Sooter’s Auto Service

Sooter’s is a great auto shop. Last Sunday my car kept stalling while I was driving, but would start up again after trying for 1 – 2 mins. Other than that, she ran fine with no funny noises. I decided to take her to Sooter’s after a quick Unilocal search and I don’t regret it. They provide excellent customer service. They told me I needed the entire distributor replaced (I was hoping and praying it would only be the cap & rotor, which would be less than $ 50 in parts). My only regret is not picking up a distributor at Autozone or O’Reilly for $ 173, since their mark up on the part was 70%. I got my car back today and so far, no issues. Their charge for labor is on the high end, but fair. This is a popular shop for a reason and great shop to have your repairs done if you can afford it. However, I’m living off loans so I might look around for a another shop in Tucson that charges at a cheaper rate.

This was the first time I’ve went to them with a fuel pump issue in my pick up. Even though this was a big job they got my out in a couple of hours and I was able to see the old parts and what was being done. They were very fair and honest. I would not hesitate to take any vehicle I own back to them.

They are efficient in time, effective in diagnosing and repairing, and reasonably affordable. Now that I found them, This is the only shop I will take my cars to!

Had a P300 random multiple cylinder misfire and various throttle body sensor codes. The tech determined it was a bad coil on #5. They also updated the computer. This fixed all my issues and it runs great now.

I tried Sooters after reading reviews here on Unilocal and on other sites. I had to wait a week for an appointment but it was worth it. Another shop wanted to charge me $ 1700 for an oil pressure issue and Sooters handled it, and other items, for $ 770. But price is only one side of the story. Sooters technicians and staff are completely on point on the mechanics of the vehicle, great communication and customer service. I’m sold on them and will bring my Suburban only there

THE BEST AUTO REPAIR PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO: I travel all over the country (60,000 miles in the past 20 months) and I have lived in over a dozen cities. I have never been so well taken care of at an auto repair shop. Sooter’s is world-​class. Kim the manager and third generation owner runs a great business that provides excellent customer service. Kyle and the mechanics are competent auto repair professionals who take the time to fully explain what needs to be done, what it will cost and what they will do. They answer all your questions patiently and clearly. Their charges are very reasonable and fully disclosed ahead of time. I don’t live here in Tucson full time, but I wish I did, just so Sooter’s would do all the work on my cars.

They’re just the best around. Trustworthy. I took my car to them after having a worrisome experience with someone else. Car was making a peculiar sound in the vicinity of the part that had been installed. They thought the installed part was defective, and offered to do the work, and call the manufacturer to get the warranty honored. However, when I returned for my appointment (they are sometimes busy and it can take time to get the car in), I wasn’t hearing the noise any more. They checked it themselves, sure enough, no noise. They suggested they not replace the part. Two visits, they didn’t charge for either. In past years, they actually had to do some work, and that work was first-​rate as well.

Yet another 5 star for Kim and her crew… this time they changed out the fuel pump on my trusty 2001 Chev Truck. Came in under the estimate and the truck starts like a champ… good for its next 100K miles.
As I’ve said in previous reviews… I can do two things on these computer controlled vehicles … Check the tire pressure and take it in to Sooters.

This is my first Unilocal review as I feel so strongly about Scooters. My engine light was on and stopped by. They looked and the car, explained the issue, and didn’t charge me, all within less than 10 minutes! I am so grateful for their honesty as I tend to be very leery of mechanics offering false diagnoses. I will definitely go back again should I have car troubles in the future.

We have been going to Sooter’s for 25 years and have never had a problem. Quite the opposite. They are smart, reliable, honest and really great folks. I would highly recommend them and Kim isn’t the secretary, she’s the owner.

We had an unpleasant experience with Sooters, because they tried to charge us more than the quoted price. We took our car in to check for low fuel mileage and to have an inspection because we were planning on a long trip. We were quoted $ 75 for the fuel check and $ 70 for the inspection. They called us after the inspection saying they recommended two cv boot replacements and front brakes for a total of $ 610 additional. I asked what the charge would be for the CV boots only, and was told $ 240. After we discussed this, I called back to authorize the cv boot replacement, spoke to the same person but he said he had added wrong and the charge would be $ 340. I asked if the $ 340 would be in addition to the $ 75 and $ 70. He told me we would not be charged the $ 70 inspection, and that the total cost would be $ 416. I reiterated that I needed a total cost to make a decision on whether to get the repair, and was told again $ 416. I was already not thrilled to pay $ 416 when I expected the cost to be $ 385 ($ 75 + $ 70 + $ 240), but I thought I would give them a pass since they were waiving the $ 70 inspection fee. When we arrived, we were told the cost would be about $ 475, and that the person I spoke with had made a mistake in saying the $ 70 fee would be waived. After some lengthy conversation they agreed to charge us the lower amount, provided we never returned to their shop.
This is not how an auto repair shop should do business. Here they made not one, but two errors in the prices quoted. A customer-​friendly business would acknowledge their mistake and charge the quoted price, and wouldn’t display an attitude when a customer asked to be charged the price to which they agreed. If you do use this establishment I recommend you get any prices in writing.

