I tried this place for lunch one day after hearing advertisements on the radio. Based on where it is located(old Famous Sam’s location) I assumed it was a bar or sports bar. It definitely is a sports bar but should be considered a good spot to drop in for lunch also. I ordered hot wings and a side salad, this is my go to when I first visit place that I think may have good wings. The side salad was pretty generic as would be expected. The wings were pretty small and the overall portion seemed less than I would prefer(but I eat a lot). The wings were cooked right, this is such a big deal to me. When I get wings that are undercooked, it really irritates me but this place gets it right. The flavor of the wings was good, the sauce was definitely something they created specifically and not your run of the mill Buffalo flavor. I think if I were to go back again I would order something different. The service was solid and the place was clean. It looks like they have some separate room set up for smokers which is interesting, so good for them. I don’t get why people smoke personally but whatever. If I lived near this place I would try it in the evening or on the weekend when I could have a few beers and watch some games. I think the place could use a few more televisions but it wasn’t like they had too few of them. If you work in the First/Ft. Lowell vicinity then try this place out for lunch, it’s a good option and worth a second visit from me.

Good wings had parm garlic, special on Wednesday. Good beer prices especially even the cheapest I’ve found for happy hour. Lots of tvs and seating. Good service and food. I have yet for the staff to act inappropriately or unprofessionally like at other places which makes this the complete package.

There are 17 of us in Tucson for a softball tourney. Throwbacks had high reviews so we gave it a try. I called ahead and they were happy to save tables for our group. Not much to look at on the outside but quaint sports bar on the inside. Typical bar food but very good! Great rings, burgers, sandwiches. A whole bunch of TVs so got to watch all our college football championships. Hats off to Shaun our waiter. He did an excellent job especially with a large group. Good food, good service. Would definitely come back when in town.

Yummy grub EVERYTIME, can’t go wrong with any menu item but my favorite is the chicken tenders and onion rings, by far the best bar food in town not to mention the pleasant atmosphere with all the TV S one could want visible from any seat in the house! Thank you throwbacks, will be back again soon!

Great food. Small menu but each item is different vice those joints that have 30 types of burgers. This one has mustard! Yeah right, not here. Plus one of the best places for service. Seems a little ghetto from the outside but they have 17 TVs in the main area and even more in the smoking lounge. Fast, good service and great food with monster beers.

I am new to the area and looking for a neighborhood bar, either to just hang out or to go watch sporting events out. Anything that is less than a $ 10 Über ride is what I was looking for. As soon as I got to the bar I was immediately greeted and made me feel like I had been there a dozen times. The wait staff was extremely attentive, specifically the young lady(I wish I remembered her name). It was last Thursday night during football and she was working the bar area). As far as the food goes the mushrooms and fries were on point. It really tasted like they use a homemade batter for the fried mushrooms. The fries were made from fresh potatoes and tasted like they cut the potatoes in the back, fried them, and then put them on my plate — SOGOOD. Last but not least, the wings weren’t my favorite. It tasted like they double fried them with the sauce on them. they weren’t terrible but just not my favorite. To put this all into perspective, I went there during happy hour and all my food(appetizers) was on happy hour, I think I spent $ 10 on 15 wings, fries, and mushrooms. In terms of the neighborhood bar, I will definitely be back, I want that neighborhood feel, and Throwbacks definitely has the potential!

Throwbacks is a great neighborhood sports bar. The servers(Jazz and Ryan get a shout-out) are super friendly, the drinks are good and cheap, and the food is pretty good too. It took me awhile to figure out what I liked in terms of the food — the caeser salad(plus chicken($ 2) and as a wrap($ 1)) is what I have settled on as the optimal food item. I usually go on Tuesdays for poker night, which is also ladies poker night — $ 1 well drinks and $ 1 domestic beer pints. It’s a winner all around.

