choose from one patty or two, at Culver’s, you can make it a melt, or add mushrooms, or or or and and and. But at the end of the day, you walk out thinking maybe the extras weren’t worth that extra two bucks. And probably didn’t make the burger two dollars better or two dollars hardier. Look, if you’re looking for a good burger and shake, or you want some fish and chips(see, they do that too! Too much dammit!) and a nice family friendly atmosphere, Culver’s has you covered. But don’t try to sell me this as a competitor to the West Coast King. Nah, son

It is fast food made with real ingredients. The burgers taste good as do the fries and onion rings. The frozen desert is called a custard but that is a misnomer — more like a frozen soft serve. There is always plenty of staff and they are bubbly and helpful. It is a quick and easy stop when you are hungry or you want your burger fix. My friend had the fish sandwich and said it was quite good.

Wow, I must say this place is pretty good. This chain is like Whataburger for us Texans. The burgers are really tasty and I love that they give you crinkled fries instead of the shoestring ones. They taste crispy and give you a different taste. Burgers are delicious and so are they cheese curds and ice cream. A little bit more pricier than Whataburger, but it is worth it. The restaurant is extremely clean, which for a fast food place is not too common, especially here in Tucson. I would definitely recommend this place.

My husband and I waited for a while for our food, and decided to go up to the counter to see if something was wrong. It turns out they made the ticket, and brought out our order to the wrong table. The manager immediately remade our ticket, brought it out to us right away and gave us our food for free. When we went back to the counter to get ice cream after lunch they paid for that for us as well. They made what was only a minor inconvenience much better by wonderful service and being so friendly. We will definitely be back to this Culvers again and I highly recommend anyone else do the same!

HAD to try Culvers since we don’t have this fast food chain in Cali or NYC their frozen custard is good! they have vanilla & chocolate at all times BUT also a flavor of the day for those who need a change –salted caramel almond: the name of the flavor speaks for itself –single patty cheddar bacon burger: i liked the crispy thin patty but the bread was a bit too dense –cheese curds: deep fried balls of cheese, reminded me more of mini cheese sticks than cheese curds, just okay solid fast food!

So, this Culvers opened around the corner from my house a few months back, and honestly– I hate fast food but being from Wisconsin I have grown up eating here and it always brings back a lot of fond memories and comfort for me. The butter burgers: they are wonderful. They aren’t «greasy», they are butter burgers. The patties are always so fresh too. Their chicken tenders might be the best thing that ever happened to chicken. The custard: it isn’t soft-serve, it isn’t ice cream, and it’s not gelato. It is custard. Custard is rich, warmer than typical ice cream, and filling. Having Culvers in Arizona is a really special treat for me. It is a constant struggle to stay away.

I was unable to write an adequate response to express my love and mild distaste for Culvers so I wrote a little ditty about it, its probably not my finest one but it gets the point across… My favorite burger in this town Culvers! Culvers! Custards are fresh I want one now! Culvers! Culvers! But there is one problem for me The food can be too greasy to eat But the moral of the story is that Culvers is my favorite fast food Favorite Fast Food

Uhmm… delicious! Fried cheese curds AND chocolate/peanut butter concrete mixers?! I died and went to heaven. Tucson NEEDS more unique restaurants like this! Also, I should probably invest in a gym membership.

Awesome place! My first time trying this place out and I am impressed! Their root beer is the best… I haven’t had good root beer since A&W Rootbeer from the tap! Burgers are awesome! Fries are given out in very small portions, no matter the size.

I am soooo angry I want to tell the world Do not eat here!!! 20 minutes each time in drive thru to get the wrong order;(((((Very unhappy!!!

Burger so greasy could barely eat it. The frozen custard tasted exactly like soft serve ice cream. The only good thing was they put a decent amount of nuts on the frozen custard.

I take the Ron Swanson approach to frozen desserts, which is to say everything that isn’t ice cream is inferior. But their Bonfire S’mores frozen custard was so good! The chocolate custard actually tasted like chocolate, and I appreciate that it didn’t turn into a melty mess two seconds after I got it. Wish it had more of the add-ins(chocolate pieces and graham crackers) but I wish that about almost any ice cream anywhere. Their coleslaw is also very good. I liked the double with mushroom and swiss, although I prefer my patties to be drier(more akin to Freddy’s). But if «butter» burger sounds appealing to you, go for it! Also, clever drive-thru system.

