I’ve lived in Tucson most of my life and never miss a chance to eat here. Some people have given mediocre to bad reviews but every place makes a bad impression once in a while. This is as good as Mexican food gets in the USA. You can expect a wait, 30 – 45 minutes is typical. You wait because a lot of people want to eat here. Enjoy an ice cold Tecate beer in the bottle with a lime wedge, sip it while you wait. The service is very good usually, the place is friendly and family run. And the prices are very reasonable.

Some friends requested authentic Mexican food. They suggested ‘On The Border’, we laughed and forgave them since they are from Florida. Called ahead to find out there was a 30 min wait on a Sunday around 2pm. Glad that wasn’t a surprise, I was realllly hungry and hadn’t eaten breakfast in anticipation of THIS meal. We ordered allll kinds of stuff between the 4 of us. The guacamole is great!!! The salsa a little spicy, I didn’t mind. Everything smothered in beans and cheese, fresh tortillas… this place is an absolute MUST! Don’t expect a beautiful presentation, however, DO expect amazing food.

What awsome food! We got there around 8PM and still had to wait 30 min for a table on a Wednesday evening! Extremely popular. Jim Belushi and former President Clinton have eaten here along with numerous other famous people. The house margarita is great! I had the Carne Seca(reccomended by Adam Richman on Man Vs. Food). It was everything he said it would be! So full of flavor, I couldn’t get enough. I will go again the next time I visit Tucson.

Recommended to us as most authentic Mexican restaurant in Tucson, so we went. OK food, but disappointing. We have been to other Mexican restaurants with food that had much better flavor. We had the flauntas and enchiladas. We won’t go back. The people were great. Be prepared for a long wait if you go.

Probably the best Mexican food I’ve ever had, but on top of that, the service was extremely good. Their claim to fame is the fact that Bill Clinton stopped by for a meal in 1999. What’s good for Bill is good for me.

When I lived in Tucson I came here a lot. In my opinion it is the best Mexican food in Arizona. You will have to wait though didn’t matter what time you come. Their Chile Relleno I have had anywhere. Lots of pictures of famous people who have eaten here.

Great mexican food if your are in the Tucson area. We make a stop in every time we are in town and this spot never disappoints. There is a huge presidential platter for your big eaters. I really enjoy their albondigas, and tamales.

I loved the food. Hubby and I shared the presidential platter and a bowl of menudo. My husband is from San Diego, where they take a lot of pride in their mexican food. With each bite of the food at mi nidito, he sighed and shook his head saying: «I can’t believe how good this food is.» Indeed, the spices, the flavoring… the chile relleno was great, the chicken enchilada was amazing, the tamales was the best I’ve ever had… and the shredded beef taco was tasty. the only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the bean-taco salad thing on the plate. I think that’s just because it paled compared to everything else on the platter. If I ever visit Tucson again, I will visit here. The wait was not too bad either.

The best Mexican restaurant in the state of Arizona. I was raised here, my sister went to U of A, I always get the same thing. The Chile Colorado is out of this world, and I always take home salsa y tortillas!

We had a good meal and service was excellent. My shredded beef chimichanga was tasteful but very dry. This is very popular place as it was constantly crowded on a Sunday afternoon. I did taste an enchilada which was very good. I did not like the salsa. It may have just been the runny style vs I like some chunky salsa.

OK, from NorCal passing through. Buddy says you gotta go here. Waited 35 minutes until 8:15pm for mediocre service and mediocre food. The Presidents plate wasn’t all that and my daughters burrito was inferior. What I really find hard to fathom was the largely Hispanic clientele, maybe it’s like a Mexican McDonalds. Save your time and money. The Trappey’s cayenne sauce on the table was the first clue! Yikes!

As per hunting tradition, my husband and I dined here this evening. We did experience a wait to be seated, but the food is well worth it! My husband enjoyed the president’s combo and managed to finish about half of it. I conquered about a third of the #5 Green Chili Carne. Both were phenomenal! Couple that with salsa that we get cravings for and refreshing margaritas and you’ve got a sure food coma coming! I wish we lived in Tucson just so we could enjoy this tasty paradise more often. Service was friendly and atmosphere is pleasant. I highly recommend this wonderful place as long as you come hungry and patient.

After I finally found them hidden on a side street I luckily only had to wait 5 or so minutes for a table. Although the restaurant was crowded and busy the service was still good, if a little slow. The restaurant is fairly small so the seating is pretty close together so this would probably not be the best place to be private or have a conversation that you don’t want overheard. I ordered the Green Chili Enchiladas and they were amazing. Why do places in California not use green chili like they do in Arizona and New Mexico? It is seriously delicious. So anyhow, yes the enchiladas were tasty and cheesy and I wish I could eat about 100 of them. This was my favorite meal I had while in Tucson.

