LA Burrito with fries in it. Hadn’t had one in ages and found it on the menu here. ITWASSOLID! Totally awesome. Super friendly people working inside and good prices. «I’ll be back» — Arnold.

Guisado de Puerco, was slap your mama good! Very flavorful. Boyfriend got the 7 Mares which was all sorts of slow heat seafood stew surprise. My only negative, would be a little too much chili powder in the rice, but I was so full from everything else, I didn’t need to eat it. Make sure and try the mango habenero with pineapple salsa!

We stopped in while driving through Tulsa and now I want to go back to Tulsa just for another meal at this restaurant. The Molcajete is OUTSTANDING! It is several proteins cooked in a very delicious sauce and served in a stone bowl with tortillas on the side. One of the best meals I have every had. I also loved the little condiments bar. The women helping at the front were super friendly. Go here!

Huge variety to choose from on the menu. It’s a little overwhelming at first when you’re trying to order because you order at the counter and can feel a little rushed before sitting down. The food was great though! My favorite part was the salsa bar. You are able to try many different varieties as much as you would like.

I ate lunch here a few weeks ago. I had the carne asada and it was good. I like the salsa bar as well. I just ate dinner there tonight and was totally blown away. I had the big lava bowl filled with steak, shrimp, chorizo, chicken and other stuff. I was stuffed as I couldn’t believe how great it was. Definitely recommend!

Good food for cheap … crazy big menus with great salsa selection. The falling apart chairs and the tissue paper flowers give this place an awesome ambience

Tulsa has a WHOLELOTTA Mexican restaurants. So, what makes this one special? Where do I begin? First, the menu will definitely overwhelm you because they do everything and they do it all well. The hot sauces/salsas, especially the green salsa with heat, are so dang good. I love that they have an area with garnishes to add a little extra something to their food. While accommodating the usual faire, this is authentic Mexican food with an authentic, hole in the wall experience. You can get the usual tex mex items and they will be divine. But, trust me, get the Molcajete, a sizzling stone mortar brimming with marinated meat and cheese, served with tortillas and all the fixings. This, people, is the stuff dreams are made of. They also allegedly have a heavenly breakfast menu, which I’ve never tried but have heard rave reviews. So. In other words. Any meal, any time, Calaveras is your place.

Best authentic Mexican food in Tulsa! They have an amazing food selection. Everything from the classic burritos and street tacos to menudo and pozale verde! Their green salsa on the salsa bar is amazing and has a great kick to it. My husband and I put it on everything! For the price and range of items you can’t beat Calaveras! Wish they would open a food truck!

Went around 6:00 pm for a nice dinner with my daughter and my boyfriend on Sunday evening. We live down the street and were all exited about the reviews we read. We took our time looking the menu over since it was our first visit, and met a few regular customers who help guide us on their favorite items. We were indecisive so decided to order a little bit of everything. We started off with a run at the salsa bar and a small guac and queso. The mango habenaro was a perfect blend of sweet and spicy becoming my instant favorite. He loved the guacamole while my kid fell in love with the white queso. I usually don’t line white queso but this one didn’t add a smoky flavor like some, do i are it up. My daughter ordered the mojara frita because it is her favorite dish at Don Francisco Tacos… her favorite mexican place in town. The one here was twice the size and very tender but the seasoning was too light. She enjoyed it very much but did say it needed more spice. My boyfriend ordered the pozolle soup, which was an enormous portion and incredibly delicious, as well as pork chile verde. The chile verde was a big hit with him. Large pork chunks that were tender and the homemade tasting tortillas worked perfectly. I was the only one who didn’t fall in love with my entrée. I got the fish ceviche. It was very fresh but it was a bit overdressed with the avocado slices and the cubed tomatoes. Too much acidity with the lime. But fortunately, we were completely glutinous in ordering and had also ordered a whole smoked chicken. The chicken was probably my favorite of all the dishes. It was seasoned perfectly, completely most, and absolutely delicious. We were however disappointed in the dessert selections. They looked pre made and old. We admittably over-indulged but it was our first family dinner out in months. We spent $ 74 and brought 4 togo boxes and a togo soup bowl. It seems expensive until i look in the fridge and see all the leftovers. We can’t wait to go back and try the enchilladas and street tacos!