I really, REALLY hate writing poor reviews, but after my experience today at Culver’s I’m done with them for a while. It’s truly sad, because my very first experience with them was amazing… but these last two instances have done a serious number on my opinion. First off, the rating: the second star is for the food — that’s what saves it from a one-star review — but here’s the story that took the rating from a five to a two: A couple of months ago, when this Culver’s had its«Grand Opening» and offered a week of specials, I decided to go on the day that they had their«special» Double Butterburger basket for $ 4.99. To make a long story short, they omitted the fries off of the order and the two staff members I spoke with said that the«special» didn’t come with that, despite me asking them — and wouldn’t you think with the number of baskets going out that day, they’d know pretty well what comes with it? I went online to Facebook, commented that I was disappointed; the Culver’s Facebook representative asked me to fill out an online comment form, which I did and that was the extent of it… until a week ago. A week ago, I get a phone call from«Kevin,» who is the owner/operator of this Culver’s as well as the one down on Broadway. He apologized for the delay in replying to the comment form(he said he never received it until well after I’d written it) and could I explain what happened, which I did. He thought the situation unusual, especially since I’d spoken with a couple of employees and they weren’t understanding. I agreed, but he wanted to make things right, so he said that he would tell the manager at the First and River location to comp me a free meal when I came in. I told him that it wasn’t necessary; that I was just wanting acknowledgement that there had been an issue, but he insisted that he would make it right. He gave me his cell phone number«in case there’s a problem» but was sure all would be well. Flash forward to 60 minutes ago, when I walk into Culver’s and tell the cashier who I was and explained that Kevin was supposed to have my name on a list for a comp meal. She looked puzzled and I explained again, and she excused herself to talk with someone(the manager on duty, I presume). Next thing I know, I have this guy with a gigantic ledger-like book paging through saying, «no, there’s no record of Kevin saying anything, but he’s not here anymore.» I asked if we were talking about the same Kevin — the owner? «He’s not here, your meal must be at the Broadway location.» I said that I didn’t think so and that Kevin was pretty clear on where the issue had happened and that he was going to tell the manager of this location — who I believe was named Ed – to make a note of my free meal. He said, «he’s not here, he’s working at Broadway, I don’t have your name.» It was said pretty dismissively and so I just said, «okay, that’s fine, no worries. Kevin asked me to call him if there was another issue, so I’m going to do that, but I understand, I’m not on there, so I’m just going to head out.» An aside: I really could have cared less if I got a free meal or not, truly. I was pretty surprised, however, that according to this guy, Kevin hadn’t followed through, or if he had, it hadn’t been communicated. So my comment about«contacting Kevin» wasn’t anything angry or pouty, it was simply going to be «hey, Kevin, maybe you forgot? It’s okay, though»…but I didn’t get that far. The guy cut me off and said, «your name isn’t here, I can’t help you.» And THAT is what ticked me off. Total attitude. So I simply said, «well, okay, I’m just going to leave now.» And he said as I walked out, «and you have a good night, sir!» I called Kevin and was going to leave a voicemail explaining that there appeared to be a mixup again, when he answered. I explained what had happened and he said, «well, I’m in Minnesota right now, but go back in and I’ll call the store and explain.» I said that I was a little too annoyed by his supervisor’s(?) attitude to have any desire to go back in. I thanked him for at least trying to make things right and he said, «no, I can make this right, go back in» and I declined again, because at this point, I’d had enough.(This was supposed to be my reward for a crap day at work, but you can surmise THAT didn’t happen, LOL :)) Here’s how I’m leaving things: I have no idea if Kevin actually called the store or not. I may — and it’s a big«may» — go back and inquire if I have a comp, but I may also just wash my hands of the whole damned thing. If I do go there again, more than likely it’ll be because one of my friends has a craving and I’ll pay for my meal. I can live with that. What I hope is that Kevin will realize that his supervisors and other managers copping an attitude with a customer who is genuinely trying to accept the second chance they were asked to give Culver’s is NOT how you retain customers. It’s really sad. :(

I was delighted to have a Culver’s move into my neighborhood, and I know that it will become a habit. I like the variety on the menu, and I’m sorely tempted every day by the flavor of the day sign outside the store. Takes real willpower to keep on driving. The food is fine, as expected for a chain and a little better than most fast food places. The salads are excellent. We had an interesting experience. My husband ordered the green beans as a side dish. They were cooked perfectly, but loaded with onions, which neither of us can eat. Since the menu said nothing about onions, we didn’t know. He mentioned it to a young man who came to fill our water glasses and he took the dish to the kitchen and came back with one sans onion. 2nd visit, we saw the same young man behind the counter. My husband gave his order to the woman at the cash register and asked for green beans without onions. She turned in confusion to(I guess) her supervisor, and said«how do I ring that up?» The supervisor said, «it can’t be done. We can’t serve green beans without onions.» My husband pointed to our original green bean server and explained what had happened. Everyone behind the counter shook their heads and said they didn’t know how that happened because the green beans are premeasured WITH the onions. We just could not get green beans without onions. Then the manager-guy said that the only way that could happen was if they just had opened a new package of green beans and hadn’t added the onions yet. Sounds to me like they COULD serve it without onions, and his response should have been,” let’s see what we can do for you”, instead of «It can’t be done.» But I won’t let this very small gripe get between me and that ice cream!