I’ve passed this place several times and finally caught them open. Not quite sure why it’s packed with Celeb photos but Its a very popular location offering some authentic Mexican cuisine. Food is great and the margaritas are exceptional. Great service. I can’t wait til I take another road trip through town.

It was my second time here today and still just as delicious. We got there at about noon on a Sunday and had about a half hour wait for a table. The waiting room is small, but a lot of people were enjoying frozen margaritas while they waited, which seemed to help the time speed by. The service wasn’t super attentive, but I can’t really blame him since the restaurant was so busy and he was taking care of a lot of tables. We ordered the birria chimichanga and the President’s Plate(bean tostada, birria taco, chile relleno, chicken enchilada, and beef tamale). The birria meat, which is spiced(but not spicy) beef was so tender and juicy. Paired with the crispy fried tortilla of the chimichanga and the cheese on top, it was the perfect meal, even without rice, beans, sauce, or sour cream. The chile relleno was delicious. Last time I was there, it was almost too spicy to eat, but it must have just been a fluke, because today’s was mild and tasty. The taco was crunchy and stuffed full of birria meat, lettuce, and cheese. The tamale was creamy with plenty of filling and covered in a flavorful red sauce. We couldn’t get through all of the food, so we brought the beans and enchilada home to have later for leftovers, but from what I remember, the beans were creamy and the enchilada was great. Next time I think I’d like to try the napolitos(prickly pear cactus) for something regional and unique.

Mi Nidito should be renamed«Mi Amorcito«. I love this place, the food, the ambiance, the people, make it a great place to eat. I had the Cocido and the Tamales… mmmm what can I say delicious. The tamales were creamy, the meat was tender and the flavor out of this world. Hands down the best tamales I have ever eaten, the Cocido was great as well, nice tender chunks of meat, hearty vegetables and a big serving. Our server(sorry I forgot to ask her name, was very courteous, friendly and attentive to our very needs even though the place was packed as always. I would 110% recommend anyone to eat here!

3 ½ stars!?! WHAT!?! Ok…All Unilocalers, ignore the stars and come here. I have been eating here since I was a little boy. If you want legit Mexican American food like your nana makes, come here. Never have had a bad meal or experience. Will you wait? Um… anything this good is worth waiting for. If you want Chik-Fil-A«my pleasure» service, don’t come here. However, many of these employees have been working here for years. I feel like I’ve seen some of these folks since I was little. Now, I need to place my order!

Yummy yummy in my tummy; living this close to the boarder you can’t help but love Mexican food & Mi Nidito knows real traditional Mexican food! This place is so delicious even a former president has eaten here & in fact they have a combination plater named the El Presidente loaded with lots of the favorites from the menu. The frozen margaritas are delicious and come in a variety of flavors. The fresh chips & salsa that you begin with are a sure fire way to get you started & wanting more. Love the flavorful beans & rice! The plates are extremely loaded with more than enough for the largest appetite, love this place

In my experience I don’t understand why people have said the food is bland. I have never been disappointed when eating here, nor has anyone in my group. Every time I come to Tucson, I make it a point to dine here. Their claim to fame is that Bill Clinton dined here long ago, and they were also featured on the show Man vs. Food. The wait to be seated is always 45 minutes to 2 hours long. You can order alcoholic beverages to enjoy in the waiting area while you wait. Mi Nidito is always packed, and for good reason! My favorite dish is the Birria combo plate. It includes a large portion of tender and juicy birria, beans and Mexican rice. The rice is a bit bland but I like to pour salsa on top. On the side, you receive an extra large flour tortilla that you can use as a vessel for the meat, rice and beans. The Birria is so tasty and packed with flavor. The meat is well cooked so that the shreds of beef are very tender. My sister likes to order the Chicken Topopo Salad. This is a heap of iceberg lettuce topped with a heap of shredded chicken, cheese, and other fixings. It is actually pretty filling but doesn’t make you want to roll yourself out of there like most Mexican dishes do. The chips and salsa that are served before your food max out at 2 servings. All other servings are .75 cents each. This pretty much sets the tone for the restaurant as you are charged for every little thing that you want to add to your meal. They even charge for a side of hot sauce. Whie I find that to be tacky and cheap coming from a sit-down restaurant, I’ll continue to get my Birria fix from Mi Nidito every time I am in Tucson.