I have never felt the need to write a Unilocal review until now. I just had the best experience ever at Sooters! My daughter is a freshman at UofA and I just drove her car here from California to bring her home for summer. On my way to Tucson the back break light died. Sooters replaced it for me within minutes and didn’t charge me. Now, I’m not saying their services are free. They deserve payment, for sure! But now we can drive back today worry free. I’m so used to dealing with shady car places that overcharge you and make you wait unnecessarily. This experience was so refreshing and MUCH appreciated! When she comes back to school next year with her car I will be sure to send her to Sooters for all her car needs. Thanks for taking such good care of us, Kyle.

Staff was more than helpful and honest about my car. Although I ended up trading my car in, they diagnosed my vehicle and were more than friendly to help me get my beat up car off their lot and on my way. Will be headed back there to do service next time.

I have been going to Scooter’s for roughly 6 months, it is a family owned business and the staff there are amazingly honest and trustworthy people. Some of the mechanics like Paul, Alex, and Kyle are great mechanics who know what they’re doing, and do a phenomenal job every time.
I have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee that I take in, and this is the only place in Tucson that I trust to take care of my car. What I love most about Scooter’s is when they are done with any said repair, they will then take you to your car and show you what they did, how they did it and so on. They will even show you the parts they took out, and tell you why it needed to be replaced/​serviced. They don’t charge you for unnecessary things, and usually don’t charge you for a simple inspection, they really do a good job, and I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Third time I have been here, and I can’t stop recommending this place. After visiting another shop who tried to tell me more things were bad than they really were, and up-​charge me on unnecessary repairs, I went to Sooters for a second opinion because of the great reviews here on Unilocal.The people who work here are very honest, and gave me a quote on just what needed to be fixed, without trying to swindle me with sales. They did exactly what they said and got the job done, now my ride is smooth again. Don’t come here if you want dirt cheap labor work, but do come here if you want trustworthy car mechanics, and a job done right the first time.

I was just passing through Tucson traveling in an old Toyota camper when my engine started running rough. I called them early in the morning and they saw me after lunch. Paul, the mechanic and Kim, the owner went out of their way to diagnose and fix my problem. A clogged fuel filter. I loved the way Paul actually took my rig for a test ride before and after. Did just rely on some computer! Very courteous and competent. And they actually listened to me, a 70 year old woman, like I had some knowledge in this arena. Which I actually do having owned 3 such RVs in the last 10 years.

I have been to Sooters 2 times now. Most honest trustworthy auto repair shop in Tucson.

I’ve been taking my ’98 Jeep Cherokee to Sooter’s for about a year now and couldn’t be more pleased with the work they’ve done and the prices they charge.
I’ve twice asked them for a front-​to-​back inspection and each time received really well thought-​out advice that made sense for my budget. Although repair prices aren’t cheap here (would they be cheap anywhere?), I have no problem paying for two reasons: 1) The mechanics have always explained exactly what needs to be done and why, and 2) They stick by their work; I had one particular problem resurface just a few weeks after repair – took the car back to Sooter’s and they re-​did the work without charge.
Not only do these guys work efficiently and expertly, but they’ve even done FREE work for me. I had my car towed to Sooter’s recently because it wouldn’t start. Apparently there was a problem with the car’s computer which they were able to resolve in just a few minutes. They also performed a series of diagnostics trying to identify the cause of the problem. Finding nothing, they called me the next day to pick up the car. Remarkably, they didn’t charge one thin dime even though they corrected the car’s issue and spent time trying to diagnose the problem.
Excellent service, great work, and fair pricing. I won’t take my car anywhere else.

Just took my car in to Sooter’s for the first time after using another very efficient, but HIGHLY expensive shop.
Kim is very friendly, affable and above all, knowledgeable. I had a somewhat obscure problem with my mode actuator doors and I was calling around to various shops and Sooter’s was the only one who talked to me in-​depth about the problem over the phone (the rest were of the «bring it on in!» sort quoting me twice as much as Sooter’s estimate). I left my car at Sooter’s for an oil change and A/​C service. In the end Kim told me that I didn’t need to get the work done on the mode actuator doors, it was optional. And expensive.
That’s what I like, someone who is honest and could have charged me for something I didn’t need, but instead thought about saving me money. LOVE Sooter’s and Kim. I highly recommend them!

Solid, skilled and most importantly, honest, mechanics. They are not the least expensive shop in town but they are not the most expensive shop in town, either. If you don’t need work done, they will tell you.
They stand behind their work and explain what they have done.

About three months ago, I bought a car from a very dishonest individual named Armen Sarrafian. I took it it to Sooters for a pre-​purchase inspection before my purchase and they didn’t find any major problems.
The very next day, the car died on Oracle in the middle of the day in 100 degree + weather. I was able to get it re-​started, but it overheated and blew a hose. I thought it was a total loss at this point, with a blown motor. Why is this story relevant?
The following Monday, I went into Sooters and explained to them what happened. Shortly thereafter, Kim Sooter contacted me personally. They towed my vehicle free of charge and diagnosed the problem, again without charge. They told me then that a compression check is not part of their pre-​purchase protocol and that the car had a blown head gasket at the time of purchase.
This was a very stressful time for me, but also for the mechanics and the owner Kim. She again called me later in the week, to express her concern and also to offer a discounted rate for replacement of the head gasket. I opted to pass on that because I couldn’t afford it at the time. Instead of a complete overhaul, I took up Kim on her offer to ‘seal’ the block, which was done for free. Since then, my car has been running ok and I have been able to get some utility out of it.
I was treated like a human being throughout the entire process. Pretty rare in the mechanic business it seems to me. I’ll be going back to Sooters to service my car.
