The best bakery in Tucson. Fantastic breads, great pastries. Friendly people behind the counter.
The multigrain and eurograin breads are my favorite, while the French box is great for butter-​and-​jam. The sticky buns, the cinnamon rolls, they’re great — but the real treat are the chocolate and raspberry croissants.
The fruit tart cakes are really good, for a special occasion.

Just moved to Tucson and I was very thrilled to find a ”French” bakery. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The Pain Epi (bread) a had no taste and was very chewy!
I bought also a peach turnover and really think that the baker forgot to add the peach. It was very doughy and sweet.
This place does not meet the basic standard of a French bakery/​pastry! Dommage!

In the past I’ve gotten Birthday cakes from here. They’ve always been exactly what I wanted, very pretty, moist and tasty. Just need to be sure to order in advance.
Their other baked goods are sometimes on the drier side– cinnamon rolls are usually kind of dry and not much frosting. I don’t know why I never learn my lesson with those.
What always brings me back is their breads. I almost didn’t grab one to take this morning but remembered at the last minute. In particular their baguettes (today I picked the artisan) are some of the best I’ve found in town. The consistency and texture is always perfect.

Not much of a selection. Went for macarons and they are tiny and nothing special. Kind of an eehhhh place.

Parents got me a fruit tart for my birthday from here :) so delicious. I didn’t want to share… Will be back for more treats!

I’ve been here a few times and sadly left with wanting more, but I come simply due to its convenient location. Their bread is much better than their pastries, which are rarely available after morning time. Stick to the breakfast pastry items instead of dessert pastries.

Great staff — Dee’s Ghinni’s t-​shirt and hot pink shoes caught our eye — personable, professional, and attentive. Spinach crepes and French toast were superlative, as are the individual opera cakes and much more in Ghinni’s father’s bakery next door. A local gem.

Love being able to purchase fresh bread and baked goods so close to home. My favorites are their Pull Apart Cinnamon Rolls and Almond Danish.

This place needs some PR cause it’s a hidden gem.
The place itself can use some remodeling on the inside: the shelving units and the display cases but the main part here is the bread and they know bread!
The baguettes in the small buns are perfect and just like a bread should be: with the right texture and not spongy like grocery store «bread».
Wish they would be open till 7 cause I always miss them due to traffic but it’s definitely worth the detour!

I come here after I’ve been to AJ’s Fine Food Bakery, to get the same pastries at half the price. Nice, but not a huge selection of breads and pastries. Get there early for the best selection. I like a place where I can pick up a Napoleon for right now and a fondant iced cake for the week. Don’t go on Sunday though. They’re closed

This place is great! I stop there on my way to work and their pastries are always fresh and delicious! It reminds me of Paul’s bakeries from Europe. I have been looking to find a place like this in Tucson and so happy I was able to find it!!!

I adore this place! Once upon a time, when no one had ever heard of gluten, I would get the croissants from this bakery — to die for! Light, flaky, buttery, perfect! Now that I’m gluten free, I go here for one of their two decadent gluten free cakes. One has an amaretto filling, the other strawberry. You can’t believe they are gluten free! They offer them by the slice or whole. One day, when I went to get a piece of cake, the gal behind the counter said: «Since you’re getting this cake, I just wondered if you’d like a loaf of gluten free bread. We don’t always have it, but we made a few loaves today.» It had been months since I’d had bread, let alone freshly made bread — what a treat! What is more, she took my number and now whenever they bake the gluten free bread, they call me and will reserve a loaf until I can get off work and get over there. Now that’s service!

My favorite French bakery is Tucson. The owner, Norbert, is from Marsielle and make wonderful bread and pastries. Our family loves his fruit tarts the most. If you want a sit down breakfast /​lunch, ghini’s is adjacent to the bakery. Try eggs provencale.

