Guillermo’s is a childhood staple, my nana took me as a little kid and my parents would dine her frequently. This place holds a special place in my heart but the food depending on what is ordered may either be authentic or mediocre. The caldo de queso is well made and usually has big chunks of cheese. Today, I strayed away from my usual soup order and got the no.8 cheese enchiladas, they felt slightly heavy and the sauce tasted canned. Rice was not homemade but maybe a mix. The one great thing about this place is the customer service, waitresses and waiters are always filling up chips, salsa and refilling drinks !

This is a great second choice if you can’t stand the lines across the street ;) seriously though this place has great food. The staff is warm and prompt. The restaurant is large and spacious and you’re guaranteed to be able to walk right in and get a seat. food is delicious and they have some excellent recipes. Their carne asada(cubed steak) is likely the best thing they make, and you can get it I top of anything(great on chili relleno). the prices are pretty reasonable. We usually spend about $ 30 for 2. Bottom line give it a shot. You’ll be happy you did.

Three stars for just fine but not great. First time there –we usually head for Mi Nidito across the street but Monday they are closed so gave us a good reason to try Guillermo’s. I now know why their parking lot is empty when Mi Nidito’s is open. So I will just not go on Monday’s. The staff was very friendly, the place clean. the food mediocre but still edible. The soup was Ok(abondigas) The enchilada sauce had a canned and somewhat tasteless character. The refried beans plain with no flavor added and the rice generic barely brown and not seasonings. Lets just say if you need to avoid the Mi Nidito wait go ahead and give this one a try but beware there is no comparison with the superior food at Mi Nidito or Taco Giro.

When i was a child i use to love this place. The chimichangas were to die for, but as I dropped in after my Christmas shopping today, it was utter disappointment. I take my mom and i order a chimichanga carn seca enchiladas style with rice and beans and i order my mom her favortite which is the chicken Topocco salad. Well all of it stunk. I got a chimichanga with no flavor. The meat inside tasted like just dry meat you cook with no spices or flavors. I was absolulty horrified by my mom’s salad too. The chicken tasted frezer burnt and stale and half of the element’s in the salad was old. Don’t get me wrong the wait staff was polite and very good, it’s just the food that had no love and no taste in it. I hate paying for food that doesn’t have any flavor, i may just as well have eaten at a barracks with a microwaved dinner, it would have been 10 times cheaper, but with the same taste. Not coming back here ever again, it was just a mear childhood memory with hit or miss good taste. My money is not worth the inconsistency of this restaurant anymore. By far, Little Mexico, still has the best consistance chimichangas in town.

Not great. The marguerita was weak; you need to bring your own flask in order to bring it up to par. The veggie burro was nasty — the tortilla was all raw and doughy. But I guess that’s my fault for ordering the veggie burro but come on, a Mexican restaurant with nasty-ass tortillas?

LOVE this place!!! Delicious Mexican food. I’ve seen the owner a few times when I’ve been there, and he is the nicest man! Super down to earth and very concerned about each and every customer. Every time I’m in the area, that’s the place I want to eat!

Favorite Mexican Restaurant in Tucson! Great staff and wonderful decorations. The best part is, of course, the margaritas!!! Delicious!

It’s a holiday we were thankful they were open until we tasted the salsa and food. The salsa is a pizza sauce(tomato sauce and a spice of some sort in it but nothing that should be labeled salsa by no means). The tacos barbacoa, carne seca and carne asada… have no idea what they substitute but far from what the tradition is. I have never seen carne asada served with a load of pepper and a grey color to it. The Caldo de queso flavorless. The best thing was the tea and that depended on who served it one was great and the other had a raspberry taste to it. No question staff is friendly but the cooking is tasteless and terrible. Shame they are able to call themselves a Mexican restaurant. The food is so altered from what traditional Mexican food is it was a huge disappointment. This was the first and last time we venture here.

Tried to get in to Mi Niditos but due to the long wait we ended up here. It was pretty busy but we were seated immediately with chips and salsa on the table within seconds! Our server was friendly and very attentive(i took a sip of water and it was refilled). I had the chicken fajitas and they were phenomenal! Definitely will be back for the margs too

If you are looking for authentic Mexican Food, then give this place a try. They have some of the best food in Tucson. The prices are reasonable, the service is friendly and quick, and the atmosphere is authentic. I love the stacked enchiladas, with an egg on top. The Green Chili is wonderful, and even though I’m not that much of a red chili fan, I do like theirs. As a native of AZ I’ve had Mexican food all over the state, and this is one of my favorite places.

Right across from Mi Nidito is Guillermo’s. You might call this is the Castle of Tucson’s south side. Just ask the guard in the tower. It is very spacious inside and its décor is similar to its sister restaurant, Cinco De Mayo. Guillermos was the original location so everything inside is more vintage. The menu is the same at both locations. Service was friendly, prices were fair, and the food was decent/good. If you need something sweet after your meal, you can go to the counter and get gum or candy. While much of it similar to other restaurants in the area or in town, this place get’s the benefit of having nothing negative to note. The portions aren’t the greatest, but they give you enough to leave with the tummy satisfied. Give this place a try, as it does represent the iconic restaurants of the area.

I am siting in the restaurant as I type this and my friend and I have been sitting here for 20 minutes and we barely received our drinks. This is not great customer service. Also, it’s not considerate of the guest during their limited lunch hour.