New favorite Mexican restaurant in Tulsa! Definitely five stars, would hands down give it more if I could. Everything was incredible and delicious. I have quite a few favorite Mexican places in town that are near and dear to my heart and Calaveras just earned a top spot on the list. The location is a little off the beaten path but I think that just adds to the charm. The inside is bright with big windows and has colorful papel picado banners hanging from the ceiling. Calaveras has an extensive menu filled with authentic Mexican dishes and more Tex Mex type favorites. I ordered the beef enchilada dinner with queso — fabulous and flavorful! Other people at our table ordered the shrimp tacos, ceviches, and the El Brasero Ranchero which was some sort of fire grilled meat platter that was delivered to the table still on the grill! It had beef, chicken, peppers, potatoes, etc — everything with a very unique grilled flavor. It was huge so you can definitely split this goodness with someone else. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you very quickly. They give you chips and little plastic cups for the salsa bar which has several different types of salsa. Our favorite was the fire roasted red salsa. We also ordered the guacamole and queso. The guacamole had a great kick to it and the creamy white queso was some of the best I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to return and I’m sure we will be regulars.

This is where the serious mexican food fans go! Everything was so authentic and the flavors were amazing! You order up front and they let you know when it’s ready. We started out with the Salsa Bar-so many flavorful salsas. We ordered chips with queso and guacamole-their guacamole had great spices in it. It was addicting! My friend and I split the chicken and steak fajitas-the flavor was great! It came with more guacamole, cheese, beans etc. Our other friend got the Wet Burrito-it was huge! She loved it but had to take 2⁄3 of it home! Then we had a slice of carrot cake to celebrate my friend’s birthday. It had been in the refrigerator at the front — it was more delicious than we anticipated. Definitely will be taking more people here. I think it is my new favorite Mexican restaurant.

Get here early! Incredible authentic food! I will be back! I had the pork verde. Meat was tender and flavorful. They have a wonderful salsa bar too. The place fills up fast at lunch so get there early! I can’t wait to go back and try more off the menu

The food here is amazing and the menu so extensive you could go every day for weeks and always try something different. I’ve tried the California Seafood Burrito the Molicaites Jalisco and the Lenguas Tacos. My 19 year old nephew had the Wet Burrito and the Carne Quesadilla. My 12 year old nephew has only ever tried the Cheese Burger. Everything we’ve tried has been delicious. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is, when you’re the only one paying, it can get pricey.

First time to be here after dark, there are people around and it felt safe. The carnitas was a mountain of food and nicely cooked, not greasy, like pork can be. Beans and rice were flavorful and went well with the carnitas. Good guacamole. The beer was expensive, Dos Equis was $ 3.95. The wet burrito and street tacos have been my favorite so far, highly recommend both. I forgot to say on the initial review, it is Mexican food, not Tex-Mex.

One of my new favorite Tulsa Mexican restaurants! It’s a little out of the way, so unfortunately I probably won’t be able to come very often(when I’m in town), but I’d say it’s definitely worth the trip at least once, and I’ll definitely come if I’m in the area. It’s a super cute and authentic place. I absolutely adore the papel picado that just showers from the ceiling, and the people were so friendly and happy. You order at the counter and there’s an unlimited salsa bar from which you can eat to your heart’s desire. I ordered the steak street tacos, which is an unusual choice for me seeing as I typically go for chicken or seafood/vegetarian options. But I saw a picture of the steak tacos on the menu and thought it looked delicious, so I tried it — best decision ever! They were so good and fresh, an authentic taste to match the place’s authentic feel. My only complaint is that they were a little dry, but I added a little white queso(which we had ordered a dish of as an appetizer) and then they were perfection. The white queso, btw, is delicious. It’s a little different tasting — I can’t put my finger on what it is exactly but it tasted more like real white cheese than the fake stuff, 10⁄10 would order again. For Tulsa especially, this place is unusually authentic and delicious. It’s very unique and definitely worth a visit!

