Nice park. Not as good as Reid park or Columbus park but not bad. There is ample parking. In the main grass area, there are some trees, ramada structures, and benches. There is a baseball field with a fence, a tennis court, a pool, a playground, and more. Lots of possibilities for different activities. The other side of the park is made up by a little lake. I really like going for a little walk around the lake. The water is a nice blue and there are some ducks swimming around. The water by the shore is shallow, so you can take off your shoes and wade a little in the water. The lake is also for fishing. The crowd that comes here seems to be mostly parents with their kids. They are picnicking, using the playground, playing soccer, using the baseball field, etc. So if you don’t like the chatter of little children and occasional yelling, this place might not be ideal for you. Besides parents with children, there are some people fishing at the lake and some people walking their dogs. As other reviewers mentioned, the main disadvantage of the park is that there is some trash and broken glass on the ground. It is not like the park is «covered» in trash but it is not as clean as, say, Reid park.

I have spent many a morning watching the sunrise over the water of this park. I have spent many a day just hanging out feeding the ducks and enjoying the water. Today was the last day that I’ll be there so it was nice to get one last visited. Sometimes there is trash in the water and other things, but the water is stunning well worth the trip

You’ve heard of the little train that could? Well, this so badly wants to be the little park that could. Sadly, it will take the efforts of everyone who enjoys this place to help get it turned around and allow it to shine as it so badly desires. The park is huge, spanning both sides of La Cholla. There’s hiking into the foothills of the Tucson Mountains, a band stand(sort of), a lake(pond?), swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds, even a public library bordering it. Add to that plenty of picnic areas and what’s not to like? Well, frankly, the 1%‘ers. The few, the sad, the degenerate. Those who leave fishing lures and line strewn across the rocks. Those that leave dead fish on the banks of the water to stink up the area. Those that litter the water and the grounds all around the park. Those who bring glass bottles, despite the rule against them, and simply don’t care when said bottle breaks leaving glass all over. One reviewer mentioned the beautiful view across the lake at sunset. Yeah, I must agree it is quite beautiful. Peaceful even. Sadly, if you turn around though, the view is of that lovely sunset shimmering off all the glass bits broken and littered about the park’s grounds. If something could be done to stem this ignorant behavior, this park really could be the gem of the west side.

The park is usually full of families and little ones, running and yelling about. Most people seem to come for sizable gatherings — parties and BBQ fests. Some just hang in their cards and talk. Others walk about with their dogs. The only disadvantages I have experienced thus far is that there is a mild smell stewing in the water and a bit of trash littered about. But the best part? The look and sound of the water at dusk, entering night, is so very, very lovely. Meditative really. But if you are interested in the gentle twilight, come as it is hearing dark and find a nice, empty stretch and just stand there watching over the water.
