Have been a member for over 25 years! Love the amazing selection and friendly staff. I love their pricing guarantees. Check them out if you are buying things for your home but don’t expect Walmart quality from them.

My wife and I noticed the new Direct Buy near hour home in Tucson and stopped in for the open house. We did not have a lot of time and walked around briefly. All was very friendly and we were invited to make an appointment and come back when we had more time. We made the appointment and returned in a week to see what the club was all about. There was a hour long presentation which tried to get audience participation to «buy into» the facts and figures the presenter was throwing out on how much you will save. He kept it very sketchy as to costs of shipping, shipping times and return policy. Only at the VERY end of the presentation did he bring up that there was a $ 4000 membership fee up front. Not a word was said during the presentation that you had to make a decision on the spot and pay if you you wanted to join. Well…$ 4000 was a pretty hefty fee but we still were interested and not turned off yet by the money. We took a little time and looked through some of the books with one of their assigned sales people. Some of the prices seemed like a very good deal and we were actually leaning toward joining… UNTIL we got the«you must say yes or no on the membership NOW» from the salesperson. We told him we liked what we saw but would go home and discuss it and let him know our decision. At this point we went from a friendly atmosphere to a hostile adversarial one. The salesperson started becoming a «wise ass» and talking down to us like we were too stupid to realize what a great privilege they were offering us. I did not tell him I was an attorney. My wife and I are both pretty frugal and sharp with our finances and discuss the pros and cons of all major purchases and never have buyers remorse as a result. However, when we were told that we had to make a decision then and there and could not think it over I went from leaning toward joining to KMA and walked out! I did not care at that point if it was a free membership because it was crystal clear what kind of people you were dealing with. DONOTTRUSTTHEM! Remember that old saying that there is no such thing as a free lunch. If you are too eager for a Great deal you are an easy«mark». I would strongly suggest that anyone considering this club read the many complaints on line. You also need to understand that each of these locations are INDEPENDENT franchisees and what happens with your membership fee if he goes out of business next year? Since I did not join, I can not tell you if the whole price savings pitch is a scam or not. However, when you get an unethical high pressure sales pitch to join, you know you are dealing with a bunch of con-artists. This is my two cents — -buyer beware!

On January 23rd ’09 my wife and I toured the local(Tucson) DirectBuy showroom, and after about an hour and a half of their«sales indoctrination» decided it might be a good investment to pay $ 5718.19(membership + tax) to join. However, after sleeping on the membership for the night(you have 3 days to change your mind), we decided, at our age of 65, and in consideration of what high end items we might replace in our remaining years, we decided to invoke the DirectBuy cancellation terms. Accordingly, on January 24th, at 1100AM, I personally went back to theshowroom, and spoke to the two people(Jim and Danielle) that had set us up, and turned in our signed in cancellation notice. Here is where the management policy of this outfit turned from being concerned, polite sellers, into one with a misguided understanding of how to build a satisfied customer base. DirectBuy states your cancellation will take up to 15BUSINESSDAYS before you get your money back. We all know it takes about 30 seconds for a vendor to debit your account when you buy something, which it did when we signed up, and it takes the same amount of time to credit your account when you return the item. This letter of dissatisfaction is being written on February 10th, and DirectBuy has still not credited my AMEX account! This is totally un-necessary on DirectBuy’s side, and only has produced a very, very unhappy former customer who will pass the story on to anyone who might otherwise have an interest in joining the outfit.