Two words. Bear claw.
I am currently enjoying one of these delicious, flaky, chewy, sweet creations. It has just enough crunch from the almonds and a little bit from the dough. Wonderful.
Plus the girls behind the counter are always helpful and pleasant in the morning!
Great place to start off my day when I am on that side of town. If you are in a hurry, grab a ham and cheese croissant to-​go, they will even heat it for you.

After a nice lunch next door at Ghini’s, we wandered to La Baguette for dessert. It’s a small bakery filled with baguettes, eclairs, fruit tarts, cakes, and lots of cookies and pastries.
The éclair was very good.
The baguettes are fresh and my favorite is sourdough.
I just wish there is a cheese store next door.

Just your local french bakery, nothing fancy with all the yummy pastries I can think of. There were tons of sweet and savory croissants, quiche, brioche, cookies and cakes. Wish I can have one of everything but since I couldn’t it just means more visits back :) I was raised with a donut shop so I love bakeries that I can stop by and pick up something for breakfast. Not healthy but fast and filling.
I picked up a fruit tart and a few macarons after the place I went for lunch didnt have much options. Fresh fruits, not to sweet. And macarons were light and delicate.

Great bakery that proudly bakes the traditional French way, using fats over oils i.e. butter over vegetable oil, it’s things like that, that make this places bread stand out.

Considering this is basically in the same place as Ghinnis it is a world a part in service. I went in a couple of days ago and bought a Cinnamon bun pull apart which I needed like a hippo tied to my leg. I went in for a loaf of bread, the Artisan whole wheat loaf, which I did not need either (more of a want). The woman at the counter was cheerful and super helpful, which is sorely missing on the other side which is Ghinnis. The selection is small but the baked good are super.

Okay, this rating is just below 4 stars, but not quite there yet.
So I have been here twice in the last week.
First time, I was going to Safeway to pick up a dessert for dinner with some friends, but I saw their open light still on so I went in. I picked up an éclair, a fruit tart, and a raspberry almond tart. For those it cost me about $ 10. Yes, a little pricey. But my friends and I shared them all and they were pretty good. Nothing that was knocking my socks off, but good solid pastries.
The second time was after breakfast next door. We wandered over to see what they had. I was there with a chocolate addict and once he saw the chocolate temptation (I think that was the name) cake, I knew I was in trouble. So we ordered a slice to go for later. $ 3.50 for the slice. I say this is a good price for this particular item because it was so rich that two of us barely finished it. But it was utterly decadent. There were layers of chocolate cake and ganache as well as chocolate frosting.
Overall they seemed to have a good selection of breads, pastries, cookies, pies, and cakes. I was helped very efficiently every time and enjoyed the treats I got. So, hopefully, others will have the same experience. And since its close to home, I will probably be back.

I’m afraid the place ain’t what it used to be. Tried to order a cake here Xmas 2010 and was told they couldn’t do cakes, since their pastry chef left. So decided to try again for a party in 11/​11, hoping they had their act together and I could support what was once a cool little local business.
Me: «What kinds of cakes do you make?»
They, not busy, as I was the only customer in the store: «Look in the case.»
Me: «Well, they’re not labeled. Do you have a list of kinds of cake you make so I can order one?»
They: «No, not really. Well, let’s see, there are some in the book here, but I don’t know if we make them all…»
Me: «OK, I’d like a white or yellow or chocolate cake decorated with off-​white frosting flowers»
They: «All we make is chocolate ganache or cream cheese frosting. We don’t do cakes with flowers or regular frosting. People don’t eat that any more. Give me your number and I’ll see what the pastry chef can do. Can you come back in the morning? No? Well then we’ll call you.»
Me, against my butter judgement: «OK. Let me know what you find out.»
Never got a call, and ordered from another bakery. The day of my party they called to ask if I was going to come in and pick up the cake I had supposedly ordered! Weird indeed.
Also bought a couple eclairs and brownies while I was there that were less than inspiring — dry, pretty flavorless, nothing I’d go back for.
Village Bakehouse, on the other hand, was the opposite experience. See that review as proof that I’m really not just a crank who writes lousy reviews!