I feel really bad about this review. The pictures offered here are beautiful. And the reviews are quite true about staff, ordering, salsa bar, etc. I’d been here a couple times before for street tacos(though I can never which ones are best) with no complaints. It’s quaint to have place like this with relatively different(& huge!) take on Mexican food in an up & coming neighborhood. Love that! Hubby had never been there & he loves Mexican food. Well, who doesn’t? So, August 2nd we popped in for lunch. Not too busy, maybe 3 – 4 in line ahead of us. We grabbed one of the booths near the front, ordered, filled our drink cups & grabbed goodies from the salsa bar. So authentic! Love that they have radishes. All their salsas are good. I’m always a sucker for verde, love the fire roasted too. The«chip» salsa, as they call it, is quite good too. We settled in and, maybe, had eaten 3 chips before our food came. Never experienced that before and it nose-dived from there. Hubby had ordered the chicken fajitas, his fav’, & I the puffy tacos. I’ve had the puffy tacos at Elote Café downtown &LOVED them.(Bear with me that I use an iPad. There are things you just can’t do with one, like adding photos or updates. I can back up our experience with photos which I will try to add later on a computer.) The puffy tacos were merely fried-burned **greasy** piles of dough. There was no seasoning, & I mean not even salt, on the small amounts of dried meat. Chicken was hard. Beans were cold. I added onions from the salsa bar in order to take a couple bites. I stole hubby’s condiments to take a couple more bites of the tacos. The pork(I’d ordered 3 meats) was the moistest. And hidden in this mess were beautiful, generous slices of avocado. The menu states the puffies come with Jack cheese. Really? You’d seriously need a magnifying glass to find any. His tortillas were the small ones like street tacos, which taste good, but don’t hold much for a fajita. His meat was as dry as mine. The condiment portion was small, smaller than usual I’d say. «I’m not rushing back,» he said. I’d feel even worse but the first time I was there, there was a really young couple(probably a date) at the same front booth where we sat, getting ready to leave behind their virtually untouched molcajete. My feelings & observations are that guys love this place to gather because it’s **extremely** casual, food is as fast as it gets & they have beer. I love the location, the mix of patrons. I want a plate of food like other reviews show. It’s so far been hit or miss for me on every visit. I know I’ll give it one more try. August 2nd, I hope, was a fluke. But it was a nightmarish fluke.

Went today for lunch and had a delicious California Quesidilla. It was filled with white cheese, artichokes, spinach, and steak. Very good. My son had two crispy tacos. The shells were hand made and looked great. You order at the counter and then they bring your food to the table. Nice staff.

Definitely digging this new treasure! I was/am not only stoked to have a NEW place in this part of town, but even better it is YUM. You know what is funny is I am beginning to feel a little sorry for other parts of Tulsa. We’ve got so many great Mexican restaurants/stands around this part of town now, we’re spoiled for sure! I remember having to driving out of my way for some delicious authentic Mexican yummies! I came into Calavera’s with slightly high expectations. I tried not to but it happened. The pozole verde was fantastic! It hit the spot perfectly and I was so glad to catch it on the weekend. I also got some chicken flautas which I couldn’t finish but were made perfectly to my tastes. Their refried beans are full of flavor and you’ve got a TON of sauces to choose from. My favorite was probably the fire roasted as well as the verde salsa. Can’t go wrong with whichever ones you choose. I do however wish they left the chips out by the«buffet» so that you could put them in the bowl yourself. You have to ask at the front and if you forget then you may have to sit in line again if there is one… Calavera’s has an array of seating both booths and chairs all near windows with plenty of natural light coming in. Their menu is extensive and could be overwhelming. But they do have you take your menu, sit and decide and then go up to the counter to order. Only thing that would make this place better is if they took your order from your table, but that’s okay. Get ANYTHING here, accompany it with some Horchata and you’ll be in Mexi-Heaven! Salud!