Decided to write a review while I’ve been waiting for my lunch for the last hour. This after waiting 15 minutes to go up to the bar to get a drink after I ordered it from the waiter. We were told as soon as we sat down that they’re understaffed today. I can understand that(kind of, I mean, it ISNFL Sunday at a sports bar!) so knowing that we decided to be patient. I think waiting an hour for our food has been patient enough. The waiter just told me that the problem is that they don’t do ANY prep for the lunch hour. I can’t believe it’s this bad at a sports bar on NFL Sunday. This is a poorly managed place. This is the first and last time we come here. I’d tell you how the food is, but I’m still waiting for it. I can at least say the menu was interesting or this would have only been one star.

Stopped in here before the Arizona Football home opener yesterday. The place was not very busy, but I’m guessing that had a lot to do with the crazy rainstorm that was happening outside at that time. Bartender and staff were friendly, and the place was clean. Lots of tv’s and pool tables/darts in the back area. Decent happy hour specials. I had The Closer, which is a grilled(or breaded) chicken sandwich with your choice of wing sauce. Hot sauce was tasty and not too overwhelming. Bread was soft and fries were good. I would get the sandwich again, and would visit this place again in the future.

Great atmosphere and even better food! The pastrami sandwich was probably the best I’ve ever had! So much flavor, but not overwhelming at all. My boyfriend got the double bacon cheeseburger and he said it was cooked perfectly. Definitely going to go again!

For this neighborhood, Throwbacks is almost too good. I say that with great love and admiration for the Campus Farm and Amphi area. But I mean, come on, just driving down 1st or Prince, you wouldn’t think to find a place with as quality of food as you’d find here at Throwbacks. It’s really a diamond in the rough. Tucson is full of these. Let’s stay with the food first. I’ve never thought any dish I’ve been served here over the course of about a year was anything less than 4 star quality. The Buffalo Tender Sandwich is probably my favorite chicken sandwich in Tucson. The burgers are all very good(with the Bleu Cheese Burger in particular a stand out. In short, you can’t go wrong. Now service here is what I really like. Amanda the bartender is great. She’s quick with a joke and a light up your smoke. And she always has something new behind the bar she’s thought up. And if she isn’t there, there are TVs everywhere with Pac12 and everything else. The crowd is very much of the neighborhood, so of course every once in a while there is a piss poor drunk making off colour jokes about Obama and the IRS. That’s part of the charm. It’s why I go back. That and I don’t get Fox, so it’s good to hear an educated opinion from the other side. In short, throw a few back at Throwbacks

I had heard a lot of good things about this bar from my coworkers, so I was eager to check it out when I was invited to watch UA play UCLA last night. Look, I understand that the place was packed full of people. I’m not expecting to get quick, prompt service. However, our server disappeared for 40 minutes. That’s not even an exaggeration. Most of the people in my party gave up on her and ended up going to the bar to get drinks. When she finally appeared I ordered an IPA, and it took her 25 minutes to get it to me. By far the worse sports bar experience I’ve ever had. I was planning on getting a decent buzz on watching the game, and I could only get two beers out of the experience, and the last came with 2 minutes left in the game.

Try the fried pickles. They’re to die for. Probably literally, since you’ve got deep fried things wrapped in meat then dipped in ranch — but what a delicious way to die, right? Such a big improvement over the old Famous Sams… I wonder if the neighborhood can support such a «clean» establishment. I lived there a long time, and the dirty predecessor seemed pretty on par with the clientele. Service was good and fast, beer was frosty and cold with good selections and the music wasn’t too loud. We went for lunch, but I think I’d like to try a happy hour here and see the place in it’s real element.

This place has good bar food, LOTS of TVs, and they really try to show every game that people are there to watch. They have tons of beers and liquors, not sure about their wine selection, but hey– it’s a sports bar anyway. Service is spotty– sometimes it is good, sometimes it is way slow(even if it’s not that busy). They have a huge billiard room, and a really nice«smoking lounge» that is covered and screened in with TVs so you don’t miss any of the game. I would definitely recommend this place as a solid sports bar.

My boyfriend and I have been in here before it was Throwbacks, when it was Famous Sams and it was kind of gross and sticky. The change is amazing though! It was really kind of nice for a bar setting and the people behind the bar were really nice! The service is fast and the food was really tasty and on special for happy hour! We had nachos and wings and they were both really good! There is a smoking room too for those who want to smoke and still be inside the bar.