Ended up here because the palce across the street was too crowded, and the gal at our hotel suggested this as an alternative, and I was quite pleased. I had a carne asada chimichenga enchilada-style, meaning drenched with red sauce… wow…so flavorful! The salsa that came with the chips was awesome. Colleague had the fish tacos which he said were really good(a satement evidenced by his practically inhaling them). If I ever find myslef back in Tucson, I’d certainly be up for a return visit to this place.

Service was friendly and attentive especially for our large group of 17 loud adults. Enough room to comfortably seat us without an issue. The staff was amazing and very helpful. Unfortunately the food was not as good as one would expect. Main reason why I gave them 3 stars was because of the staff, not the food. The salsa with the chips was more like tomato sauce and did not taste or even had chunks of tomato or onions. It was sweet but when we did mention that it was not spicy our server did get us one that had a kick. The guacamole was just tasteless and need seasoning. It tasted more like unseasonably potato salad but with avecado. I had the chicken and beef fajitas served the traditional way. One large tortilla which was enough but I asked for corn and it was corn. The chicken and beef were overcooked and dry. There was enough for a typical dinner. Overall the positives are space, service and price so you decide if that is enough for a visit.

I was invited to join a group of about 30 people who hold a monthly lunch here. After seeing some not-good reviews on Unilocal,I had some reservations about what I would find. But, I was pleasantly surprised by both the food and the service. Many restaurants have trouble with handling larger groups efficiently, but these guys had it down. There was one busboy who regularly came around, replenishing the free chips and salsa — we never had to ask for more. And, they were both good, the chips freshly warmed and the salsa nice and spicy, with many bits of fresh cilantro floating in there. Our waitress very efficiently took individual orders, served the food up flawlessly to this large group, and brought out our individual checks at the end(a modest tip included), with payment handled efficiently up at the front desk. I ordered the shredded beef flautas, and they were excellent. Two very crispy flautas, more than an inch in diameter and about 7 inches long, with shredded cheese and some lettuce on top, with guac and sour cream on the side. I am glad I opted not to get the additional rice and beans, as I had all I could handle to finish this excellent dish. My neighboring eaters had chimichangas and taco salads, and both looked very inviting. I heard nothing but praise for the food at our table. I was very favorably impressed, and look forward to next month’s meeting here.

I came in since I was heading to Mi Nidito across the street but they were closed for the holidays I presume. We were sat very promptly and served ice water, warm chips and salsa. Problem number one, the salsa that was served tomato sauce with chili pepper of some sort. Next we ordered our drinks at food at the same time. Me and my roommate ordered margaritas and our food. Problem number two, margaritas were brought and they tasted like airplane margaritas. I kept mine because I don’t like to waste liquor and my roommate sent his back. The food arrived the same time we sent the drink back, the server then advised that he would bring a beer instead and silverware. Problem number 3, five minutes we sat staring at our food just able to pick at it. He brought the beer forgot the utensils. He did bring them back under a minute. We asked for more water and it was warm with no ice, really?! I tasted mine and I was done. The last problem and final straw. The beans was tasteless and had no flavor. My taco was on tortilla that look like, felt and tasted like it was just removed out of some luke warm package. I sent it back and they removed it off the bill. On the building it states that they be in business since 1940 something. I doubt the same cooks or management is still there. I feel so bad to leave a review like this but you have been warned.

We ovecame here as our other two favorites were closed today. Now we have three favorites while driving through Tucson! This is the first time we’ve been to this restaurant and found it delightful. Service and food were great. Prices were quite reasonable, with the exception of the sopapliias which were pricey and not all that good. I liked how everything is seasoned. El N id

I’m going to go with a 3.25 on this one. I love the south side staple. Only discovered this place as most people do because Mi Nidito was closed oops! But hey it was worth going here instead. This is about my 5th time here and the food is yummy. The service leaves something to be desired. Some waitresses are great some are ok. Try the fish or shrimp tacos! The rice is great with the refried beans. Portions are good sized. Check this place out at least once. Faves: shrimp tacos and fish tacos

Me and the hubs in all honesty only stopped in here for a quick Margarita before trying Mi Nidito across the street, which has no bar. No bar? I know, baffling! But Mi Nidito has a 45 minute wait so we tried Guillermo’s! We each got a Cadillac Margarita(good olé’ gran Marnier and Patron!) And nibbled through some chips and salsa The mild salsa tasted like ketchup but the hotter had good heat! I may be back to try their food, but mostly to kill time before Mi Nidito

I discovered this place like many others have. Because Mi Nidito was closed, and this place located across the street was open. Now it is my favorite go to Mexican restaurant when I am in this area. It is like a «dive-bar» Mexican restaurant. I mean that as a compliment. It has all the cliches covered. Dusty sombrero on the wall, faded oil paintings, And of course pipped in mariachi music to Serenade you as you enjoy your meal. Speaking of the food, I have never had a bad meal here. I usually come here for lunch and order whatever the special of the day is. It is always plentiful, tasty and a ridiculously affordable. I usually accompany my meal with an ice cold mug of Dos XX Amber. Served with a dried out lime slice.(that is my only complaint) If you are looking for a fun, affordable authentic retro-Mexican Tucson experience: this is the place.
